It seems super premature to worry about automation stealing jobs. Maybe I'm missing something, but most forms of automation I've seen either are replacing really, really simple jobs or are proof of concepts that won't be ready for years or maybe even decades. And even when they replace simple jobs, people still sometimes reject it even if it might be a cheaper and faster solution. The one that seems most popular is replacing cashiers with touch screens and even that is sometimes rejected by customers themselves. Remember self checkout lanes? They're in every store now but they still haven't replaced cashiers because their still less convenient then the human cashiers if you aren't checking out just a few groceries. And even there, its not completely automated as someone still needs to be there to monitor the customers and help them out. Or even in restaurants, some still opt for human cashiers and waiters because some of the customers still prefer that over a touch screen. Or support centers, people bitch about getting support from a machine, to the point where companies advertise that they won't do that. And that's despite huge advances in Ai and voice recognition. Just because it's remotely possible to automate a job doesn't mean customers will accept it. So I really don't think our generation or even the next will need to worry about automation replacing a significant amount of jobs.
