Enough people were posting about it, I figured we'd start a thread. I'm gonna say anything specific roll with spoiler tags? Ep 2: The concussion scene was interesting to watch. At the D1 level, he'll have 5 trainers around him at all times and would go straight into the clinic. There he had one guy who left him in an alley to go watch the game? Well done scene, though.

Ep 3: Isaiah Wright is fuuuuucked up. That's gonna be a story for the rest of this season I'm betting. e: I think they're playing games with the box score in editing. Would have enjoyed one more episode to get the follow up rather than the blurbs about what the follow ups were, but strong season.Kidd-Liggit posted:Binged the season today Finale: Yeah, that was unacceptable. The biggest problem with Stephens is that he doesn't let up. He lays into someone and then just keeps going. I'm actually surprised that he didn't move to a different program. There's some JC out there that wants an OC like him. Agreed on Kam. I mean, I can get how he's hosed up, he needs to be medicated to even him out, but the kid has entitlement issues. I hope that it gets a season 3. This is by far the best football doc or drama out there and honestly can't be that expensive to make. And even if Coach Stephens kicks the cameras off campus, it wouldn't be hard to find another of the 700+ JC's willing to have a camera crew on campus.

Had a day to digest this season: Coach Buddy is gonna be an rear end in a top hat forever. It's amazing how quickly he goes from doing push-ups for saying "rear end" to cussing everyone out again. Even though the real star of the show is gone now (Ms. Wagner), I'd love to see how he does in 2017 after losing his two coordinators and his young hotshot coach. If he can't get good coordinators and loses two or three games, it could be interesting. Speaking of our favorite academic advisor, I hope she and her company develop a "life skills" course that a bunch of football schools use to get all their freshman players an easy grade and she makes bank. Having a job where she can still help these kids while still keeping them at arm's length can only be good for her. I always wonder what other students there think about all the football players getting walked through classes while showing up late, sleeping, and generally not giving a drat. I'd be shocked if there's more than one full-time academic advisor for the rest of the student population at large.

And of course there will be some students who aren't happy about the treatment the athletes receive but I think the vast majority are fine with it because they know they need the help or simply don't care.

Other sporadic notes: Thank Christ Clint got out of there. The way Stephens treats his staff is abhorrent. Disagreements are going to happen, but mocking coaches during a game is just so baffling to me. The OC even makes a comment like "last one standing" during an interview and I think it's pretty clear he knows what a no-win situation it is working for him for basically everyone. Also Stephen's mishandling of Isiah Wright bothers me so much. Yeah, the kid wasn't the definition of "first in, last our" and all that other JJ Watt poo poo but you learn how to deal with it. The first year I was at Kent we had to deal with Dri Archer basically deciding when he did and didn't want to practice because his "X" was hurting, you loving deal with it. Stephens doesn't give two shits about his players unless it serves him at the very minute and I love that Chauncey's mom says as much. Also let's please reflect on the fact that BUDDY STEPHENS TRIED TO EJECT A PLAYER'S MOTHER DURING A GAME FOR MILD HECKLING. I liked the DC a lot and yeah they got lit up a number of those games but considering his secondary at times couldn't understand a cover two I think he did an admirable job. It was touched on it earlier but Kam is everything I hate about players or people in general. 6 plus feet of entitlement. God bless the DL coach who had to deal with that bullshit. I love that the other DL are rolling their eyes and actively give him poo poo every time they're together. Seeing Brian George recruiting for Toledo brought the biggest loving smile to my face, he gave me a shot st kent off nothing other than a former player from 15 years ago recommendation. Kent didn't work out for either of us but god drat I love that dude. Anyway, I watched the second half of the season at like 6 in the morning and haven't slept so I hope my ramblings are coherent

Some thoughts on it: Good to see what happened with Chauncey after he got booted from UGA. His mom seems like a real cool lady. It was hilarious when she called them out on their bullshit and nearly got booted as a result. Of course, she was 100% right. I know that you probably get your rear end chewed a million times over the course of a season as a coordinator, but I don't know how anyone could go and work for Buddy. He seems to have genuine disdain for pretty much everyone the second something goes the smallest bit sideways and a total lack of empathy. You know that a lot of players come from pretty tough situations, but I seriously cried during a couple of the descriptions of their lives. I think one thing this show does well is makes you realize that sometimes a problem player has more going on than we could possibly imagine. I'm glad with what Ms. Wagner is up to and hope she can make an impact in a way that doesn't seem as emotionally draining as working at EMCC did. Also hope she finds ~*~LOVE~*~ since she isn't in Bumfuck, Mississippi anymore. I'd also like to know why the OC stepped down, or at least whose idea it was. D-line coach was my hero, DC was under-rated by Buddy the whole time.

Also, Pitt is relatively near his hometown in MD (at least way closer than anyplace in the South) so whatever support system he has should be able to help him. The head coach at Pitt is also a career defensive guy, so maybe they communicate better? Probably just a coincidence, but it's also fun because Pitt and Penn St just started playing each other again and it's already gotten kind of nasty after just one game. If he sees the field he's gonna try and rip someone's head off.

Davern is a good rear end dude and I would love to play for him. Coach Wood too. I found myself continually talking to the screen and calling Stephens an rear end in a top hat just like last season. How can one person be so hateful, negative, petty, and vindictive? How can you watch yourself act that way and not immediately alter who you are? Also, gulf coasts kicker who tried that onside signed with Texas :P E- Dakota Allen seems like a pretty good and genuine dude who hosed up once and is really getting at it now. Watching Buddy's descent into madness is great. I think, though, the problem and why his changes didn't hold was that he focused more on the surface level of his problems than the real issue. He thought his problem was cussing, when in reality his problem was putting the foot down way too much to the point where it became less and less effective. I wonder if Buddy subconsciously does this as a sort of performance for the cameras. The funny thing is Kam, the one where Buddy really needed to put his foot down got the softie treatment which left the DL coach in the lurch. I don't think Buddy is going to really change anything unless it starts costing him wins, though. This is a good show and I will enjoy more of it even at a different JUCO next time around. Isaiah Wright got screwed by Buddy, but did very little to help himself with his inability to manage his emotions. His one on one interviews are super enlightening. Kam I doubt lasts long anywhere. Stephens tried to "change" but he doesn't really get what the problem that needed changing was (his anger and lack of empathy, he just doesn't really get other people). Given his attitude I didn't want them to have a chance at a national title, they can complain about getting screwed out of 2 nattys but the team wasn't very cheerable, and hardly seemed like at team. The S1 team felt like it was a lot more tightly knit, this felt way more like the random collection of talent you'd kind have expected to turn out at a place like EMCC. I did like the deeper focus on the players backgrounds this time around S1 felt more about the story of the team, this felt more like the stories of the people on the team. The actual football outcomes I think were downplayed a bit this season, and it wasn't a problem or a bad thing.

I don't know how anyone could have the patience for that. (And I don't mean that to disparage the kids -- it's a complete failure of the system.) Unrelated thought (spoilered just in case - 2nd to last episode): And count me in with the group that was pissed off at Stephens for being so hard on Wright and others while completely babying Kam. Especially with shoving his position coach.

Granted, we see a brief glimpse of how these guys are but I can only assume what we are seeing is how they are in class IF they even show up. It was pretty refreshing to see Rivers and Allen take it seriously. You are right though, it is a complete failure and indictment on the system because you know teachers are supposed to look the other way and/or these players are probably getting bailed out each and everyday by someone.
