Here is my hot take. Coop's arc is so far Lynch's own. Dougey is our perception of Lynch born of the original show with quirky characters and whatnot, as hinted at by his loud suits and wild anachronistic hairstyle. And Lynch, who's spent some time out of business in his own Another Place doing weird poo poo, now returns, wins a jackpot by bagging a full season of the show again, but is expected by some to deliver the same thing as 25 years ago, as he fumbles to meet expectations, barely even remembering how to direct, the language of film, after all those years. Bad Coop is what some more 'hardcore' audience expect from the show - pain and suffering for the sake of themselves, the darkness that Lynch is also famous for thanks to his other works. They don't need, they want. Not going to go through excessive scene-by-scene analysis, as it really wouldn't add anything to my interpretation, but it's all there on the surface. I don't think it's too far-fetched all things considered, so CineD wouldn't probably be on board with this reading. But mainly lol at Windows Surface product placement.

I don't know why they had to go with two brothers Truman just because the original Harry wasn't available. Donna was played by a different actress in FWWM, and ostensibly Harry Truman could look like anything after 25 years. But they went through the trouble of introducing his brother, who is basically the same character, in the official novel before season three and stuff. Lynch loves the theme of duality, so who knows.

Helianthus Annuus posted:So is there anything in season 3 so far that's like the red room scenes at the end of season 2? Should I watch any of season 3 or should I just go rewatch that? 80% of season 3 is like that. Watch it.

I liked the part where a lady escorted Cooper who was about to piss himself to the ladies room, and then flirted with him.

The inclusion of the laughing waitress, Heidi I think, was a bit on the nose. Except for Bobby and doctor Jacoby no one seems to have changed their occupations, even secondary characters. It works for a diner owner or a sheriff deputy, but a waitress?

The show has the best product placement. First Evil Coop uses Windows Surface running some nonsense software straight from a nineties B-movie about hackers, and then Doc Hayward and Sheriff Truman Skype for the most blatant and almost literal phoned-in performance. This season of Twin Peaks is already much funnier than Always Sunny's latest season. IN MY OPINION.

Lucy has a funny voice that reminds me of someone I know in real life. Which is funny to me, IMVHO.

Kitsunegari posted:Do you know what skype is doc There is a Will Hayward with called middleburydoc on Skype. I know that studios are required to buy domain names and stuff if they mention web or email addresses in their shows, but I'd like to think that Lynch has literally searched Skype for Will Hayward and added this one, because the guy is American and maybe a doctor. I don't think Middlebury has any connection to Twin Peaks. E: oh, Warren Frost was from Middlebury. RIP.

Also, I'm pretty sure that the shadowy homeless people who keep repeating the same phrase were inspired by enemies from Alan Wake and/or Deadly Premonition, two games that in turn were inspired by Twin Peaks.
