Figured I'd wait a day before updating and logging in to see how things are. Didn't lose a single character name and my bugged meditation chamber regen item is still bugged. I don't know if the changes to the cartel market happened with this patch or before it but HOLY poo poo they put a whole lot of stuff up in there. Finally got a cathar honor sword and a gamorrean axe so a dual wielding axes bare chested Sith Berserker's now a possibility. Snagged a set of Thana Vash's armor for the hell of it and currently debating picking up the tusken armor too for why not.

The devs are already talking about 6.0 which I imagine would be a end of this year release so they're planning at least a year out anyways.

Not sure where the story goes from here, it's time for a new big bad and story companions...Vitiate/Revan/Lana/Theron are done. It'd be nice if the rest of the 5.0 time was spent tearing down the Alliance as a sort of soft-reset because the quicker the game moves past KotFE/KotET the better.

Whatever the next story is hopefully it has less droids, less corridors, and characters who actually have a connection to the existing world.

To be honest, I'm kinda wondering if it'll be possible to skip doing KotFE/ET when whatever story arc that follows gets released because I'm just not feeling it with running some of my roster through it. While I don't see why it'd be an issue to skip it, part of me keeps thinking of how pissy Bioware gets when the playerbase isn't in full adoring it mode.

And if the guild bank still needs Dark Projects, I can see what I've been sitting on to donate. Granted I've not been on much lately, but I've put myself on hiatus aside from some futzing around on the auction house or buying on the cartel market because what I thought was 'time to get new glasses' ended up turning into 'surprise, you're developing cataracts' and I'm kinda stuck with not being able to see for poo poo until my first surgery next week.

Since one of my major complaints with SWTOR (and Bioware in general, really) is excessive companion bloat, I mostly will be looking towards not recruiting/killing off companions who aren't romanced or aren't personal faves since all I need is just one to chuck heals at me when I need them. Since some of the romanced have kill off options, that pretty much has me not able to just skip the Zakuul stuff, and I've been wanting to kill off Kaliyo, Skadge and Corso since my characters first encountered them as well.

Looking around, I guess Dulfy's the closest to having a list of choices with repercussions for KotFE/FT.

I encountered an annoying bug/glitch earlier. I was working on leveling my last character who's not 70 yet and when I went to click the ship's holoterminal to advance things, it sort of stuck in the cutscene. It did load Servant One, his holoimage did it's usual flicker, but nothing else and no dialog or dialog wheel. I rebooted, did a repair on the game, and even uninstall/reinstalled it to no effect. I filed a ticket and made a new Warrior in case it turns out my other one's unfixable.

I do have to admit, I like the look of the Ancient Sith Warblade, swinging it around keeps making me feel like my Warrior should be diving into battle yelling "Blood and Souls for my Lord Arioch!'.

I think SWTOR still pops near the top on a search for 'worst f2p model' even after all this time.

As far as buying coins, biggest incentive for me was the buy X amount-get a pet. But then, I have a bit of an unhealthy addiction collecting pets.

I really don't understand why. The pure F2P model in SWTOR allows you to have access to all of the original story, and you maintain access to all expansion story content when you drop your sub and go to Preferred.

The cash shop is all cosmetic, nothing is Pay 2 Win. There is endgame content that you're locked out of if you don't subscribe (Raids, Ranked PvP), but I would expect that.

I think SWTOR has one of the BEST F2P models. Sure there's annoying pop ups and you can't play Space Barbie, but you get 100% unrestricted access to stories.

I think a fair chunk of it is when they debuted the f2p model, it really was the worst implementation and with the internet and gamers being what they are, it still has that bad taste even though they have revamped the model over the years along with the other game changes. Granted, it's been a while since I was on a f2p/preferred, but I mostly remember being a bit salty over the limited resses and gear restrictions (back when companions had thier own gear and sometimes you had to choose between upgrade for you or them). I still wouldn't consider SWTOR having one of the best f2p models but they've definitely made some very good progress improving it over the years.

A good many player generateds were essentially shoot wave of ships-gather loot for vendoring/auction, and of course there's loads designed for ERP.

As far as SWTOR goes, it's pretty much a given that there'd be tons of TLJ rewrites along with prequel rewrites, I think there's enough people who'd be interested in trying to branch out into something other than the usual Star Wars format.

How would you change it? How would you make the F2P more attractive without losing subscribers?

Would it really be so horrible if the game lost a good amount of the 'Ewww, how dare those disgusting f2p poors just suggest the restrictions they have get reevaluated. If they were a True Fan of the game they'd've been subbing all along since beta. If they had to unsub because money got tight because their kid got sick, well, they should've thought about that before having a kid.' and 'Reeeeeee! How dare Bioware put items from retired lockboxes up on the Cartel Market for just anyone to go buy. Now I can't wave my e-peen around to look down on those filthy causals who clearly aren't devoted to the game like I am with having gone through so many lockboxes to get the item early.' types?

We've seen those types of loudmouths on the forums and granted we have no idea of what the playerbase numbers are beyond that one breakdown of how many character types have been created, I'd like to think there's enough of a silent majority who would be perfectly fine with revisions to the f2p/premium model. To me, LOTRO has one of the best f2p models. https://www.lotro.com/en/Full-VIP-Chart Hell, if you're steady enough to knock out deeds, you're awarded Turbine points you can go buy what you're missing from the LOTRO store. I've pretty much bought all my expanded storage and a mount just from being a deed completing madwoman. If they revised f2p with things like allowing hide hats, increased toolbars, removed gear restrictions since even if you're not raiding, having nice gear to make the regular questing comfortable is still a major factor, that would be an excellent start. Keep the endgame and PvP stuff behind a sub.

As Polyakov said, the current f2p model does come across petty. Things like restricting toolbars and gear pretty much hampers being effectively able to play your class. While hide hat is really minor on the scale of things, it's another dig since it's another steady reminder of 'not one of the Subscriber Elite' when each cutscene rolls around. But some revisions to bring things more into line with what's expected with a reasonable f2p model along with actually pumping out some commercials when a Star Wars film gets released would boost numbers. Make the f2p fun with the pitch of 'you liked the movie, so look at this game where you can be that dashing smuggler, a badass bounty hunter, or swing the ravesticks of death around.'. Throw in the option of being able to play a wookie and there you go.

The line about LOTRO I think emphasizes what a good F2P model should strive for: to keep as many people running the treadmill as possible. MMOs don't feel like MMOs when they are hemorrhaging players and you can't find anyone to group with. To that end, the F2P model needs to be capable of keeping free players on the hook and doing whatever version of grind the MMO in question has. It needent necessarily be painful, but it should leave them wanting more such that paying for a subscription looks like a better use of their time. The Filthy Poors™ can continue to poop-sock for their prizes, but if your time in game is worth $15/hour, it probably makes more sense to subscribe and take the shortcut.

But bottom line: no one will subscribe to a game that looks dead, so your F2P model should focus on making your game look not-dead.

For as much as people like to rip on LOTRO for being as old as it is and on maintenance mode, even with how many went over to the Legendary servers, with the winter Frostbluff event, it was so packed at times they had to cut back on loading up the distance graphics to the full just to try to minimize lag. Since I'm figuring my Warrior with the bugged holoterminal is probably a lost cause at this point especially with googling around and not hearing of anyone having the same problem getting fixed, I've started a replacement. Other than Korriban, Dromond Kaas, Fleet, and Nar Shadda, I barely saw anyone else. Alderaan I think I saw maybe two other people. Even chat was pretty dead save for Kaas, Fleet and Nar Shadda.

Last time I looked, I remember seeing some of those account unlocks getting posted on the GTN at prices I really couldn't see someone on f2p able to afford them with the escrow system.

I'd be all for something in place where it was just a matter of really putting in the effort/work, you could earn what's covered in the account unlocks, but there is a particularly strong attitude (classism?) look down on anyone who isn't a sub. It reminds me of what happened with a local fan run convention by me some years back. They've often grumbled with making ends meet and all, but right around the time Game of Thrones was really hitting it big with the show, they managed to get GRR Martin as Master of Ceremonies, but did absolutely zero promotion about this other than some word of mouth in the nerd communities. When I mentioned to an acquaintance who's on the staff with the con about if they'd promoted it more that they had Martin, they'd have lines around the block, she gave me a look that I would've expected from some upper class type with suggesting they invite a poo poo shoveller to come to dinner. It's pretty much the same thing with SWTOR, people whine about player numbers with being able to do group stuff, but God forbid any changes get made to draw in anyone new unless they're a sub.

For as much as the 'story makes no sense if you're not a force user's' been said, was there anything like that said in the story version of the Taral V flashpoint since you end up hearing the force entity's comments without Oteg's help? I think I hit the longest it's taken for a ticket/bug report to get resolved. Around a year or two back I bought the meditation chamber regen item from the Cartel Market and bugged out with binding to the character when used but not unlocking to collections. Filed a ticket where I got the usual of they knew it was a bug going around and while they'd forward things to the tech guys, for me to file a bug report. Never heard anything back from it, kept checking to see if the item got fixed. Quit the game for a while and coming back, I checked the item and it was still bugged. Today I checked and it unlocked fine. I'm just happy to get the thing unlocked to my account at this point.

Checked the forums and a lot of other people were having the same issue with the item. Pretty much with the ticket I filed way back I was asking if they could at least unlock it to my collections since it was at least reflecting bound when I used it and I know coin refunds are out of the question. I never deleted it since I spent coins on the drat thing so I left it sit in my inventory gathering dust with checking every other login if they got it fixed. Granted it did make me hesitant about buying things off the Market in case something else got bugged. When I resubbed last month, I gave it a try and nothing, been trying it off and on until it finally unlocked to collections proper today so I could account unlock it.

Yeah, it took them way long to get it resolved, and for all I know when they fixed one thing, somehow it fixed my issue considering how spaghettied the code is, but I'm content that it's finally fixed more than looking for some recompense for how long it took.
