The audio commentary only goes up to chapter ten right now. I'd suggest waiting for the last part to come out but it's about a year between each one.

Are there any webcomics (besides Homestuck) that regularly use animations or take advantage of digital medium?

Even something small like this http://www.threepanelsoul.com/comic/utility

Most of the ones I can think of have already been named, but Hobo Lobo does some cool poo poo.

On the other hand, with how many people have switched to phone browsers, fancy webcomics might be a harder sell these days.

El Goonish Shive may be juggling like eight times the plot devices than it needs, but dammit I started reading that poo poo in 2004 and I can't back out now. Also, frankly, I just really like Susan.

Tumblr's mobile app is hilariously bad. Basic post formatting fucks up, half the time images just refuse to load (except the ads), crashes on the regular, that thing where it arbitrarily follows or unfollows blogs for you. Audio posts that use Soundcloud just... don't work. I could go on.

Getting a Tumblr to read comics is probably a bad idea, but if you already using a Tumblr it's a nice way to keep track.

I think we should all take fifteen minutes out of our busy lives to look back on the webcomics of our youth, the ones we abandoned or forgot or never read in the first place. See if they're still around. Did those long runners ever get a conclusion, or did the authors just give up on their schedule, or are they still going?

All the Sluggy Freelance stuff made me curious, it looks like General Protection Fault, Kevin & Kell, and Megatokyo, for example, are all somehow still kicking.

When the punchline to your comic is 'the villain of this plot, a sapient thinking person, was eaten by the toddler, lol' poo poo gets kind of weird. Also a cabal of rabbits start making guns because they're tired of being eaten. This is seen as evil by the entire cast. Including Kevin, a rabbit. Murder is okay as long as you eat the corpse.

LiveJournal got bought out by Russians and started mass-banning communities that had 'objectional content'. Which is why everyone evacuated to Tumblr in the first place.

The length and pacing of Girl Genius is such that I only go back to it every few months or so but dammit if I don't love the goofy-rear end pulp setting and jaegerz and all the characters. And the names. Like "Gilgamesh Wulfenbach" is a bomb-rear end name for conquering someone.

So in like 19 years and 1500 comics, has Fred Gallagher managed to resolve a single story thread? Well, he Kickstarted the Megatokyo Visual Novel in 2013, and the last update for that was in 2017 where they're 'totally definitely working on it for sure'

So, no.

nine-gear crow posted:

Is Megatokyo still updating? The last page it posted was back in August after seemingly consistent updates prior to that. Or is it known for taking extended hiatuses like that?

Okay apparently he's been dealing with a family health crisis for a few months, it was resolved only very recently.

Back in, like, 2006 or something they released a few pseudo-podcasts from their comic brainstorming sessions and it was pretty clear that Tycho's job is less about writing the comic and more about tackling Gabe whenever he has an opinion. The PR guy's job is, presumably, tacking Tycho.

Digger is this magical sort of thing where it hits the landing well enough, that it's possible to think Ursula Vernon actually planned the story rather then inventing characters literally on the same page they're introduced.

Ursula Vernon's also written adult novels, under the name T. Kingfisher. I don't think she does much painting any more but there's some absolutely insane poo poo in her Deviantart, and I think you can still buy prints.

I know she designed Monster Kid, and at least a few others. Checking the credits, she's also responsible for Snowdrake, Ice Cap, Gyftrot, and Vulkin. Possibly other things.

Muffet was designed by a different webcomic author, Michelle Czajkowski of Ava's Demon.

So everyone's favourite cat-based St Louis 1920's crime drama Lackadaisy is getting a Kickstarter for a 100 page book of unpublished work, mini comics, sketches, etc. Also a ten minute animated short. So that's neat!

Girl Genius' steampunk wizardry includes poo poo like time travel and mind-control wasps and I think maybe space travel (is Skifander Mars? I think Skifander might be Mars) becoming your own mother would be tricky but probably not out of the scope of the series.
