It's kinda of crazy how the timing worked out for me. Just got out of a laggy rear end Doma dungeon in time to kill Gamma in Yanxia, and after watching some msq cutscenes ported to Azys La to kill Leu and the server. :thumbsup:

I hope the alluded to calamity is us, and specifically the rear end whupping we're going to unleash on Garlemald. By the end of the 5.0 plotline we should have reduced their civilization (what's left of it) to the state was in before they "invented" magitek.

What are the chances we'll get alien antagonists at some point? Omega's creators come to mind. Asides from Jenova, wouldn't an aggressive et civilization be a first for the series?

Huh, I wasn't aware of the Lunarians (haven't played anything before VI) or the Terrans (didn't play IX for some reason). I know Middy and his kids are from space, but they're not what I'd consider a hostile alien culture. Whoever created Omega could be like an Allag that didn't blow themselves up and spread their shenanigans to the stars. If they show up at some point, then Final Fantasy could beyond Star Wars references to actual Star Wars.

If Hydaelyn was evil, she would be telling us "obey" in Answers instead of "hear, feel, think".

She's obviously complicit in why the worlds are split/screwed up, but I don't think whatever action the mother crystal took was out of maliciousness. At the very worse, I'm guessing the reason will put her into a morally gray area, but I'm sure that Zodiark will fall into the lawful evil category. Watch all of this be wrong.

Big spoilers concerning the MSQ. Maybe the soul ripping Voice is none other than Zodiark himself? Perhaps the Ascians, who were originally his first followers, are doing more than simply resurrecting him and are working their own angle. I'm thinking they might want to get rid of both Hydaelyn and Zodiark (twin calamities) so they can rule as the New Gods of the world.

On another note, it was good I started Omega immediately. Parties mostly using diamond and ultimate weapons can dps and adjust to mechanics at the same time. Got a cool minion out of it, too.

Huh, I didn't think of it that way, but the callback in that context makes sense. It's definitely the same VA after listening to that sequence again. Then maybe causing the Empire to fall apart is the said calamity. I'm sure Black Rose isn't the only WMD they have and now they can summon on demand as well. If the various factions were to go at it, the destruction would probably spill far outside of the Empire's borders.

There seems to be a tendency among fiction creators to make their antagonist faction look really distinctive and cool, while the good guys are a ragtag mess of shlubs thrown together for survival. I can't think of many settings where the good guys have a more stylish aesthetic than the assholes.

As for the Garleans, I'd be happy if everyone there who isn't a populares or sympathizer gets stomped, but the armorers can live so I can get some baroque power armor.

You're right that their regular soldiers look like poo poo. Some legatus look like Warhammer rejects, but Livia, Nero, and Gaius (asides from the horns) have reasonable and ornate armor.

There's probably shades of truth to what he said, but I wouldn't trust that guy as far as I could throw them.

While we are one the whole theory tangent, it did surprise me when Ifrit (or maybe it was Garuda) said that they could smell Her scent on us or something to that effect. The words felt like they were addressing a hated rival than a higher power.
