My takeaway from the debate is that to anyone who watched it, Corbyn came off better and much more relaxed/sincere. To anyone who reads the press write-ups it was a draw, with Corbyn performing better than expected.

I'm not sure if will translate to any movement in the polls since I doubt how many people watched it directly, but if Labour can continue this performance right through the other planned TV appearances it might be good for another couple of percentage points. That's the hope anyway.

I spent a morning in the gym listening to idiots complaining that he was just giving money away to scroungers and hated Britain. May, in comparison, was 'STRONG AND STABLE' and oh so Thatcheresque :byodood: . They know this. Not because they watched the interviews, of course, but because they read the Daily Mail highlights.

He's been making GBS threads up this thread practically every day for years, the I/P thread isn't expected to just put up with MIGF or TIC so I don't know why the UKMT has to just put up with our toxic constant poster.

On the rare days he gets probed or takes a break the thread actually discusses politics but I don't see why the health of the thread has to take a backseat to the needs of a boring troll.

This. I'll eat a probation but it could be that the reason everyone complains about Pissflaps is because he is incredibly annoying and constantly derails every conversation with pointless pedantry. When he's on probation, this thread becomes readable.

I think undoubtedly Corbyn came off better last night, but May didn't do as badly as some reaction would suggest and I'm not sure how much impact these TV events have anyway.

The gap between what I'm reading in the press (Telegraph: Labour leader refuses to back drone strikes on terrorists plotting to bomb the UK. Guardian: Both sides claim victory. FT: May and Corbyn survive Paxman treatment. Times: May woos working class with line on Brexit.) compared with what I can actually watch is astounding.

May is clearly a terrible debater - and that's not always a problem for a PM. But it will be if she's the one we're sending in to Brussels.

They also know this because, unlike the last two general elections, this time Labour have really been getting out a strong economic message about how you get out of deficit by encouraging growth through investment, and just why the Tories' austerity hasn't actually worked.
...oh wait.

(I'm not saying they could ever get the Mail to publish a message like that but there are ways, over time, to get a message out there)

I have to say it was amazing to see JC up there on a massive general election TV event last night. I saw him at a few events before he ran for leader and even queued up for the loo in a Costa at a protest one time lol. Mind boggling if you think about it and the odds he should ever be there in the first place.
The dude, I reckon, spent at least the first year of his leadership going through hell and very very obviously never wanted to be leader. But he's always been much more into the campaigning (who knew) and it always really shows. The fact that such a humble, decent guy was up there on British TV last night fending off Paxman and all kinds of difficult attacks left right & centre, often with considerable grace and skill, genuinely made me proud.

If he can keep it up I really think we're in with a shot of serious humiliation for May - like, gains of only a very few seats or even basically the same result as now. I still think it's unlikely but at least it seems possible.

This was corbyn's most pro answer in the debate imo.

Took a "tough" question which attacked Labour's policies as well as Corbyn personally, and flipped it round in to a pretty cogent response putting it back on the guy and explaining the long term benefits of socialist policies for himself and his children. You could see him squirming in his seat with his world view being challenged.

All she has to do is squirm through these non-debates. I think pretty much all projections still show the conservatives gaining seats, and she will have a manifesto to implement so despite being terrible in public a win is unfortunately still a win.

Yeah he handled that really well, way better than the question deserved really. The temptation to just say 'you just cited my four most popular policies as reasons you can't vote for me, so in fact you were never going to vote for me anyway' must've been incredibly strong. But instead he explained the benefits of the policies clearly and calmly and came off looking knowledgeable and unflappable.

Corbyn's playing a blinder in this GE. If the papers would portray May as she really is we'd be on the road to winning this thing handily.

I agree, but the actual DNC platform was somewhat left of Blairite, and she should have been articulating those policy positions rather than desperately grasping for the nonexistent centrist vote
