The What? This is a league where we only draft individual defensive players. As of last year ESPN started making things more user friendly for IDP players, their rankings for autodraft don't suck horribly and if I remember right they even had halfway decent weekly projections. Who Can Play? Anyone can play, there is no buy in for this league. Really it's just a fun spin on your typical fantasy football. I'm going to bow out this year. I'm wrapped up in too many leagues as it is, and as anyone who has done this before knows, it's a pretty big commitment if you want to be competitive. Epi Lepi, let me know what I need to do, if anything, on the ESPN page (though it sounds like "do nothing" is all you need from me)

Yeah you don't have to do anything, the league we used last year isn't usable since JoeRules is out and he's the commissioner of that one. We tried to just transfer everything over to me but ESPN won't let him leave so I had to create a new one. That means if you were in the league last year and want to play again you must send me your email again so I can invite you to the actual league.

Glad to have you back. One thing I wanted to bring up, last year since we had 12 people we added an extra LB slot. If it ends up that we're 12 again I can do that again, however ESPN created a new postion called Edge Rusher and there's a lot of random linemen and 3-4 LBs who apparently count for it. I could add that in instead. Or I could add that in anyway just for us to gently caress around with. It's like a weird extra flex and might make players like Von Miller more attractive to draft. Or maybe not, but I'd be interested to hear what other people think of the potential for that slot.

I PM'd you. I was almost gonna back out but a 5 league cap seems manageable. Definitely better than 8 leagues like I was doing the last few years! We should use the new position. It'll give everyone more flexibility when bye weeks come around, I think

Replace DE position with the edge rusher. We're looking for sacks from both so they overlap pretty hard.

I think we should look at the scoring settings from the cheating for charity league and see if we can adapt some of it. Last year, I felt like scoring devalued cornerback and defensive line. While the top tier guys got points, when filling out a flex spot, it was always a linebacker or a safety being slotted, which feels like an oversight.

I do agree that Safeties and Linebackers are waaayyy more valuable right now but I don't know how to give a boost to the other positions, corners in particular, within the constraints of ESPN. What does the cheating for charity league do differently?

Hell I could be easily sold on cutting a linebacker slot to if we added edge considering the LB specialists would cut down on the pool of available linebackers. If I cut it off at 90 points (lowest that seems starting viable imo) we've got 40 EDRs last year with 34 DE's. Add in rookies expected to produce and we're looking at about 47 EDR that could hit that mark (again imo) if no one declines. I just think it offers more viable candidates if nothing else for a position that heavily overlaps.

I haven't looked at ESPN in a while but can we do "big plays" for IDP like we can for defense? I'd consider that if possible. If not, I like Sarter's idea of increasing point values for certain categories. Also ches makes a good point. Maybe we can do a DE+ER flex?

Big plays smooth out the worth of linemen and DBs, and tackle heavy scoring can reward defensive players who are honestly bad at their positions. We all know bad corners get picked on and their tackle numbers can be crazy because of it. Not that I don't agree that safeties are undervalued, but I feel defensive touchdowns should still be worth more than safeties if that's the case. 10 feels like too much.

I forgot that a safety is also a stuff and a tackle and likely a sack so an extra 10 probably is too much. They're very demoralizing though since they're points for the opposing team and a turnover so how about 5 or 6 pats for a safety? I'm going ahead with changing DE to EDR and adjusting the scoring as discussed. I don't think we're getting any more goons for this league so I will invite some of my IRL friends to get us to 12. If anyone has any non-goon friends who'd want in I'm cool going to 14 teams. As for the Draft, I am partial to Thursdays or Fridays, pretty much any of them until the beginning of the season. My friends would be able to work those too. 8pm EST on for us. So tell me if any of those days work for you all, or your best days and times.

I'm gonna say let's do the Draft on Friday, September 1st around 7:30 EST, I know I am chronically late to things but I am saying hard start at 8PM. If someone absolutely cannot make it please let me know. You will have to auto draft but I would prefer to know ahead of time who will be autodrafting. Random question, for whatever there have never been divisions in this league, at least in the two years I've done it. Do people care about whether there are or aren't divisions?
