All the papers are entreating that this is a Labor budget but I don't see that it is. Seems more to me like it is a coordinated effort to just claim it is a "Labor budget" so that Labor would look awfully obstinate if they block it in the senate. What's Labor about it?

It's still a cruel and incompetent budget in that it drug tests social security recipients, cuts funding to the already-crippled CSIRO and makes the housing affordability crisis worse.

AFR posted:

[Scott Morrison] could have brought a budget which removed red tape and regulation, and encouraged real private sector growth. Instead, this budget is about preserving totems like Medicare and locking in another $18bn in spending over a decade on an unreformed school system that does not produce results. It will entrench another Labor spending monument in the form of the National Disability Income Scheme that explodes in cost from $3bn to $20bn a year in five years’ time.

Sure it starts in small rural areas, but once Serco have shown that they can run the Birdsville police station successfully it would be unfair not to lend them tender for the Sydney contract.

why would you deny the metropolitan areas the chance for better quality of service?

The earlier you identify and target kids the better outcomes you get. And yes schools do have kids who show up who are functioning at a 2 year old level (not speaking sentences, not toilet trained) so its good to be able to identify and get kids put into a specialised course with specialised teachers.

If it's used this way I can't see a problem. When it's used just to put a number on a webpage it's a bullshit waste of time and money.

Pauline Hanson is just as useful now as she was 20 years ago. Two good things and one political. She helps identify the idiots who support her poo poo so you can inform your opinion of them. She makes the rest of the nation talk about some horrible poo poo, to rebut her arguments, that they wouldn't otherwise bring up. Once she has conglomerated a huge pile of poo poo around herself, again, the status quo in parliament can chuck her in jail again and point and say, look at us, we're not like that right?
