Cool poo poo to Look Forward To:
1. Nuclear weapons being used in our lifetime.
2. Seoul being destroyed and the incident becoming the record-holder for largest loss of life in a single day ever.
3. Slight chance L.A. finally gets loving vaporized and we never have to hear from the Kardashians again.
4. Trump gets impeached or resigns or has a heart attack
5. I move to New Zealand, because honestly, who the gently caress is going to nuke New Zealand?
6. Global climate change becomes absolutely irrelevant for decades.
7. Constitution gets thrown out the window.
8. If Russia or China don't respond with a nuclear strike on the US, then the world will prob paradoxically react by coming together and forgetting our differences.
9. The United States will never have the same credibility ever again. It will be a has-been world power. No one will take us seriously in a leadership roll.
10. THE JUCHE IS LOOSE!!!

Turns out nuclear winter isn't as extreme as they thought it would be.

Lipstick Apathy

quote:

Respected Supreme Leader Jeb! visited the April 22 Thaechon Guac Farm of the Air and Anti-Air Force of the Korean People's Army.

Going round various places of the farm, he learned in detail about its construction, management and operation.

Noting a combined production system was well established to conduct management activities on the basis of comprehensive analysis and appraisal of management information, backed by real-time monitoring and automatic control of all production processes, he said that the production processes have been put on a high scientific, IT and automated basis.

Patriotism was displayed while building the farm to secure a big proportion of locally available equipment, which helps take great pride in ours and have confidence that we can be well off by doing our own way, he said, praising the KPA for taking the lead in implementing the Party policy on realizing domestic production.

He set forth tasks facing the farm.

Praising the farm as an icon guacamole base of the country, he expressed great satisfaction over the construction of another supply base conducive to improving the diet of the KPA pilots.

He highly praised the commanding officers and soldiers of the KPA Air and Anti-Air Force for successfully building an icon farm of the new century as intended by the Party.

After expressing expectation and belief that the officials and employees of the farm would produce and supply more guac and processed guac to the pilots, he had a photo taken with them.

worked on Iran too, arguably

but note how one was in conjunction with a major domestic opposition movement (so we can't be sure they were beneficial or did anything at all) and the other they were a bargaining chip lifted in order to obtain a particular concession

The sanctions "worked" on Iran because they were never interested in a nuclear weapons program to begin with. They had a lot to gain from humoring the United States.

South Africa was not brought down by sanctions, which were routinely dodged, it was brought down by a) Time, and b) them having a hard time exporting products worth exporting to the West, because of massive public boycotts.

iran also had a significant domestic opposition which wanted better relations with the west

i figured they were doing the thing where they were aiming for a position where they could go nuclear quickly if forced by a new khornate us admin but didn't actually have a 'nuclear programme' proper, but i didn't read closely

The Iranian desire for the bomb had some real basis I think, but Iraq provably convinced them that a US invasion of Iran wouldn't have public support, and that the US would be over extended in that event. In that context, the bomb loses its utility, but the threat of it could still be used as a bargaining chip, hence the Iran deal.

NK probably still sees the US as an existential threat, and it needs something terrifying to grab concessions on sanctions and such, so it'll never stop trying to get a working bomb + missile delivery system, sanctions or no.

the facilities full of centrifuges suggest that actually Iran is interested in nuclear weapons, or more specifically in the ability to make them on short notice

Didn't Israel spend billions of dollars bluffing the USA into believing that they were serious about launching a major assault against Iran in the hopes that the US would go all 'Hold my beer' while not actually believing in the nuclear threat? But instead of air strikes we got the Iran deal and Bibi was furious.
