Even if I didn't, I'd rather some mild ennui or existential crisis than having to go through the bullet ant stinging ritual.

In more local news, a friend of mine just moved back to town and invited me to come visit her at sales job today because at the last minute, she couldn't make the party I threw last night. The store is a retail establishment selling various smaller tech companies' gadgets, and to my delight I found on the website that they sell Juicero machines! Unfortunately they weren't available at this location or I would've asked to see one. They may not even carry them here.

I did spend some time playing with an Oculus Rift and some bizarre commuter trike without paying anything without any pressure from her to buy. Given how much time she spent with me while visiting, I gather that the conversion rate from browsing customers to paying customers was low and that many people were on there for the novelty factor. But I have no data to back that up, and hopefully her job stays around for a while bad on the sales of non-Juicero products.

For some reason that reminds me of the Powerball meme last year that if they split the $1.3 billion jackpot across everyone in the US, we'd all get $4.33 million each and poverty would be solved... ignoring the fact that in reality we'd get 4 dollars and 33 cents each if you actually divided the numbers correctly. Then there's the problem of inflation if everyone really did get a lot of money all together (such as with some Universal Basic Income proposals).

Then there was the beautiful counter-meme of "The Force Awakens pulls in $1.7 billion at the box office. That means each of us spent $5.66 million seeing it".

A couple of guys I eat lunch with started talking about and eventually set up computers to mine Ethereum when the price was somewhat high, for some stupid reason. I held my tongue even though I've been following various crypto-making-fun-of threads here for the better part of 5 years. All until one of them jokingly said "HODL" the other day, which triggered me. I don't know if they're mining at all following the (temporary?) price crash and massive influx of other miners.

Now this week some other unrelated people have been posting in an employee bulletin board for "advice on trading cryptocurrencies" and formed a chat group so they can discuss it.

All is lost, I fear.

Admittedly this is bad and I will look for an article or study to back this up, but I distinctly remember in one of my tax courses at college the professor either having a study/article about how actually re-funding the IRS so they can actually function would be the fastest way to reduce the defecit, beyond any budget cuts or "tax reform".

I guess better that than under-withholding, where the family instead thinks they're screwing the government on the front end, but could get instead end up with them owing underpayment penalties come tax day.

About 100 miles in, I realized the engine seemed to be making a lot of noise to maintain speed, and then noticed the tachometer showed > 5k rpm.
