it’s very weird that all the market panic is happening now. I don’t think people are fully reckoning with the fact that, a month or two from now, whatever bill is gonna be passed will have been passed, everything will still be shut down, and 10000 people a day will be dying. markets are not gonna like that.

Disney and Netflix are not in this group. So I'd look at Enterprise Value, Disney at like $220 bln and Netflix at $200. In the event of a liquidation there's probably *more* unsecured debt at Netflix than Disney.

Disney + Marvel + Star Wars IP could be sold for tens of billions of dollars so Bondholders would come out of it probably with at least 70 cents on the dollar. In a world where Disney is declaring bankruptcy, Netflix is probably doing the same and liquidation of there assets would be pennies on the dollar. poo poo man, the HY bond market already acknowledges this fact based on their debt performance

and not only do people believe this (that we solved everything and are at the “end”), but they (the boomers) take pride in this accomplishment, and see any social safety nets as backsliding on progress, and the idea that the united states is not the leader of “the free world” is anathema; anything bad that happens is just a brief mistake and can be course-corrected by just voting the correct way

i think that’s why it’s so easy for some of them to join the death cult or at the very least embrace austerity: everything is gonna be fine as long as everything stays the same and future generations, soft though they may be, are gonna pull through and embrace our legacy (and on the right it’s way easier to join the death cult because conservatism in the us isn’t a coherent ideology so much as a collection of wounds and slights held together by spite)
