My friend at work owned a bunch of AMD stock expecting the new chip to make it skyrocket, maybe I should bring it up a bunch at work tomorrow :allears:

Do we know the same guy? A guy at my office has been jerking off to AMD for the past year and keeps swinging buy to chat with the dude in the cube next to me about how his AMD stock is gonna finally pay off. Also his watercooled rig. It's kind of to be expected out of desktop techs but also retarded when you work for a non profit with a really stupidly good 401k that he could increase his contribution to.

LuLaRoe is the worst. I have like 3 friends sucked into that one now and it's basically all really really crappy quality super stretchy clothes that barely last 2 washes because the company "softens" the fabric to the point where you can tear it with your fingers.

Also jamberry nail stickers. uggghhhh

I don't know anything about that poster's identity, so does that not cover everything?

"it" is never ok.

Generally if you don't know someone's gender they/them works well.

The presence of full stationary is the decider. Anyone in an office who has the stationary background is awful. They'll spend more time planning how the cubes are going to be decorated for columbus day than actually remembering that you have to fill out the onboarding form for new hires and offboarding for that person who's retiring.

We have alot of gluten free people and low carb people who are willing to pay a premium to continue having peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I'm typing this with a straight face.

I don't often physically react to a post, especially here in BWM but holy loving poo poo I frowned so hard my face hurts now.

edit: I hope whomever took the original screencap actually reported that.

The implication is not that we resent getting stuff, it's that our loving idiot relatives are putting themselves on financial life support by overextending themselves in order to out-pace one another and teaching our kids that stuff = love.

This is something I see from our relatives. My husband and I are very comfortable and we have politely asked our relatives not to buy us things because we know they are in a far more precarious position than we are. It never fails that my MIL buys me $100+ of clothes for christmas and a gift card or something for my birthday and honestly, I just don't need it. I've started returning items and buying socks/underwear/blankets for the homeless with store credit. It bothers me that I can't seem to convince them to just not buy things though.

When we're looking at christmas for nieces/nephews we specifically ask their parents what do they realistically need - Is the kid interested in lessons for guitar/piano/drums etc? Do they need new cleats for soccer practice? Useless clutter is dumb.

Does anyone here know a lot of people who do MLMs? I only know four people who do (my aunt who has been chronically unemployed, two people from high school, and weirdly enough my cousin who is a military wife but also earned a Masters in Economics from a pretty good school. But it's apparently a big problem in some circles.

I've never known anyone who's been big into it but my SIL is trying to sell some skin care stuff. My cousin has been trying to sell younique. A good friend of mine was into Lularoe and I even guilt bought a skirt :(. My sister did pampered chef for a while. Another good friend did itworks and managed to alienate most of her friends and then luckily realized it and quit. Another person tried to get me to go to a jamberry party - which by the way - is the laziest poo poo on earth because its like a loving skype party. lazy!

If it were just one of those people i'd barely notice it but put them together in my social circles and social media and it gets obnoxious.

She may have been bullied into buying one as some party she was forced to go to. I think women must have a much harder time avoiding those stupid Tupperware, Scentsy, etc parties due to social pressures. If one of my friends was throwing one I just wouldn't be able to make it and would eventually say "No, thanks," if they pushed it.

The social pressure from this poo poo is insane. All the upper management women at my old office invited me to one of their lularoe parties and I felt an incredible obligation because getting into management is a huge popularity contest and I was trying to raise my profile a bit. I went to the party and felt super awkward but it helped because it let me brush elbows with the uppers.

There was a guy at my office who had gone through bankruptcy and was continuing to make terrible choices and he was still considered an "advisor" at his church and would council young folks on what to do with their money.

He took out a payday loan for diapers. Not even joking. I listened to him to try fight with the loan provider over the phone and he walked out of our office to scream. We worked a pretty cushy job. Lit his money on fire for other poo poo.

Still can't believe he felt like he had the right to tell anyone else how they should live.

12 weeks is FMLA standard, at least in California. It is six weeks paid through the state if you worked 1080 hours the year before, and another six unpaid weeks. This is for men and women, bio and foster care kids.

FMLA isn't paid leave. It just guarantees you have a job when you get back and only applies to companies with 50+ people. CA sounds like it provides some additional benefits but the two aren't the same.

Is this now the personal anecdote thread?

I paid 6 figures for art school, got a job in IT and now 8 years later i'm super close to having it paid off.

That's my story. Clearly everyone should do what I did. Or not because gently caress having to pay 800 a month for loans right out of school.
