Social justice is about respect. Your right to free speech is curtailed only by there being consequences for that speech, and I'd argue that legal consequences are probably more benign than one of ober's lot giving you a kicking, but both are a consequence.

Errr she knows nothing about learning disabilities, a lot of them can be picked up at baby checks. How will school training help that?

Im late as hell but I can answer this. Baby checks/one-stop checks can (mostly) only pick up those caused by a genetic disorder. A learning disability is (medically) characterised by
1. IQ below 70
2. Causing delays in development
3. Diagnosed before age 18.

And this is before bringing in learning difficulties such as autism or add into the mix

Schools need training in order to both identify potential learning difficulties/disabilities (this information could then be used to aid diagnosis), as well as training in order to best support equality of access to mainstream education

Is it now. How much of this evidence came to light after the Tory party discovered just how expensive special schools are? Cases should be assessed on an individual basis, it is absolutely horrifying that government and council pen pushers get to override actual medical professionals, and it's nothing short of evil that some areas won't even start the diagnosis process for children with ASD until they are 3, learning difficulties or not.

If you show me somone who thinks a child with Down's syndrome would do better in a poor inner city school than they would in a special school then I'll show you a oval office.

Development is about more than education, it's also a social thing. Having people with downs in mainstream schools, at least at primary level with the appropriate support in place, is a good thing. It also helps normalise their existence which is good given that ld issues outside of autism are basically never discussed outside of a scandal like winterbourne.

Besides which, speaking as an actual medical professional, it would not be my place to decide on their education - it's not a medical issue.

Outside of the most severe cases I'd also argue that its not evil that the asd process doesn't start until 3, as small children develop at different rates so it wouldn't be until that age that the differences become really apparent (this is a reason why mmr jabs became an issue). Please endeavour to remember that even in Tory Britain healthcare (including diagnostics) is still based on the best evidence.

If you want to slam the government wrt ld issues, some battles worth fighting are the pisspoor implementation of the autism act, the cuts to social care having an effect on the speed of finding appropriate placements (particularly in complex cases), and the more borderline people still have to face pip investigations.

I too am speaking as an actual medical professional. In our area they are supposed to take the evidence presented by medical professionals and follow their recommendations, in your area it might be different.

I'm not looking at every single school like it's a wonderful nurturing environment. Inner city schools have horrendous problems with bullying, the worst of them have problems with knife crime. As I said it's a case by case thing. Of course some children do fine with one on one support, but putting a vulnerable child with downs or severe learning difficulties into one of those sink schools is like throwing them to the wolves. They could of course be put into a unit within the school, but in many schools that's where the special needs children are kept for their own saftey for most of the school day. They only get to use the rest of the school's facilities when the other children are not using them.

You are also being very unfair to how well special schools manage socialisation and life building skills. They often do a much better job than mainstream schools, especially at secondary school age. It's genuinely offence and wrong to belittle what they do.

The reason special schools are so expensive per child is that this is how much it costs to properly educate and do therapy for those children. Having all the therapists in one place, a school nurse, and a GP, assigned to one place makes more sense than having them roam around different mainstream schools or, worse, having the child have to leave school to go to an appointment somewhere else.

Only starting the process at three, no matter how obvious it is is evil. You can pick up on it very early, if a baby does not make eye contact for example. My son had a diagnosis at 18 months old. It is absolutely crucial that therapy starts as early as possible and that they end up in the correct school environment. You start diagnosis at three it could be a year before they even get an appointement, then it will take up to two years for an actual diagnosis to happen. That makes it six years old. You know what they don't need to provide now? ASD nurseries, or one on one support for nursery age children.
It has absolutely nothing to do with developmental levels, they are just using that as an excuse to save money,
Fair enough, I'll try and do more research into early stage ld

With regards to the deployment of 'crusader' armies (NATO and perhaps Russia, would be counted as such I would guess) in Iraq and Syria, surely the winning move is not to play. Instead, allow the states of the region to maintain a cordon with logistical and air support from outside the region if requested from said states and adopt a point defence strategy on the ground. Deprived of access to funds, food and munitions from outside, attrition will see to it that the ISIS Caliphate cannot expand its borders beyond those permitted by the cordon. ISIS may be able to inspire acts of terror from people in the Cordon states, which can be dealt with on an individual basis by the security services of those states. Eventually their rulers will have to choose between food and normalisation, or slow starvation. It is possible that, thanks to their ruler's instinct for self-preservation (despite their lofty rhetoric of martyrdom) or rebellion from below, they will choose the former.

This is true. What I am advocating for is probably on the dumber side of dumb, but options need to be explored that allow us to hold ISIS at arms length whilst concentrating on Point Defence at home, and pursuing social and economic policies that can ameliorate the sense of alienation from wider society that are a large component in the motivation of these domestic terrorists.

In practice, while the international idea is dumb it's kinda what will happen in practice, because pissing bombs away on futile airstrikes is about the limit of what we can accomplish with our military and equipment anyway, and diplomacy isn't very helpful against a death cult.
