Fitzy Fitz posted:A coworker was bragging to me about how he'd just been in the Caribbean, how beautiful it was down there, etc. Then he mentioned that he was there to visit his daughter in vet school... Yup. Slightly better situation than med school in that you don't need to match afterward in order to use your very expensive degree (internships/residencies are not required for veterinarians unless you want to be a specialist). Still pretty BWM though--on average, debt loads are much higher coming out of the Caribbean (though this map shows that cost of attendance everywhere is incredibly high for a profession where starting salaries are about $65k), and there is definitely a stigma about the students being not as good to begin with, and the schools being less than amazing as well. Numbers for vet school in general: Average student debt is roughly $150K, $170K if you only look at those graduating with debt (ie exclude those fortunates who don't have any), and for the Caribbean, probably 1.5-2X that, but it's very difficult to get the Caribbean data other than scattered anecdotes about people screwed by their $400K debt loads.

Ashcans posted:Isn't a huge part of the Keurig market stuff like offices where single serves of stuff is useful? I'm assuming most of those places aren't going to want a beer machine. Yeah, my office has a Keurig and it's nice because on any given day, 0-3 people will want coffee, and they'll all want a different type.

OctaviusBeaver posted:https://www.reddit.com/r/personalfinance/comments/6ilujy/the_family_dog_surgery_or_alternatives/ The really BWM part is paying with CareCredit--the card has a 6 or 12 month interest-free period, but if you still have a balance at the end of that (and it sounds like this person is planning on that being the case) the interest applies to the original balance. IIRC, the interest rate is 26%.

Weatherman posted:You have wild emus in the US now? Or was this just a MAGA shitpost? Sometimes they escape emu farms. I used to go to a summer camp in northern CA in an area where emu and ostrich farming was popular (bet they just grow weed now) and I kid you not, there were a couple of feral emus that would show up periodically.

A patient of mine (a dog) suffered severe chemical burns when the owners spilled some essential oil on her. They were trying to dab it on a wart to burn it off. The resulting veterinary bills were much higher than any treatment I would have recommended for the wart, plus the poor dog's pain. Definitely BWM.

GoGoGadgetChris posted:Lmao "Doctor" Though it is a cheap option, vets mostly know how to remove testicles entirely, which isn't quite the procedure most men want.... What's not so cheap is replacing the testicles with silicone prostheses so your dog doesn't feel emasculated and get made fun of at the dog park. Caring about your dog's vanity, or placing excessive emotional weight on the state of your dog's genitals, is BWM.
