I think it would behoove them to go back and make a remaster where, whenever a ghost comes onto the screen, they announce clearly "I am a ghost".

In addition to characters clarifying their ghost status upon appearance, they should also need to clarify the following:

They are/are not villains.
They are/are not protagonists.
They are/are not wearing a hat.
They are/are not over 40.
They are/are not aware they, the character, are in a movie or TV show.
They are/are not afraid of bees.
