Shoehead posted:There's a thirty quid buy-in for the early access version atm but it'll be free when it's out properly. Is the Bethesda launcher version still free? Bethesda launcher version is free, but from what I hear you only have access to it if you played in the beta. Not 100% sure though since I don't know anyone interested in this game who wasn't also in the beta.

I tried searching for this and couldn't find it There's plenty of poo poo about the participants in the group stage but nothing about the times for the matchups. According to Liquidpedia there might be some duel matches starting in about 5 hours but I think today is mostly sacrifice and tomorrow is mostly duel. edit: apparently the rapha vs cooller match in 5 hours is just a show match, maybe... DreamHack Denver QC tournament has started: https://www.twitch.tv/quakechampions Exact schedule is unclear but it looks like Sacrifice is first, Duels are later on in the day, and finals for both are tomorrow. LG is really bad now with the most recent patch on Wednesday so it will be at least somewhat interesting to see how things play out with its limited use. However, expect to see some really drawn out duel matches.

If I meet someone in Silver who is actually really good and messed up their placements, then what's stopping them from simply rising rapidly through the ranks? Honestly I think the reset is more about finding and fixing bugs than anything else. They've said they want to implement seasons once they fully launch the game, so having all the knowledge from this trial reset will hopefully make that process smoother.

dev stream @ https://www.twitch.tv/quake Edit: Here's the recap - https://quake.bethesda.net/en/news/1YVC3dFnGcWusAMOcygW4S Nothing super exciting, was hoping for them to show off Death Knight but I guess they are saving that for QuakeCon. Also CTF seems like its still in the super early stages of development. They changed the 3D model of the sacrifice soul to a flag and... thats it? They talked some about how they were designing it but didn't have much in terms of specifics. BattleHamster fucked around with this message at 21:01 on Jul 27, 2018 |

Sort of hate this teleporting ball that only takes me half as far as the ball went I would suggest Visor since his ability is purely informative and just enables you to Quake better. Ultimately your probably going to have to learn all the abilities if you want to get far. It's a different game for better or for worse and champion balance can change drastically every patch.

Sikreci posted:What's the deal with the netcode? I'm no Fatal One Thank You but it feels okay to me. I see tons of people bitching about it everywhere other than here and claiming the game is fundamentally broken, though. Also I guess there were a bunch of technical problems at Dreamhack or Quakecon or something? One legitimate complaint that comes up is the lag during major events which are supposed to be over LAN. Of course since there is no LAN client they have the game running on a local server which can lead to poo poo like this: https://clips.twitch.tv/TardyOptimisticAnacondaPanicBasket And yes, if it wasn't obvious this lag spike is happening for the players too not just the spectators (during the Dreamhack 2v2 tourney they even had player comms on during one lag spike and you could hear them complain about it). Spikes like this happen at least once or twice during every major but I don't think they should ever be considered acceptable in such a controlled environment. I think most of the general complaining about netcode is pointing to one off events and ignoring the 600 times the rocket didn't phase through your body or not stopping to think about if there even exists a reasonable way to handle hit registration when an opponent has 300 ping. People compare it to Quake Live netcode when its going to be different because its a different engine with different devs built for a different game. While it's easy to say people need to stop whining and git gud, complaining has lead to some really good fixes being made. It wasn't too long ago that the the client-server tickrate was tied to your FPS: https://bethesda.net/community/topic/113893/weapon-fire-rates-are-linked-to-frame-rates-clip-included https://bethesda.net/community/topic/113925/high-upload-usage MJBuddy posted:At QCon the spectator client was lagging a bit on day 1, and they were troubleshooting that through the day. Mindblast posted:Agreed. I'll take any excuse to post this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdkDjsBiO58 I don't know if I'd say abilities make the game more forgiving though. If anything they increase the skill/knowledge gap by introducing more mechanics into the game, some of which can be very frustrating. So while abilities can be a nice crutch for beginners to make up for their weaknesses I don't think it does a good job of solving the "baptism by fire" your talking about here. At this point the pros are so far beyond anything I think I could accomplish in this game that I find myself just enjoying QC as the Rapha and Dahang show. I'm not really into anything besides the pro streamers but here are my recommendations: https://www.twitch.tv/rapha - One of the best pro players right now. Extremely knowledgeable and informative. Will answer questions about the game as long as you can get his attention. https://www.twitch.tv/dahang - Rapha's teammate and another really good pro player. Also very knowledgeable and viewership for his stream is a lot smaller than Rapha it's easier to get your questions answered. https://www.twitch.tv/ictoxic - Insane aim and movement. Almost never talks. https://www.twitch.tv/dooi - very small stream but I love Dooi's playstyle. will often take crazy gambles that somehow turn out in his favor.

Just a heads up in case anyone is interested... There's a big Duel tournament hosted by PGL going on in Romania this weekend (5th - 7th). Lots of amazing players from both EU and NA so it should be a lot of fun. I believe the format is a double elimination qualifier followed by a group stage round robin followed by a single elimination top 8. It will be streamed on twitch.tv/quake

Having said that, I think most pro players are running on 240 Hz monitors and I know Rapha has said that anything less than 144 is a significant handicap.

This patch does seem to have introduced some weird RAM usage issue, but I'm not sure if it's actually using far too much RAM or if it's just allocating a lot of it that is otherwise going unused.
