http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/sources-out-of-cleveland-say-jimmy-butler-will-push-for-trade-to-cavs/

Jimmy Butler's mouthpiece in Chicago speaks.

Jimmy Cowley posted:

Jimmy Butler Cleveland-bound picked up even more momentum on Tuesday.

According to multiple sources out of Cleveland, not only have Cavaliers players – including LeBron James and Kyrie Irving – been reaching out to Butler directly and through back channels over the last five days to gauge his interest, but liked what they heard back from the Bulls three-time All-Star.

One of the sources indicated that Butler would even push his front office to get the deal done, which is a huge change of direction for Butler, who has told both general manager Gar Forman and VP of basketball operations John Paxson numerous times over the last year that he didn’t want to be traded.

Then again, that was before the Eastern Conference powerhouse Cavaliers became a possible destination.

...

A Bulls source indicated that the message coming out of the meetings with both Butler and Wade was the “Three Alphas’’ storyline is played out.

While Butler and Wade personally have no problem with Rajon Rondo, they would like a proven outside threat at that point guard position to open up the floor.

The Sun-Times reported last week that Butler has been in the ear of free agent point guard Kyle Lowry about coming to Chicago since the two played on Team USA last summer, and now there’s a new name in the mix.

All-Star Kyrie Irving has been contacting some of his former Team USA teammates and letting them know that he might be willing to push for a trade, especially if he feels the Cavs’ run could end quickly with James able to opt out after next season.

Through back channels, Chicago would be one of the places that Irving would be interested to play.

Is D'angelo Russell secretly bad? Why are the Lakers doing this?

Because they are shedding a real bad contract in Mosgov, and they are planning for George to be there this year or next year, so they want a competitive team and Lopez is a real real good player still.

That trade makes perfect sense for both sides.

The Nets get an actual honest to god draft pick, and a young player with upside potential. They get a vet in Mosgov, who can play minutes while they are still bad.

The Lakers, get really really good big(who is an expiring), and gain cap space for the cost of a 27th pick. For when they get George, and then try and woo Bron there.

So basically they're giving up the #2 overall pick for a contract that almost everyone thought was bad and signed on the first day of free agency as the first center signed.

Lakers.

Where someone is drafted doesn't mean poo poo. Where someone is picked doesn't mean poo poo after they have started playing. Especially when there is a new GM from the ones who drafted that person.

DLoading was not liked by the new Front Office and poo poo Lonzo p much told you as much by what he said about needing to be a leader, on the floor and in the locker room like right after his meeting with the Lakers.

Sometimes Picks don't work out and don't fit the culture, poo poo happens.

They were able to trade salary filler in Mosgov, and a player that didn't fit into their future in Russel, for a talented Big in Lopez, a d100 in a 27th pick and significantly more cap flexibility going forward.

You can't do anything about the mistakes the previous GM's made. All you can do is do what you think is the right play.

This is why this trade is dumb as hell:

Even if they hypothetically get Paul George, is a core of Lonzo Ball, Paul George, Jordan Clarkson, and Brandon Ingram going to win you 50 games?

Luol Deng, Corey Brewer, Jordan Clarkson, and Tarik Black are taking up $41m next season. Paul George's max will be 33 or so. That's $74m invested in 5 players and no assets to dump any further salary.

They couldn't afford LeBron without completely emptying the cupboard of assets and LeBron Paul George and Lonzo Ball aren't winning a title with a replacement level bench and no cap space to add talent.

Who the gently caress cares about this upcoming year. Lebron can't opt out til after next year anyway IIRC.

in 2018 before the season, Without George, the Lakers have 38.5 million of the (Deng, Clarkson, Ingram and Nance).

That's assuming they don't resign Randle, who is an RFA, or David Nwaba who is a created character in year 30 of MyGM.

They can ditch Deng if they really need to takes total down to like 20 million. Might have to give up a pick or something to do it, but if you are getting Lebron loving James picks start mean way less.

edit: whoo boy if they don't get bron bron though, or Paul George gets wooed by someone else in free agency.

Yeah, I get this, I just think it's dumb, the Lakers have consistently missed on free agents for years now, and even if you get Lebron, why make Dlo the guy you trade in a cap relief deal? Clarkson stinks and has a big contract, Randle stinks and will need to be extended next year, Russell and Ingram were the best contracts on the team. I don't think he's a great player or anything right now, but for his age, Russell was playing well. He had a better PER than Devin Booker who people seem to love. I know, PER, but still, he needed to at least bring back a higher pick than this.

The new GM and front office didn't like him. It sucks and is often dumb, but they didn't like him.

Like I'm sure a bunch of beat reporters are about to dump all of their Russell stories now that he's off the team.

It happens all the time, if a coach and a FO don't like a player the second they get cover to do so they will get rid of said player. Or the Player if the player is good enough they will be able to get rid of the coach/FO(unless they are the Bulls in which case lol)
