Bernie Sanders is a good politician. He wants the socialism, like UHC, $15 minimum and ending the prohibition of weed. His messaging toward people of color wasn't good but I hope he fixes that the next time he runs for president. I think he can be convinced to support a basic income, too. I would really like a basic income for everyone.

More importantly, I think Bernie has learned what went wrong with his messaging to people of color. It was embarrassingly bad in the '16 primary, and yet younger people of color basically forgave him for it. That's amazing in itself. He's going to fix that messaging this time, and combined with what we now know of america's distaste for Hillary and centrists in general, he's going to have some serious momentum. Not even the DNC rigging the system will slow him down.

A man, who needs to ration his walmart brand insulin vials because the only health care he can afford has huge out of pocket deductibles, briefly scans his voter's pamphlet, his hand shaking from the hypoglycemia taking hold. Democrats he's never heard of fill the list, each making fig-leaf promises to make health care affordable, but Bernie Sanders stands out, offering a single payer solution that makes health care accessible to everyone. In a bout of dizziness and sweat, he takes his time to carefully turn the page without dropping or ripping the pamphlet. A grimace contorts his face when he scans Bernie's brief profile. "Nah, too old." He marks the spot on his ballot for Hillary Clinton, the only other name in politics he knows of in the past 40 years of his existence. The damp absentee ballot crumbles as he jams it into the envelope. He grips his chest tightly as he makes the long walk to his mailbox. Each step gets heavier and heavier, and just as the mailbox is within his sight, a terrible pain grips his entire body. He hits the ground with a thud, his balled up ballot gently rolling down his gravel driveway. As daylight turns to darkness, his last thoughts are of his car, a weathered and rusted pontiac firebird he left sitting in the front yard. "It only needs a tune-up" he murmurs, before the last ray of light leaves his eyes.

If the internal division is great enough, it is worth bucking the general for another candidate. If your only choice left is two flavors of evil, it makes sense to deny both in favor of a good, even if it means the most evil wins. Choosing the lesser evil does not make them the good option.

The +2 favorability to UBI among the white working class is a good sign, I think. Even if it's part of a margin for error, I expected that to be heavy negative.

I personally have trouble reading PJ's word salad and rely on the kindness of goons to simplify her arguments. Also I'm not sure how much credit she should get for predicting the rise of the alt-right when I've been occasionally reading 4chan's /pol/ since Obama was elected and saw them form in real time. Like, it was really obvious. It's like pointing out an acorn properly planted would grow into a tree.

It seems absurd to hold accountable large swaths of voters over a 16 year gap. So much has changed between then and now. Also, it was the supreme court that helped Bush win. They knew exactly what would happen. They get the blame for doing this to themselves.

I think not talking about the shooting in the uspol thread was a good thing, because the gun control debate tends to override whatever other discussions were being had and gets incredibly messy every single time. Closing it may or may not have been a good decision, but it depends on where the future of this thread and the trump thread goes. I will probably never step foot in the trump thread because no matter how well it's moderated, there are simply too many posts about the same things every day that it makes it hard to read. Getting people to post less in it has not been something any moderator has attempted to address. I'm in favor of renaming this thread as the socialist thread, because that's the umbrella most of us operate under here.

WampaLord posted:It was fun watching them flip from "fine, we don't need your worthless lefty votes" to "you loving lefties and your purity tests costs us the election!" I don't remember the "we don't need your votes" lasting that long, it was after the primary they were already heavily leaning on the "you loving lefties" just out of sheer gamesmanship. Because politics is about the winning team rubbing it in the faces of the losing team, not about making the country better.
