Can’t see until Sunday, so I’ll see you all Sunday night? The last thread was pretty good, yeah.

I wasn’t a fan of TFA at all. Good cast, love bb-8. I love Kylo as the vader cosplaying manchild antagonist, but that was about it.

Lotta things I wanna talk about anyone down with making a spoiler thread?

It’s definitely more Disney-esque. As someone else mentioned it’s just way too campy. TFA had a nice balance but this one was definitely next level with that. Far better than TFA though.

Like the whole theme of the movie starts with very serious matters and then immediately into a funny non-serious undertone with the radio chatting with Poe at the start and the Luke throwing the saber

love that the sword fights are slower like they’re swinging something and more realistic; not crazy ninja poo poo from episode 1-3

It’s Star Wars and the whole deal with the force/dark side is finding balance and flip flopping but that’s literally all the movie is. That aspect wasn’t even enjoyable because it wasn’t a surprise, you were just waiting for the next unsurprising turn I’m not talking solely about any character going good-bad, just the movie in general

Enjoyable, wonky-ish story (for Star Wars)?will watch again, good action, far better than TFA, R1 still reigns supreme

Leia getting blasted into space then flying was done really poorly. I'm not against her being able to do that, but the special effects of that scene look like a b tier 1950s sci fi film.

Yeah I hear ya. I know inthe non-canon expanded universe her force powers surface and she becomes a Jedi? Kinda lame they didn’t even explain wtf

lol how come that wasn’t an option earlier though? I didn’t get that. I get it’s Star Wars—I mean it was futile for her anyway why wasn’t it the first thought..? Maybe I missed something. And how many loving [spoiler]transport shipsdid they have. Jesus it was like the fast and the furious and shifting, it kept going back and forth and was still happening

If that's your take on Kylo, then I want to know what the hell movies you've been watching. Throwing temper tantrums is not something an ultimate bad rear end does.

yeah and that's why his character is one of the few redeeming things of this whole thing. He's a gigantic manbaby that cosplays Vader. I mean, it's pretty transparent about that

honestly my biggest issue with the movie was: how many god drat transport ships did they have going to that planet

kylo ren is saved by a good actor

he's supposed to be a whiny bitch. The actor is good, definitely. But I mean, that's intentionally been his whole character arc the whole time. I love it because it pisses people off that he's not Vader....and that's the point of it all. I mean who knows what happens next film

I was just joking because for a long time there it kept switching scenes to mother fuckers getting blown out of space, switch scene, back to oh hey more of them getting blown up

also is this the first time we've ever seen the royal guards actually do something

I was waiting for them to show up in some capacity as well. Wonder if they'll be in the next one

Need a second viewing but about all the force poo poo:

so pretty much they realized they're a bit of fanatic/cultists and simply extreme on one end of the spectrum? It's not sustainable? I suppose a light Jedi mindset is too arrogant and just not having the mindset of failure as an option? Old dog new tricks? I know the expanded universe has a gray jedi or some poo poo that is a balance between the two, which is where this is going I assume; which some predicted. When the poster dropped everyone was arguing whether Jedi was plural or not, (i know it's mentioned to be plural at some point somewhere)

I do appreciate that Rey's parents are nobody, and that there wasn't some big reveal where Snoke turns out to be some guy from one of the books or something. Way too many nerds working out ~*theories*~ trying to related things to the extended universe when it's pretty obvious that they're explicitly not doing that.

Movie definitely should have been trimmed down by at least half an hour.

ehhh I dig the Rey angle but tbh I think they're just hand waving that away for now so they can bring it back later. There's no way they're just going to leave the Rey parents bit with that. She's still somehow Obi-wans kid or some bullshit. Also snoke coming and going without fanfare is cool but I'd still like to know who the gently caress he was and everything between

loving love that little x-wing maneuver Poe does after destroying that turret. We haven't really seen an x-wing move like that yet and it's very Battlestar Galactica-esque with the Vipers, so that's cool

and gently caress just the whole opening scene and bombers owns. I do love how much they integrate weaponry and such from now and the last 50-100 years. Especially in R1

It seemed that Luke channeled the force so strongly he didn't have anything left in the tank; he burned out and became one with the force. His force apparition was visible to every person (and droid) present, and presumably showed up on the AT-AT targeting sensors. It also had some aspect of teleportation; Luke brought Leia the space dice he cribbed from the Millennium Falcon. That presumably took more out of him than lifting something heavy.

On a rewatch I noticed Kylo say “you’re not doing this, it would kill you” when him and Rey first meet in the Snoke induced whatever

I figured that was a bit of foreshadowing to Luke’s death. I mean, Rey’s not Luke, but yeah

The Boba Fett phenomenon is hilarious. Did anyone give a gently caress about him until like 1995? I bought into it but I was 9 and he had cool armor and a jet pack. Plus they always found a way to weasel him into the video games

Gray Jedi was a convo option in KOTOR I think? Basically saying that trying to cut things like "love" out of the human psyche because it might lead to anger being loving stupid. Basically, it embraced emotions while saying you should still be the master of them, not vice versa, because emotions are what make people people.

My take on Luke wanting to burn down the jedi order was basically more that it was too ossified and beholden to tradition, witness their inability to stop poo poo like the Emperor when they had the resources of the entire republic at their finger tips. And that generally the force seeks balance, so if you have a a bunch of super hardcore light side Jedi, you will get a bunch (or a few REALLY powerful) dark side Sith to balance them out.

oh poo poo yeah I completely forgot about the love part and no marriage etc, everything else you said makes sense. Regardless, the EU being non-canon is great because I'm having a laugh at all the nerds--hell could have happened in the EU I suppose, I didn't read that poo poo--losing it. ALL THOSE YEARS AND BOOKS READ  As much as I nit-pick this space soap opera I do like the above angle, as I'm sure it surprised most. As well, they killed everyone in Rogue 1, which was cool and surprisingly unexpected, especially for Disney. Kylo is the anti-antagonist whiny manchild cosplaying Vader. I could have done with a proper Ackbar farewell and Snoke explanation but I'll not beat the dead horse of the latter

At any rate do people really think there's nothing more to Finn and Rey? Like that's it? The one storm trooper to ever defect (that I know about) and feel emotion and become a rebel was taken from his parents at a young age and there's nothing more? Come on. This is likely just hand waved for the story but he also whooped on Captain Phasma, and fought Kylo with a saber; Rey was knocking fools out on Jakku before becoming a jedi

And Rey is just a nobody? Pfff. Both back stories are already written and will be expanded about in the future i'm sure. Hell, we're gonna have Star Wars-esque movies for the rest of our lives. My completely random thought is that Obi-Wan is somehow involved, but I have no idea how. idk, there has to be something there from the previous movies related to both of them

Also Rose sucks and Finn should have died/sacrificed himself with the cannon. At the end Rey and Kylo still have that force connection but Snoke is dead? I know he said he bridged their minds, but I assume we'll be seeing more of that, and the 3rd installment will be Kylo turning at the last second and saving the day a la Vader
