I'm sitting here thinking and legit the only thing I can remember from last season is that it annoyed me so much I kinda rage quit before it was done and then ignored the internet season that followed.

Oh wait, it's coming back to me. The cute romance between James and... Natalie? Cody's brother being horrible? Da'vonne driving Vanessa's sister into a mental break? Frank being unable to decide if he was a good guy or a bad guy?

Who won? Why was I so mad? Nicole? Why did I hate her when I used to like her? So much of last season seems like a blank to me.

Of course that was pre-Trump when all time started moving at a much different pace. So that could explain it.

I'm doing my usual hemming and hawing about whether I want to get sucked into this again like I do every summer, but on the pro side I basically just keep coming back to that gif.

edit: I have a problem because I've spent the last few hours just on and off re-reading last season's thread while watching baseball.

I just made this super weird discovery that in August 2016 a full two months before "Pussy Gate" Paulie excused his terribly sexist treatment of Natalie as "locker room talk."

And what's the best free hosting site for images? I notice all mine from last year are gone, which makes me sad. Imgur?

Also, if you have any sort of way to just record a straight video clip from your screen, Imgur has a tool that will automatically convert it to gifv for you. The size kinda sucks by comparison, but would probably be fine for just posting stuff in the thread.

I'm clueless about this stuff. I've never recorded anything or gifed anything, at least not in this decade. I was making gifs 20 years ago with a cable wire plugged into my computer and Quicktime but I'm guessing that's not an option anymore.

I'll look and there's probably some kind of solution. At worst I'll go to one of the TVIV threads where there are gifs and ask someone. But I want to see if I can figure this out next week and make it easy just to have some more fun this season.

You don't NEED a Sunday challenge. Especially if there's a non-challenge gimmick that can occupy the same TV purpose and affect the game. Like, if every week a HG is being pulled aside to play a game or open a Pandora's Box or something that serves the same production purpose.

If they really want a challenge they can just do Have Nots ones.

Hey, here's a pointless post just so I can practice this gif thing and figure out how much of a pain it will be to do on the fly. They revealed the house.

Theme of the season is "Temptation" so there's a kind of lame apple tree at the door of the house, which we'll never see on the feeds because that's a weird angle.

Julie spends a lot of time explaining the significance of "Power", "Alliance", and "Money." Apparently they have something to do with Big Brother.

The "Money" bedroom. Julie explains that its supposed to look like your dad's den, which calls up all kinds of jokes about her husband that I'm going to avoid to try and stay nice until I learn to hate a HG. This is the only bedroom they show so no idea about the closed in room or the Have Not room.

The bathroom, looking all shiny and clean and fancy. The HGs are probably moving in right about now and seeing it for the first time, and it will be utterly unrecognizable when feeds turn on.

The parlour is apple themed this year. That couch setup looks uncomfortable as gently caress and I imagine it will be gone by the time feeds turn on.

Nothing interesting upstairs. There's a door but I think that's always there.

HOH room is all gold. I got nothing. I don't think I see a door for a second HOH room.

Maybe the only relevant thing in the video, there are lock boxes in the HOH room that require two keys. That could easily be a thing during the season, especially with this Temptation twist stuff.

Ok, I'm done. That wasn't too bad. Practice makes perfect.

There's probably some design team that gets carried away trying to make the place unique and memorable never really thinking about "living" in it or the game. Like, besides the fact that the parlor couch looks awkward and doomed its counter productive because you want that room to be as comfortable and open as possible because its there for gaming. Its funny because a week or two in the place is so "lived in" you don't actually notice anything unique besides the Have Not room and the bedroom names. Unless there's some big change like the phone booth.

So two things I just read that seem to be adapted from Over The Top.

- Jeff will now be doing live interviews with the evictees on the feeds after the live show. This sucks if it blocks the feeds since post eviction/HOH feeds are awesome but from the sounds of it OTT would air DRs in 1 feed and leave the other 3 open? So hopefully its that.

- There's apparently a rule that they can't sleep between 10 AM and 10 PM, which sounds like the sort of thing they wouldn't enforce but I guess OTT had that rule too and it worked out fine.

Ah, well that's what I figured. I saw people on Survivor Sucks talking about it like it was actually effective on OTT. But amongst their many character flaws they also seem to have really liked that season, so who knows what they're thinking?

But yeah, I assume it will get enforced a bit and gradually fade away. If everyone's just sleeping in the afternoon for no reason maybe they'll do something about it, but if the house is active they'll let that one or two napping person disappear as they always do or let Donny go to bed at 8 PM every night.

I'm doing my annual dumpster dive into the cesspools that are Big Brother fandom...

There's a really popular rumor that Paul is coming back, which has already exhausted me and sucked away some of my enthusiasm. There's some fan theory that the first "temptation" will be someone being offered some sort of prize and getting immediately evicted and replaced with Paul. There doesn't seem to be anything to support that but I did notice that the second episode of the season on Friday has "eviction" in the description.

On the bright side as best as I can tell no one's uncovered any especially damning social media behavior from any of the HGs. Just the usual weirdness, randomness, personality flaws, and fame seeking.

STAC Goat

I could justify a couple of players getting a second chance, and Paul would probably be one of them. But yeah, I'm hoping for a newbie season here and BB should save the returnees for themed seasons or something. Do All Stars or half newbie/vet at 20 or something, but leave some newbie seasons clean.

But again, its worth saying there doesn't seem to be a lot supporting the rumor besides like Paul talking about returning and disappearing from twitter or something. It just seems really popular in the BB world. But the BB fandom is insane, obsessive, and conspiratorial so it could be nothing.

STAC Goat

I mean, if they could do a proper All Stars for 20 I'd be all for it but I'm actually pretty content with the BB13/14/18 setup. 4-6 vets gives you just enough favorites you can see get a second chance and enough numbers so they don't get easily ganged up on, but still more newbs so it ain't just rehashes with people who all know each other. Basically BB's answer to "Fans vs Favorites."

So like, next season bring Paul back with 3 or 5 other people who "deserve" a second chance and I'm fine with that. But I don't want him back now and I don't want him tossed into this all newb crew.

edit: I was going to name some people to put with Paul but I realized that after Vanessa and maybe Natalie I too don't want to see anyone from recent seasons back.

edit2: Ian? If nothing else it would be funny to watch those four attempt to align.

I'm not a big fan of that level of arbitrariness, but I think that it would at least be an interesting experiment for Survivor since (a) so much luck factors into early boots and (b) they do 2 seasons of Survivor with huge casts every year.

With BB I think it would be a waste because we get way less seasons and smaller casts and while luck plays a factor on some basic level if you get voted out 1st or 2nd that means you spent 2 or 3 weeks living with the players and failing to form the social bonds needed to save yourself.

I'm sure some potentially good players get voted out early in BB but its set up differently than Survivor and I think there's way less room to just get completely unlucky. Early BB evictees tend to be passive and/or obnoxious and thus bad players.

edit: Like I think back to one of the more "promising" early evictees in recent history, Day, and I just can never get past how completely deserving Day was of going home when she did her first season.

1) She targeted Shelli and didn't give her the time of day, picked a fight with her boyfriend Clay and publicly targeted him, and then didn't cut any deal or make any attempt to fix that even after Shelli won HOH.

2) Vanessa felt a personal connection with her and figured out she worked in the Vegas casino world because she was from the same world, and she and Austin discussed the fact that they had the numbers to save her in Week 2 and debated doing it to upset the house majority. But when Vanessa went to Day to see if she'd admit the casino thing or make any kind of alliance with her Day completely shut her down and made no effort to save herself. So Vanessa and Austin wrote her off and instead formed an alliance with Shelli.

3) She correctly figured out Liz's twin secret and instead of using it to try and form an alliance she just exposed Liz and confronted her, giving her a reason to want Day gone.

4) She had a god-damned super power that could have saved her and she wasted it sticking it to Clay and Shelli.

Day's an extreme example but I think she really does show how many chances BB players sometimes have, even early on, and how they really tend to play badly to get evicted that early. Where on Survivor you might just be sick from the environment or something. I much rather we go back and grab BB players like Paul, Vanessa, and Natalie who played good games and had a lot of clear strengths and just made a couple of key mistakes that cost them.

I wouldn't even necessarily be that critical of early evictees. Some are obnoxious personalities or gamebots who play their way out. But some are just victims of someone else's game and the tendency for most players to just go with "anyone but me" early on. But still, you've got 2 or 3 weeks to socialize so if you go home 12-1 you probably didn't have a lot of game to offer.

Like, I just glanced over the first 2 evictees from the last few seasons and they all were either obnoxious or passive. But then I looked at BB15 and was reminded that Elissa spent the first two weeks on the block and targeted to go home and survived both. A big part of that was Amanda wanting to use her to weaponize MVP but a big part of it was also that Elissa played the game and had allies like Helen and Candice and turned people like Jessie. You can't really save yourself from a bad start in Survivor, but you've in Big Brother at least you've got a week to win people over.

Yeah, I certainly would have liked to see some live DRs. And these comps are largely lame but watching them live might have been more engaging. Like the first hoh is basically hot potato so I imagine that could have been just one long scramble. But it makes for a boring edit.

The whole safety necklace thing over the traditional ceremony also seems like it might have been more fun live since you get to see people get nervous if they haven't lit up yet and scramble.

On the other hand it looks like a hard house divide right out of the gate so that usually means less gameplay in general.

So two episodes in. Shelby seems cool. Alex and Morgan seem ok. Kryssie seems annoying. Jason seems like a tool as usual. Justin seems like a mixed bag between fun and obnoxious. Monte might have been deemed a racist by America along with being a moron? Only 8 episodes to go. These seem really long. Long empty studio interviews with Julie are really awkward for some reason.

Oh hey, I should be following the thread while I watch this. Dummie.

Edit: And oh, episodes are 120 minutes. No wonder they feel so long.

Eh. I know more or less how OTT works out but I didn't watch any part of it and don't really know boot orders or anything. So yeah, there's not all the drama that's usually there but there's also not all the stress and disappointment. So its a mixed bag.

Its definitely not a full BB experience, especially as a feedster, but its getting me in the mood and now I'm not gonna be so ignorant on it. And three episodes in and I'm starting to enjoy it. I really like Shelby, Alex, and Morgan and the only ones I really dislike are Kryssie and Jason. And maybe Neeley but I'm not sure yet. Justin kind of impressed me by playing for himself in the Double Veto, letting Alex get one, and taking out Danielle to keep himself safe. Danielle and Shane seem pretty self absorbed in general and expecting him to put himself on the line for them, but he seemed to have some basic head in the game smarts there.

But mostly...

Sad news. BBViewer doesn't seem to have old seasons' live feeds anymore. But it does have BB Canada 4 and 5 episodes so I might give them a watch this summer.

edit: Haha. A Kryssie HOH week has her piss off her alliance telling them to butt out, get annoyed by Alex all week, rage quit the POV, and then see her best friend go home. I kinda regret not watching OTT.

Massive OTT binge to finish it before BB19 because I screwed up my dates and thought that the season premiered on Thursday, not Wednesday!

- I wonder how long it would take to get sick of watching Kryssie go into a competition talking tough about how bad rear end she is and how lame everyone is and ending it wallowing in self pity that she sucked.

- I didn't much care for Scott (is his name Scott? That's how indifferent I was to him most of the season.) but his interview with Julie was a little interesting. He clearly thought out stuff a lot. A LOT. It might have been interesting to see him play on the feeds. Or terrible.

- The America Nominee/Care Package voting seems massively schizophrenic week to week. At some point were feedsters just purposely flipping it back and forth just to gently caress with them or something?

- There's a lot of ok twists in here but there's a LOT of them. The fact that Care Package and America's Nominee somehow led to Shelby's HOH having her entire alliance on the block seems like a design flaw.

- Whitney. You broke my heart. RIP Ball Smashers.

- Oh look, Jason making deals he has every intention to betray a day later and then making a big public show of laughing about it just to stick it to people he doesn't like. He's grown so much.

- Jason: I have actually basically not talked poo poo about anyone.
:o

- The first half of the DE eviction turning into a roast of the Jamboree was surreal. Man, this season seems uglier than BB18.

- Awww. OTT brought Alex and Morgan closer together as sisters. That's a nice cap to this really compelling sister storyline. It was the one thing that kept tempting me to watch OTT when it was airing and its the one thing I most regret not being able to see happen on the feeds and see if there was a really narrative there.

- Ha. There's even a production error in the episodes where Julie is hear talking over the credits after her Alex interview. OTT, you're so low rent its charming.

- Double Eviction episodes lose a LOT without the frantic 60 minute pace that causes total chaos.

- Did I say the twists invalidating Shelby's HOH were a little overly screwy?

- Julie: Would you believe me that there are two siblings playing the game? Care to guess who?
Whitney: I would say... Jason and Shelby?
Julie:.... HAHAHA!

Chenbot is human!

- I really dig this laser comp. Don't remember it since All Stars. I hope they bring it over to BB proper and... Oh, wait. It broke. I love you Ghetto Big Brother.

- I hate no Jury. Besides the fact that I just don't like the version of Big Brother where the viewers choose and its why I've enjoyed US/Canada and not the rest, no Jury takes away a big part of the game where there's an actual consequence to screwing people over or treating them like crap. Hence lots of fake deals and petty decision making.

- Oh look, Jason and Danielle tried to cut a deal to get Justin targeted, Shelby told them to gently caress off because they've already broken a bunch of deals and made a deal with Justin, and Danielle and Jason are all self righteous that Justin betrayed them. I guess there are some consequences.

- Morgan, "Kryssie, as a show of loyalty I'm going to tell you that Alex is my sister." Kryssie, "God, Morgan's so dumb to think I'd believe that, I'm so much smarter." Seriously, I don't think it would ever stop being funny watching Kryssie self own.

These episodes feel so long. And I'm running out of time.

Gotta finish OTT… can't have this dangling across seasons with my obsessive brain...

- Oh, hey. The Jamboree broke another deal because there’s no Jury to offer consequences. What a shock.

- So once again the Care Package manages to make it so that in Morgan’s HOH her only ally goes home. That’s, what? The third time the Care Package completely screwed the HOH? And how many times has the person who went home not been one of the HOH’s nominees? By my figuring literally the only HOH who didn’t have their HOH invalidated by America was Scott taking out Shane in Week 3. Every other week either America’s Nominee goes home or the Care Package forces a HOH ally up and out. I mean, its fine if you’re playing non-North America Big Brother but at what point is the HOH just an Immunity Idol?

- RIP Shelby. You made it fun and you kinda got screwed (but in fairness everyone kinda did). You could have been a star on a real season.

- The Final HOH brings a second person to F4 and then the other two compete in another comp? Why? Was OTT designed by just taking every random idea they had for Big Brother for years and saying “gently caress it, lets try them all at once”?

- I know this moment was probably taken out of context but I choose to believe that Justin’s brain really did break when he was trying to understand Morgan’s revelation, especially after trying to understand the new rules Julie had just explained.

- Of course Kryssie’s reaction to finding out that Morgan really is Alex’s sister is to go “they look nothing alike but if it makes her feel better for me to believe her, fine.” I’m sure I’d hate her if I had watched feeds but I can’t stop laughing at Kryssie. She’s just such a comical mix of obnoxiously over confident, wrong about everything, and ridiculous stubborn to accept it.

- There was something amazing about Jason and Kryssie spending all season screaming about loyalty and playing the game a different way and then at the end just being all “gently caress Justin, that dude can win. We just carried him this far to cut him.” And then Jason gets super offended that Justin says he's gonna keep fighting and not roll over and die. Or as Morgan put it.

- And then of course Kryssie responds to Justin being depressed by it and Thanksgiving by making it all about her and a person offense to all she’s done for him. Man, I would have hated these folks on feeds.

- Julie said “poo poo”!

- Justin: To be honest I just zoned out a lot in the house and was in my own world.

- The only moment of self awareness I saw in Kryssie was when Julie said “someone is about to finish 3rd” and she just started nodding in acknowledgement that it was her.

- And then she follows it up by claiming she threw comps and then pretended to take it badly… in the DR? Seriously? She literally tried to pull the "puppet master" defense on the idea that she did such a masterful job even the viewers didn't know she ran things.

- Ok, Kryssie’s gotten like 10 minutes of talk time between her two final pleas and eviction interview and I’m already sick of her poo poo. I guess that answers how long it would take for the amusement to get old.

- hehehe

- Morgan win is ok. She won stuff, made deals (or tried), strategized (as much as you could). Not a floater. And Jason lost a popularity contest he came in with a huge advantage with. That’s fun. Congrats, Bikini Girl. Its a shame you, Alex, and Shelby didn’t get on a real Big Brother season. That could have been fun.

- So are we officially dubbing the Ball Smashers the first successful Big Brother female alliance? I know they didn’t make it to the end like the Brigade, Cool Town, Hitmen, or Renegades but they stayed (mostly, Brigade-style) loyal and hey…

- All in all, that wasn't a bad watch but its Not My Big Brother. And it seems like it would have been a really toxic followup to the toxic BB18. I probably made the right choice when I saw Jason was there.

OK, BABY! I'M READY TO BE OBSESSED AND CRAZY! AND MORE ANNOYING THAN EVER BECAUSE I’M THE LAST PERSON ON THE WEB WHO’S LEARNED HOW TO MAKE GIFS AND AM ABUSING THE gently caress OUT OF IT!

- I had to. Its Shelby’s reaction that really makes it.

Who knows? But they had to have been in the house awhile. Comps are always a couple of hours and Paul had to do his temptation thing. Between that and whatever time there was before the comp there was enough time to make first impressions and make sure you interact with everyone. If people were expressing that they were weirded out by Cameron and/or Jillian or they were just kind of isolated then that could have been enough to give Christmas confidence in a vote.

I mean, who knows? But I was watching the show and saw Cameron screaming weirdly, doing strange things with his tongue, and behaving strange all around so if I had spent a few hours in a house with him and a bunch of strangers I might feel confident taking my chances that I came off better than him even if I didn't have any inside knowledge or deals or anything.

One good thing about the Den of Temptation. This vote goes until tomorrow at 9 AM BB Time and then they need time to send [strike]Paul[/strike] the winner into the Den and do the whole thing and then introduce it to the HGs. So even if tomorrow is just a rush of stuff for the HGs the feeds should turn on either hours before or after the noms so we're not going to miss the entire first week of play like we usually do.

Online interest seems to be split between Christmas and Cody, which is why Paul is gonna win.

I don't know what to make of Raven because:

A) I don't believe her entire quirky fairy girl act and am convinced its all a put on.
B) She apparently has a very different social presence.
C) She appeared to be trying to seduce Paul during that temptation thing.
D) She apparently had some life endangering freak medical thing as a kid that had her on shows like Oprah for most of her life.

I'm very curious as to who I'll see when I turn on feeds tonights.

My stance it what it always is. I don't believe Big Brother in any way "rigs" things. But I do think they push the needle sometimes and they're clearly pushing the needle for Paul to keep him from getting targeted right out of the gate and worry he's gone in 1 week. I feel like they've done that with their "gimmick castings" ever since that "Saboteur" who got booted in Week 1 or 2.

So Paul's going to get a big handicap for these first few weeks but he can still lose the game. Paul's a smart guy and a savvy social player, though. Or at least he was most of the season until he lashed out and abused Natalie which ultimately might have cost him the win. So I expect him to be able to make something of the Friendship Bracelets, his celebrity status, and if he gets the Pendant.

And yeah, vets always seem to get paid more and they get a lump payment while the others get paid week to week. Which is why they're always so focused on "making jury" since it guarantees them the full money.

I don't think much about the idea of BB casting a weak group as some kind of favor to him. BB casts are always filled with pushovers and idiots and followers. Its tough to know who is a player and who isn't based on the premiere episode. Its part of what I really enjoy about the first couple of weeks of feeds. You get to watch everyone play and really form an opinion of their styles and approaches.

The vet thing should be a huge target in Week 1 or 2 when a lot of people are looking for an easy target and still forming alliances and trust. Its usually someone who doesn't fit in, overplays, or is really obnoxious but "take out the vet" is as good a reason as any. Its all about finding some obvious problem you can lay on someone that the rest of the house can unify behind.

It didn't happen last season because Nicole won HOH and the vets were able to quickly form bonds while the "anti-vet" crew were driven by Jozea and a pair of misogynistic assholes in Paul and Victor. And Jason survived in Week 1 with POV and Week 2 with the Care Package*. Elissa survived with MVP. Once you get past those first couple of weeks then the game has started and people have their own issues and relationships so your veteran status should be less of an issue.

Which is why these things always seem designed to get the Vet past those first few weeks and into the game.

*Of course Jason should have gotten his rear end booted all season because of the fan voting, but he had a team of sycophants who seemed content to help him win so what can you do? But if the HGs learn that there's a fan vote aspect to this season then maybe that hurts Paul. Or maybe he wins the first one, tells everyone, and they decide he's irrelevant now. Who knows?
