Why did SNP lose so many seats? And what's the crash course of the DUP since the fate of the UK relies on them now

Gort posted:Their voters were split between Labour and SNP, and there was a lot of movement from SNP to Tory. Voters can go from SNP to Tories in 2 years? That's certainly a thought process. Jeherrin posted:Because independence turns out to be pretty divisive, and the crash course is that the DUP hate the gays and the sex havers and the Catholics. Wonderful

Sinn Fein showing up would be the ultimate chaos option, but Im not sure how that would play with the base. Does massively screwing over UDP/Tories outweigh the NI legitimacy stuff SF always talks about?

UrbicaMortis posted:See Adequate's post on the last page for why this won't happen. It's within the Sinn Fein constitution to not take their seats and an MP would be expelled from the party if they did it. Short of the government trying to pass internment camps for catholics, SF ain't taking their seats. I saw that. I was more wondering if this scenario is something the SF bosses daydream about as a What If or still a total non-starter

kustomkarkommando posted:Its a non starter. SF used to refuse to send candidates to the Irish parliament as they refused to acknowledge its legitimacy and the decision to abandon that policy caused a split and a small hard line splinter faction to break off. I see. SF coming out of nowhere is still one hell of a thought experiment. How much longer do The Troubles old guard have left?

Pochoclo posted:I remember reading about this study once, where they basically asked people to choose between two options: You can see option 1 in effect in places like San Francisco. All the high earning techbro salaries have massively inflated the CoL to an extreme degree and priced out all of the normal folks. And 50k is more than enough to live comfortably in East Bumfuckshire.
