it’s the part where you called it “just” four jrpgs It took me 80 hours of mainlining ARR to get to Heavensward and that’s the part everyone says sucks rear end, so “it only starts slow” is technically true but still an understatement Tiny Timbs fucked around with this message at 05:05 on Jan 1, 2020 |

I will say that as one of the long time people in here preaching anime delenda est I played XIV through Stormblood and while I complained mightily about how anime it was I didn't actually stop playing it and for the most part had a lot of fun. 80 hours sounds a bit long for 2.0 but it definitely isn't short.

As a person who's tried to play a lot of JRPGs and stopped playing them due to not-as-fun gameplay (Rogue Galaxy notwithstanding--I lost my PS2 before I could finish it), God Eater 3 has the best "JRPG story" i've ever played and beaten. I'm happy with that.

GE3 is oddly really down to earth, and I found it so easy to sympathize with the characters. Despite their appearance, people act more human and relatable rather than pure anime archetypes. The game works to get you to invest in a specific character and, personally, I went along for it and had a blast.

I'm on Day 5 of Pathologic 2. Gonna be honest, things aren't looking very good for this town... I have to ask, there ARE bad endings right? Like if I keep pushing through, and things go more and more south, I'll still eventually end up at some kind of credits right? EDIT: Also I think I kinda got screwed over a little bit on Day 4. The log said I had two patients left to give painkillers to, I had painkillers in my hand, but when I went to inspect them I couldn't do anything more. And I think a direct cause of not treating these two people was more of the town getting sick AND I lost out on funding. But I wasn't allowed to do anything!!! God Eater 3 is really pretty good and I think it has way better gameplay than the previous to boot. I couldn't get far into God Eater 2 out of a combination of plot and because everything just felt really weird and cumbersome to control. God Eater 3 is much more smooth and a very fun experience.

Is there a recommended decent headset to use for gaming or is the cheapest/most popular one on Amazon good enough? It's mainly to keep the volume down so i'm not bothering others, but a mic would presumably be worthwhile to have if i ever play multiplayer games (what with MCC being out now and whatnot). I've got a webcam/mic but i'm assuming while that's ok for web-conferences it's probably not that great as a mic for gaming due to sound feedback and whatnot?

Cardiovorax posted:If it's just for gaming, I would recommend getting a decent microphone (you can get some pretty solid ones for under 50$) and whatever earphones you find most pleasant to wear for long periods of time. I personally prefer having audio and mic be separate, it generally means better audio quality on the headphones and you are also easier to understand at different volumes because the microphone is both better quality and not so close to your mouth. I would even consider shelling out for some decent bluetooth headphones, those come at just 40$ for something like Taotronics Sports Headphones and they last for easily 10+ hours of continuous usage. I own a pair myself, they're good. It's really convenient if you want to get up in the middle of a game and still be able to hear what's going on. They can even double as a cheapo headset with audio pickup in a pinch. Aha, see this is what i was wondering because it's a 1080p logitech webcam and the audio quality with that is superb already when i'm doing web conferencing and whatnot for work. There's no audio feedback during those either so would it actually be fine for gaming if i'm using touch to talk or whatever? I've got a pair of bluetooth earbuds already but never thought about connecting them up for gaming.

FWIW the HyperX Cloud II is super comfortable, has good sound and a good mic, according to my friends who have listened to me over voice. If you want a good gaming headset for practicality, I know I'm not the only one who digs it.

Yeah, my glasses are one big reason why I distinctly prefer earbuds most of the time. With the type of bass you can get out of them they're often almost as good as bigger headphones these days and I don't care all that much about audio quality in games anyway.

Cardiovorax posted:Well, if that works for you and you think the audio pickup is fine, then I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to use that. All modern operating system support separate input-output devices, so it would be no problem at all to use your webcam mic for input and wear the headphones so that the game audio isn't transmitted, for example. Completely typical setup, a lot of people do this. Aha, it's spelling it out for me that's twigged my confusion. I'm used to playing with headsets on consoles where it's only the comms audio that's come through the headset rather than the game audio too.

What other games are like this that also have this mission-based, competition feel (that aren't Factorio and the Anno series, which I've played)? Saw you picked up Big Pharma, if you're in the right mood it is pretty amazing. Its the only game I've written down design proposals to prove products and rate of returns. Its design algebra is a great way to surface input parameters and their resultant outputs in a way I think every spreadsheet based has failed at. Logistics, its not so much interesting though, there's correct and incorrect builds for each processing step to minimize space and no reason to ever deviate from the correct except a couple literal edge cases when you're working near a wall. If you like the spreadsheet business management parts of Production Line and Big Pharma you might consider branching out to the ur spreadsheet management game, Capitalism 2/Capitalism Lab. Rise of Industry is also fairly Anno-like. I found and wishlisted some game called Little Big Workshop while looking for the example game of what not to buy. I haven't played it but looks promising as one of the contenders trying to marry spreadsheet business management with manufacturing design. Otherwise I'm eagerly awaiting Good Company which has been coming out of closed alpha soon for about *looks at wishlist* a year now as another game trying to marry spreadsheet business management games with manufacturing.
