IIRC that's from a super old version, the app store is no longer integrated into the watch apps, complications are configured per face.

Something weird I've noticed own my SE and I think its a bug.

Every so often I'll look at my watch and I'll see for a second the orange microphone icon light up then go away.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Have you been twisting your wrist in a handwashing/jerk off motion? It might be handwashing detection. It watches for the twisting of the wrist, and then when it detects that, it listens for running water and the squelching of soap.

I've found really over emphasising the twist in the wrist, and making sure the water is nice and splashy tends to make it work.

I'm torn on which Apple Watch I'd like to get - Stainless Steel Series 8, or Ultra. For context, in the past I've had an aluminum Series 0, and an aluminum Series 4. The Ion-X glass on my S4 got covered in micro-scratches so I would appreciate the sapphire glass on the higher-end models.

The Stainless Steel would be the 'classier' option, and could more easily integrate with about any outfit.

The Ultra would more closely match my 'default' style (when I'm wearing a normal watch, 95% of the time it's a G-Shock), and I love the chunky/ruggedized look. My main intended fitness use case is hiking, so that syncs up too. But I feel like any attempts to dress the watch up would be awkward at best.

Also, what do you all think about AppleCare on the higher end models - do the more durable materials make it less 'worth it'? I had AC+ on my aluminum S4 and never actually needed it, but it was nice knowing it was there whenever I accidentally banged into a doorknob.

I'd still get AC+ tbh

I know that on my Ti S6, I actually have a better deal for AC+, as Edition watches came with 2 years of warranty, so my S6 still has coverage until next year

Apple's leather goods are hot trash (barring the Hermes models but I don't think those come in black and they're priced as high fashion brand items in any case) and if you want a leather strap, you're better off searching Amazon or Etsy. There's lots of options for those.

I like the braided loops a lot but sizing is a pain.

My leather loop is pretty okay, but they discontinued that band and only have leather link now.

The short version is officially you can’t trade watch bands without returning the entire purchased watch. Whether or not a specialist in store does the trade is something they won’t say and you should definitely not post “thanks to Mike at store 123 for trading the band”

I've run out of options, so I'm going to ask here.
(Yes, I've Googled/DuckDuck'd every possible solution and combination, and of course all the obvious things are the way they should be.)

Why in the hell can I make my Watch notify me with a vibration and a sound when a Calendar event is triggered, but the phone won't while [they're both] on DND Focus due to the mirroring?

Of course, the phone will have a banner, but won't vibrate or play a sound, even though I've enabled that in "Allowed Notifications" under DND Focus, made sure notifications come through via "Notifications," hosed with "Sound and Haptics" or whatever, but the only thing that will audibly alert while in DND is the Watch.
How is this possible?

I was going to ask in the iPhone thread, but they seem to be talking about other stuff.

I tried to cheat and replaced Calendar.app with the Google Calendar app, but I get the exact same result.
Why would the Watch vibrate and make a noise while in DND, but the phone won't?

On the DND "Allowed Contacts," the phone will still ring if they're a favorite, or an allowed person, so obviously the phone will make a noise while in DND (not to mention the alarm obviously still works) if you tell it to, but why won't it do it for Calendar events? Does it just only make a sound/vibrate if it's a phone call? That's like the only possibility, because I'm 99.9% sure I've tried everything. :suicide:

edit: Or is this just not possible? But if you look at it logically, it *should* work with the given permissions. I'm up to Test 12, and nothing has worked. Can someone please tell me I'm not losing my mind here?

edit2: I forgot, since forever, I've had the phone make noise when I get a text from someone who is "on the list."
I don't think the Calendar events thing is possible. c/d?

edit3: Seriously, last edit. Why would the Watch break through the wall of DND the way I have it set set up, but the phone won't. Alerts from Fitness, and like I said, Allowed Apps and Contacts and the like also break through. Am I missing something? :shobon:

to clarify, do you mean with the phone off or on? when your iPhone is locked, only calls will show up and make noise with an Apple Watch on your wrist. All other notifications will go through your watch. once you unlock your phone, then your watch won’t notify

While it's noticeable bigger, it's way less than anticipated based on aforementioned examples. Luckily.

It’s a combination of everyone online having noodle wrists, and Apple I suspect intentionally using noodle wristed models for the Ultra advertising.

Since it really isn’t that much bigger than the big regular one, they needed to emphasize the size somehow, so using a smaller wrist person for the product shots makes it feel bigger

So in the USA, the only way I can get an Apple Watch that measures SpO2 at this point is if I buy a used model that was purchased before the early 2024 cutoff (which can be verified by certain characters in the model number)? Change of ownership on an old model doesn't affect this?

Additionally, if you need to have it warrantied for any reason, you'll likely lose SpO2, since Apple Watch warranties are all hardware swaps.

Apple’s permitted to bring in functional SpO2 watches for service/repair and for warranty replacement. (This doesn’t 100% mean you won’t lose SpO2, since what they’re permitted to do is distinct from what they’ll actually do, but the actual judgment provided them with this ability.)

everything that I've seen is that warranty swaps end up as SpO2-disabled ones
