at work we had some servers which were vulnerable to half open tcp connections killing the host, it was some bug in the kernel which was fixed a long time ago and security took down a few racks of the hosts by probing them. Turns out the hosts hadn't been restarted... ever and had an uptime of like 2200 days, made me sad to bounce em. They had been running longer than most people on the team had worked on them

all the old HPUX boxes at work has 2000 to 3000 days of uptime and everyone who cared about them already quit so I guess it will just keep increasing until something catches on fire

[05.11.15 14:50:05] root@hermes/home2/stemple# uptime 2:50pm up 2246 day(s), 17:34, 7 users, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.01 It would have been closer to 5000 days if that stupid Sun Netra box had redundant power supplies, I had to power it down when the power infrastructure was redesigned It didn't get shutdown permanently until late 2016 so it made it to 2600 or so, but I can't find the screenshot I took. [edit] it ran an internally developed timekeeping script in pure bourne shell scripting and sybase SQL (C) 1992
