The nice thing about a dedicated supsup patreon thread is it means both threads are entirely black box free. Or Jeffery could advance us to the forums technology of 2001 and give us hidden spoiler sections instead of just blacked out, that would be nice too.

If there are so many posts about one thing that it takes up whole pages, then yeah. It's pushing other conversations out and needs its own thread. That's not happening here. There's people talking about a variety of stories on every page.

Spoilered posts are very visible and thus very easy to skip. So just skip them and post about what you want to post about. If you instead complain about how it sucks that people are using the space to talk about something you personally don't want to talk about, I think that's silly.

You made this post on page 427. Page 426 has 30 SupSup posts, and page 425 is only SupSup posts. This is not an uncommon sight lately, at all

I don't think making separate thread is a particularly good idea when I don't think people will spool up other discussions in the absence of SupSup talk, but assigning motivations to other people when you don't even have the facts right is petty poo poo. Silly and sullen, even

What if we made this indefinite with a little trick?". Usually, there would be people chiming in about how do we avoid creating great harm and spending page after page discussing the possibilities but there's relatively little to none. It feels bad, like the author wanted to show off this setting element and forced it through.

Pale LIghts Book 2 Chapter 5

Angharad, you've been on the island for mere hours, and already you have made a lifelong enemy of one of the most powerful families in the Watch by defeating an aspiring swordmaster lordling with a butter knife and all but agreed to steal something from the Black Cloaks to give to the queen who killed your whole family, without even considering if she's lying.

Girl, please, I beg you.

Honestly I read all the spoilers and will probably follow the patreon thread even though I don’t sub to the Super Supportive patreon. Its charms as a serial to me are unspoiled by and unrelated to knowing what’s going to happen.

Yeah I read plenty of the black bar text before I even started and it was largely impenetrable anyway. For current RR readers I guess it's something to avoid. But the volume is such that it does legit drown out other great serial discussion or recs so I'm all for a seperate thread. Good job sleyca!

I feel like there’s a lot of this kind of forced self-destructive behavior in WtC. This Used to be about Dungeons is much better in this regard. The characters still make objectively bad decisions, but they’re such messes it feels more consistent.

I just finished this last week so I've been thinking about it as well. I think Juniper ruminates a few times about being railroaded by the DM into making these decisions to force exclusions but ends up deciding that it's pointless to think about it since he can't really know anyway. But yes, the exclusions ultimately end up pushing them towards forced conflict and the conclusion, I think. The ending gets very meta with the reveal of the DM and what the world is, so it does end up mostly explained anyway.

Now to find something else to read

Disclaimer: I have a financial interest in the web serial. Figured I'd put that out there.

Ultimate Level 1 is CRUSHING IT in so many ways. It doesn't have the depths of Soup (to be fair, I'm putting the bar in the sky), but it's a well-executed progression fantasy litrpg that's crushing it on the charts. Hit #1 in both the litRPG genre AND action-adventure, beating out Sanderson, Pratchett, and LOTR. Author has an insane writing speed as well - at one point he told me he wrote 4 chapters in 2 hours, and I'm over here like "what."

It doesn't do anything particularly new or insane - it simply executes extremely well on a simple premise. MC awakens to a cheat skill, the powers that be know it's a cheat skill and don't want them around, can MC cheat skill his way to be strong enough to stay one step ahead of the executioners?

Oh, and Jones was there too.

Went and had a look at it. This is a nitpick, but I really hate the double-spaced lines. BTDEM does it too. It looks fine in Scrivener sure, but it doesn't look good on RR!

Oh, nevermind it's stubbed on RR anyway. Looks like they fixed the lines thing later too.

It got stubbed REALLY fast too, I remember reading it up to the current endpoint fairly recently and when I went back to my tab I was stubbed out of it lol. Also while I know there are limited overpowered cheat skills, the basic power concept is literally one to one with a mediocre manhwa I read once which was kinda funny to me.

It's not even close to sub ten thousand but I just caught up with The Shining Wyrm, about a dragon raised as a daughter by a local baron. Its main character is likable and charming, and the world it depicts is interesting. It does a good job of depicting a realistic medieval setting--- there's a lot about the ponderousness of armies marching, the cruelty of forage, etc.--- with cool magic stuff. What I don't love is that the prose is a bit mediocre, and it's rarely too exciting. But I'm still enjoying it overall.

Skill Thief is the one I've been reading and keep posting about - https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/72327/skill-thief-the-color-of-another-world-litrpg

It's unquestionably the biggest gap between quality and (low) popularity that I've ever encountered. I'm going to be pretty crushed if it ends up getting discontinued, because it's absolutely one of the top few serials I've read (PracGuide is #1 and I'd say that #2 and #3 are a toss-up between SupSup and Skill Thief).

I think it might be hurt a bit by the fact that it sort of advertises itself as a "progression" series while not actually being structured like one. Based off of the title, you'd assume that the protagonist uses his skill thievery to become really powerful, but in practice his progression is far slower and dependent on him being clever and/or working with others. There also isn't much quantification to the various powers involved, despite there technically being a "system."

Probably my only minor criticism is that it frequently does this thing where the protagonist keeps his plans secret from the reader, despite being written in first-person. But this doesn't really bother me because there's usually a good pay-off once his plans are revealed. Despite still being pretty short, there have already been multiple extremely cool scenes where there's some sort of big climax/pay-off to a tense situation.

There's some rule in heist writing where if you detail the plan, then it's destined to fail(detailed before it begins). The obvious thing is that if you don't tell the plan, then it's supposed to succeed. It's part of the genre. As someone who has written a fantasy heist and a sci-fi heist (stealing a spaceship, anyone?) you have to be a little opaque about these types of things.

I totally get why authors need to stub (Amazon contract stuff and income is vital to keep writing), but it feels really frustrating when you want to read something and NOPE, first 3 volumes are gone. But the author is still posting updates on RR, it's just that you got in too late.

I skipped reading a serial called "The Villainess Is An SS+ Rank Adventurer" for a few months, only to notice that the volume I was reading is now stubbed. Did I enjoy it? Yeah sure. Enough to pay 5€? Eeeeh. Which feels awkward writing it out like that, but.. :shobon:
One day once I've accumulated enough "I wanted to read this, but it's now stubbed" serials I'll just give Kindle Unlimited a try.

With that said, wow did these latest Wandering Inn chapters knock it out of the park.
TWI 10.11

quote:

Ceria stared around at Medain balefully, eyes bloodshot. Then she glanced at Yvlon. Either she was still ‘melted’ from last night or she was being more honest.

“And gently caress that [Innkeeper] too. Last night really put it into perspective for me, Yvlon. What is she doing on the news today? Dancing and fighting a battle in Baleros? If anyone should be weeping for what she did, it’s her. She had every right to call us. But I’ve never seen her just keep going on without mourning the cost.”

I've never wanted a sudden appearance of the new [Pavillion of Secrets] as much as I wanted it at that moment. That in combination with just how bad Erin seemed both in the eyes of Fetohep and Ulvama (not to mention herself) has me really curious how Pirateaba will steer volume 10. It's a great sign that I want to know more about Erin, the Horns, Nerin and Kehlts future at the same time. So many plot threads, aaaaa.
