Magic The Gathering was banned from my middle school because the rules said you could optionally ante a card that the winner gets, so it was gambling.

These are so dumb.

Going on a waiting list at a toy shop so that my kid could get one is perhaps the only dumber thing than the fidget spinner itself. (ended up snagging one that someone else reserved and didn't pick up, I was truly a hero dad that evening)

A *wait list*? I was at the mall and there was a kiosk selling nothing but those stupid things. I'm sure you could get one from Amazon in short order, too. Unless there's some specific brand or something.

And none of those were either of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies!

Know how I know The Rundown was good? Because it had a Rock Bottom in the first five minutes.

X-Men (1992) #1 is certainly a good cover for Cyclops.

Maybe Long Bow Hunters #1 for GA?

They definitely intended Ghostbusters 2016 to be the start of a ~cinematic universe~ though I'm not sure about the specific details of future additions.

Wait, the current Miles isn't the Miles from the Ultimate Universe?
His life seems *mostly* the same, but it seems clear he doesn't remember being in a different universe with a different Peter.

So the implication is no, it's not technically.

Wait, there's a separate 616-native Miles? I can't tell my friend about that. He'll never pick up another comic.

There is, but he's never appeared. Peter just googled him after meeting Ultimate Miles.

There's no reason 616 Miles has to be a child considering 616 Peter is an adult and Ultimate Peter was like 16 when he died.

Howdy folks my name is Avian Pneumonia and MY GIRLFRIEND just inherited a bunch of comic books from her father who recently died.

Thing is that these comics include a bunch of really valuable comics?

The photos she's sent me include an Archie comics #1, Archie's Girls: Betty and Veronica #1, and Archie's Pal: Jughead #1.

I know not much more than the average early 30s American about comics and I know NOTHING about the process for determining the value and selling such things.

What the hell should we do? We first need to get them graded by a professional but there are different organizations? And then where to sell it? I've been ripped off on ebay before and am cautioning against it but I'm also weary of some of the auction houses that are being mentioned as I'd imagine they'd take a big cut.

Help?

Is this even the right thread? Apologies if there's a better spot for this to be.

If you want them graded, CGC is pretty much the only option worth bothering with.

As for selling, ebay is probably your best option, despite its issues. Just make sure to document everything you do.

Is Zorro the first American superhero in any medium? In terms of publication, he's the earliest one (1919) that occurs to me. What's the dividing line between a pulp hero and a superhero?

It really depends on what you define an American superhero as, but Hugo Hercules predates Zorro by 17 years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Hercules

As for pulps, they were defined as large anthology books on lovely paper (not unlike how manga is published in Japan to this day), and could include any number of genres including, I'm sure, superhero stories once those became popular.

Wiki has a list of superhero appearances, with Spring-Heeled Jack being in the 1800s, but I have a hard time including an urban legend put in comics a century later as a superhero.
