Macron absolutely did not run as center-left and the only way you could assume this is because the self-proclaimed US center is so far right it's starting to embrace loving Reagan. Also the PS embrace of neoliberalism predates Hollande. The main reason Hollande got a landslide at the time was not being called Sarkozy and giving some mild hope that the PS might go back to being a left wing party, which he caved on in about five minutes.
