Late to the discussion, but A.J. Liebling used to refer to fighters as "milling coves." Apparently "coves" just meant "boys," so "milling" referred to fighting. Last of all the Corinthians (masters of the fance & patrons of pugilists) would take the road in their fance traps and catch up with the others. The audiobook of A.J. Liebling's essays on boxing is quite entertaining.
