Intrinsic Field Marshal posted:Both sides are wrong as they both seek to curtail my freedom People saying that you shouldn't use words that disrespect people for accidents of birth are not the same as people who want to hurt people for being different. There is no regressive left in the UK, and claiming that there is actively helps the far right. Social justice is about respect. Your right to free speech is curtailed only by there being consequences for that speech, and I'd argue that legal consequences are probably more benign than one of ober's lot giving you a kicking, but both are a consequence.

learnincurve posted:Errr she knows nothing about learning disabilities, a lot of them can be picked up at baby checks. How will school training help that? Im late as hell but I can answer this. Baby checks/one-stop checks can (mostly) only pick up those caused by a genetic disorder. A learning disability is (medically) characterised by 1. IQ below 70 2. Causing delays in development 3. Diagnosed before age 18. And this is before bringing in learning difficulties such as autism or add into the mix Schools need training in order to both identify potential learning difficulties/disabilities (this information could then be used to aid diagnosis), as well as training in order to best support equality of access to mainstream education

learnincurve posted:Is it now. How much of this evidence came to light after the Tory party discovered just how expensive special schools are? Cases should be assessed on an individual basis, it is absolutely horrifying that government and council pen pushers get to override actual medical professionals, and it's nothing short of evil that some areas won't even start the diagnosis process for children with ASD until they are 3, learning difficulties or not. Development is about more than education, it's also a social thing. Having people with downs in mainstream schools, at least at primary level with the appropriate support in place, is a good thing. It also helps normalise their existence which is good given that ld issues outside of autism are basically never discussed outside of a scandal like winterbourne. Besides which, speaking as an actual medical professional, it would not be my place to decide on their education - it's not a medical issue. Outside of the most severe cases I'd also argue that its not evil that the asd process doesn't start until 3, as small children develop at different rates so it wouldn't be until that age that the differences become really apparent (this is a reason why mmr jabs became an issue). Please endeavour to remember that even in Tory Britain healthcare (including diagnostics) is still based on the best evidence. If you want to slam the government wrt ld issues, some battles worth fighting are the pisspoor implementation of the autism act, the cuts to social care having an effect on the speed of finding appropriate placements (particularly in complex cases), and the more borderline people still have to face pip investigations.

I understand the options are there for the prime minister to choose from, and confirmed in the letters of last resort. It's still no safer for foreign states to nuke us in this hypothetical and unrealistic doomsday scenario.

Let's be clear, it's a bad idea that will result in misery and death for millions.

Lord_Adonis posted:With regards to the deployment of 'crusader' armies (NATO and perhaps Russia, would be counted as such I would guess) in Iraq and Syria, surely the winning move is not to play. Instead, allow the states of the region to maintain a cordon with logistical and air support from outside the region if requested from said states and adopt a point defence strategy on the ground. Deprived of access to funds, food and munitions from outside, attrition will see to it that the ISIS Caliphate cannot expand its borders beyond those permitted by the cordon. ISIS may be able to inspire acts of terror from people in the Cordon states, which can be dealt with on an individual basis by the security services of those states. Eventually their rulers will have to choose between food and normalisation, or slow starvation. It is possible that, thanks to their ruler's instinct for self-preservation (despite their lofty rhetoric of martyrdom) or rebellion from below, they will choose the former. Fans posted:The way the system works Sixers are able to be auto approved and everything else needs to be cleared by one of the higher up admins.
