In regards to the poll, despite having 657 total votes cast the Misc. Far Right Fash are outgaining the Scottish Tories, but as is everyone else

I'm not sure why the Scottish Tories have a separate category but Scottish Labour don't. Neither are separate parties. Only the Greens are actually a separate institution in Scotland afaik. Also that they've clearly not been called the Scottish Tories for a good year or so but the Ruth Davidson Opposing A Divisive Independence Referendum Ruth Davidson Party.

This just seems like another obviously bad move, unless all Tory voters consider themselves to be high earners. I mean how much intelligence do you need to figure out Tory plans if they will pledge not to raise taxes on high earners but they won't simply pledge not to raise taxes?

Depends how big the temporarily embarrassed millionaire demographic is in the UK, I guess. I didn't think we went in for that as much as the US, but once all those foreigns stop stealing our jobs, maybe we'll all be rolling in it?

Also I'll have you know the political hard-hitters that are the Scottish Christian Party has the very positive message of Proclaiming Christ's Lordship

who is going to Proclaim Christ's Lordship without them? Nobody, that's who. And then there will be no record in Holyrood debates of Christ being Proclaimed to be Lord.

If there was a hypothetical Labour/SNP coalition, is it to be taken for granted that the SNP would demand a guaranteed Indyref 2?

Sturgeon says she's ruling out a coalition and would prefer to work on an issue-by-issue basis. I imagine being able to look like they're opposing the Tories is going to be the main priority, unless they want to go the way of the Lib Dems.

Honestly, if you want to be cynical about it (not that I don't), the polls don't look that great for the result of the next indyref so finding an excuse to put it off for a while (ho boy snp voters, look at these big ol' concessions we got on these minor issues go us please keep voting for us) might be in their interest.

Raeg posted:

The problem for Big Nicky Fish is a Labour government, particularly one under Corbyn, makes Independence a lot less likely and I think she's tactical enough to know that.

Being seen as allowing a Tory government to happen would make anyone ever voting SNP again much, much less likely though, so that's also a consideration.

you see politics is not about who is best at representing the will of the people bit rather a contest for which party has the biggest electoral penis, and the loser can win and furthermore

a football team of twenty-two players probably would do pretty well in the Premier League though

If Scottish Labour continues to be a basketcase the SNP's main concern is going to be keeping their right wing from deflecting to the opposition because left leaning SNP supporters are going to have no viable choices, and often rank independence extremely highly.

I do agree in general that the SNP are going to have a hell of a tightrope to walk if they have to prop up Labour, but I'm not sure about this bit - the Scottish Greens are at least a viable pro-independence option to give seats to in Holyrood (and in the council elections), which is an important battleground for the SNP.

Also the SNP membership has made a bit of noise recently on issues like land value taxes which may manage to slowly drag them away from the tartan tory gang, though I imagine that is going to take a while if it happens. But then again, hope is a mistake.

Is there a good measure of how many SNP voters would be put off by a leftward shift? I know some of the actual MPs/MSPs are shits but someone is at least telling most of them to pretend not to be, and my general impression is the SNP messaging has been keeping up a broadly left-of-centre rhetoric for a while and it's not put too many people off.

CoolCab posted:

The Greens and maybe even Labour will make gains in PR systems which will hurt any independence hopes even more and wind up utterly decimating any representation they have in Parliament.

‘If there is hope,’ wrote Winston, ‘it lies in the 18-24 year olds.’

If there was hope, it MUST lie in the 18-24 year olds, because only there in those swarming disregarded masses, 85 per cent of the population of Twitter, could the force to elect someone who wasn't a total poo poo ever be generated.

Winston thought about this for a while, and then opened the loving window and jumped out to his death.

Papers are starting to come out with their official endorsements:

So far:

Sunday Times: Conservatives
Guardian: Labour (strongly so)
Economist: Lib Dems (but reluctantly so)
FT: Conservatives (but doesn't like May)

Sunday papers are all Tory except Sunday Mirror which is Labour. The rest of the dailies haven't formally endorsed yet. I'll be interested to see The Times (they don't always endorse the same as Sunday Times), as they've been pretty critical of May recently (although I suspect they'll revert to type and back her anyway).

The Observer has sorta made an endorsement which seems to basically amount to "vote for not the Tories and for whoever might make Brexit less bad, but remember that Jeremy Corbyn smells and we hate him"
