Music: Monochrome

Welp. That happened. Let's not go through the lobby directly and instead go around the second floor.

While we're here, let's see what this tape is about.

Music: Straight Chaser

Use mysterious cassette tape on cassette deck

It goes the same as last chapter except you don't have to fix the tape. The A side is the same as before, just with a different song. And that song?

Music: Countdown

That's actually a nice continuation of the previous joke. What about side B?

(The code)
What the hell? That must mean something...

The code is randomized. Oh, and if we try to fast-forward here the same scene as before will play, but nothing else will happen. You can still play the tape and you don't get a Game Over.

Music: Monochrome

If we go to the right hallway from here, we'll get that same Game Over with Dunning, so let's not.

Knob

I'm sneaky when I need to be.
I don't doubt it!
The apple painting is in the back. Go on, now!
I'm on it.
I'm just going to wait here with Mila, if that's all right by you.

Music: Hangover Blues
Now hurry up and go look at that painting!

Music: Secrets
Hey, you got a minute?
...

Music: Monochrome

Knock No one's here. Or else they don't want to talk to some stranger.

Who do you think would be here, Kyle? I'm curious. Anyway, we can go in there.

Music: Straight Chaser

Closet Now that is a big closet. Maybe this is the room where fat guys stay.

Mirror Mirror's so clean I can see myself. ...'Course, it IS a mirror.
Bottles It's a bottle of shampoo.
Light There's a light above the mirror. Smart thinking, that.
Sink Sink's clean.
Towel Towels have been freshly changed.
Bathtub Looks like the bathtub's spic-and-span.
Curtain Got a shower curtain around the tub.
Tissue It's toilet paper. Good thing, too, this being a bathroom and all.
Toilet Another toilet. I'm gonna assume it's clean.

Lamp There's even a desk lamp.
Desk There's a small desk in the corner of the room.
Chair Now that looks like a cozy chair.

Bed Bed's nice and neat. Looks comfy, too.
Curtain Curtains are pulled shut.
Table Side tables on both sides. That's a bed built for two.
Phone And next to the bed is a telephone. Great for wake-up calls.
Lamp There's a small lamp on the table.
AC It's an air conditioner. Not that it's needed in December, but...
Painting What do you know, it's a still-life painting.

Zoomed-in painting It's an apple painting.

The same letter-searching minigame ensues.

(That's all of the hidden letters.)
(I wonder what they mean?)

If we quit Kyle will remind us of where we found each letter. What we have to do is to tap the letter in order of the number of apples in the respective paintings. But tapping the wrong letter gives no response and there's only very few combination that make sense.

(...JENNY?)
(If I arrange them in order of the number of apples in each painting, it spells... JENNY.)
(Jenny...)
(Wait, I've seen that name before... It was on the birthday card I found in Dunning's office.)

So that's all of the apple paintings. There's actually new notes added last update.

Music: So Noted

I waited for this update to see if there's going to be one for the single apple, but apparently not. So let's go back and tell Rosa what we found.

What now?

Mila!
MILA! OH, MILA!
Oh dear! Oh dear, oh dear, oh NO! What do we do? What do we do? She's not breathing! I can't hear her!
What?!
Do something! Do something, Mr. Hyde! Help the poor girl! Help Mila!

What do we do! What do we do! :derp:

You've got put your face next to hers, Mr. Hyde.

You missed a "to" there, Rosa, which is unusual for you. Other than that, nice advice. Let's do that. Remember Melissa's puzzle and how we closed the lid of the DS to "flip" it? Same principle here.

The gap here makes Kyle's arm look strange.

Not using gap makes Kyle's arm look much better, but the background clash pretty terribly.

...Uhh... Ahh... ...Don't... ...Take... ...Jen...ny...

:aaaaa:

Holy crap. She's talking.
...Uhhh...
...Mila! Dear, your voice...
...I... I...
Oh, what a blessing! This is a true miracle! Mila, you can speak again! Your voice has returned!

...I...I...
You OK? What's wrong?
...I...remember...

This is the closest we're going to get to a confrontation with Mila (spoilers), so we're going to treat this like one.

I remember...

Mila? Sweetie? Dear, how did you lose your voice? It's OK, you can tell Rosa.
...I...
Mila? Hey, take it easy. Just tell me what happened.

Music: Rainy Night

This is actually the first time we can read/write note with Mila. Mila has no new reponses to previous items

What did you remember?

What do you remember?
...I was...playing with her. ...In this room.
This room? You've been here before?
...Yes.
Are you sure?
Please, dear. Answer Mr. Hyde.
Who were you playing with in here?

...I was with... Jenny...

Like before, we'll be continuing with each line of questioning before moving on.

Who's Jenny?

Who's Jenny?
...A girl... ...A friend I met here... My friend... Papa said... Stay and wait... With Jenny... So...we played... But Jenny...she...she...
Someone took her. Didn't they? Who was it?
A...man... A strange man...with a scary face...

Where's your father?

Mila, where is your father?
...I don't know. ...The gallery was gone... So...we came here... Papa and me...came here...
How long have you been looking for him?
...A long time...

When did you wake up?

When did you wake up?
...Don't know... I was...asleep. For...a long...time... Then they told me... I... I just woke up...

What do you mean, "like that time"?

What did you mean when you said "like that time"?
...That time everything...went dark...
It went dark?
...When I was...waiting...for Papa.
Mila, when was this?
...When...I was...nine...
So how old are you now?

Mila! Answer him! How old are you?
...Nineteen. ...That's...what they said...
Someone had to tell you? Who? Who said that?

What happened, Mila?
...I don't know. It was because...I was...over there for a long time...

Over there? Where's that?

You said you were over there. Where is that?
...Robbins Hospital. ...I woke up. I was...in a bed. ...No one was there... ...So I tried to call for... For Papa... ...But I..couldn't speak.

And your mother? Sweetie, where was she during all this?
...Mom...wasn't there... She was...in a crash... A plane crash.

I... I waited...for Papa...for a long time... But...Papa...never came.
So...
So you came here?
(Yes)

Why couldn't you speak?

How did you lose your voice?
...I was...scared... ...Jenny was crying... Jenny said..."help me"...
...I was...scared...

Music: Secrets
Oh, Mila! You poor, poor girl!
You must be tired! Let's get you back to Rosa's room! It's OK! I'm going to take good care of you!
Mr. Hyde, I'm going to see to it that this little girl gets the rest she needs! You'll have to ask her about your paintings later!
...Why not. Nothing else has gone according to plan tonight.

Mila and Rosa leave.

Music: Monochrome

We can finally examine this room.

Music: Straight Chaser

Mirror It'a a mirror. And boy, am I ever pretty.
Brochure There's a hotel brochure on top of the fridge.
Fridge It's one of them mini-fridges.
TV Even the TV's a newer model. Maybe I should've stayed here.
Drawer There's a small storage space under the TV.
Lamp That's quite a tall lamp in the corner of the room.

Painting Look at that. Another painting that's not dogs playing poker.
Left sofa A leather couch? Is this the suite Dunning was trying to talk to me into?
Lamp There's a small lamp in the corner of the room.
Tea set There's even a tea set on the table.
Table Check out the table in front of the sofa. Looks pricey.
Right sofa Bet that sofa cost a pretty penny.

Frame Looks like Dunning framed the Hotel Dusk mission statement or something.
Table It's a round table. Wonder where King Arthur and his knights are.
Chair It's a chair.
Shelf A minibar with booze? I'm moving in.
Stand That's one heck of a hat stand. Wish I had a fedora to throw at it.

That's all in Room 111. So we go outside.

Mr. Hyde? I'm sorry, I couldn't sleep, and I overheard...

I've...I've felt better. But I think the worst is over. At least, I hope...
Yeah, me too.
Did something happen? You seem tired.
I am tired. But I'll live.
...In that case, can I... Can I trouble you for a moment? I need to ask you something.
I'm not loaning you money.

Ha ha. Very funny, Kyle. That's more suited to a character in the sequel (very minor spoiler but whatever).

Music: Easy Feeling
You just came out of Room 111, right?
Yeah. What of it?
Well... Um... Were you with her?
With who?
The woman. The young woman in white? She just came out of that room with the maid.
You mean Mila?
...Mila.

What's your story?

You knew about Mila?

You know something? Spill it.
Yes, I just...
I just remembered something when I heard her name. Her name is Mila Evans.

(??? How do you know Mila? ???)

Music: Rainy Night

Read note
What are you looking at?
Write note

How do you know Mila?

How do you know Mila?
She was a patient at the hospital where I worked.
Interesting.
Yes... Robbins Memorial in Santa Monica.

You would've known if you paid attention, Kyle. Mila did mention the hospital name, after all.

But I never expected to see her here. Not at all...

(??? Why was Mila in the hospital? ???)

Why was she in the hospital?

What was she doing in the hospital?
It's an odd case. She was brought to us unconscious, with no visible injuries. She spent almost the next ten years in a coma...
Ten years? That's a long time to be in the dark.

So Mila is 19 years old but is mentally 9. That makes all of Kyle's comments about her being a little girl creepy... And Louie's crush on her too. Thankfully Louie will drop it after learning about this later, so he's not bad.

It sure is.
We didn't see any sign of hope, but then half a year ago she just...came around. The attending physician was astonished. He called her recovery a miracle... Not that I take stock in such things...

Then let me ask you something.

Did you know her family?

You know anything about her family?
Yes. Her father used to come in once a month and check on her progress. His visits were like clockwork.
He came once a month for ten years?
Without fail, but... But for some reason, he never appeared after she woke up.
Sounds like he picked a bad time to hang it up.
Yes, perhaps... We tried several times to contact him, but... He never returned our calls. Oh, and the bills. The bills had all been paid in advance. No one ever came to see her beside her father.
He may have no idea what has happened.
You ever meet her old man?
No, I just... I heard about it from the nurses and such.
Right.

Music: Easy Feeling
Oh, and Mr. Hyde?
I just remembered something else. If you can spare a moment...
Go ahead.
Do you remember the first time we met this evening? When I thought I had heard your name before?

That was way back in Chapter 3.

I just remembered why. I don't know how I missed it, but... Well, anyway... Right before Mila woke up, she had a new visitor.
Keep talking, doc.
His name...

Oh, you're kidding me.
When we couldn't reach Mila's father, we thought... I mean, the hospital, they tried to notify this Hyde fellow, but to no avail.
Mr. Hyde, did you visit Mila before she woke up?
Wasn't me.
...I see.
Well, please keep an eye on her.
And try to keep her from overdoing it. I can't imagine she has fully recovered her strength yet.
Excuse me.

Kevin leaves the lobby.

(So Kevin knew about Mila.)
(And Mila came out of a coma six months ago...)

*beeping sound*

...Pager, huh?

Music: Monochrome

Phone Guess I should give Ed a ring.

Music: Serenity

Wait, no Rachel?
Everybody's gotta go home sometime. Listen, I just heard a little chestnut about Evans. You sitting down? Ten years ago. Robert Evans bought himself a little place called... Hotel Dusk.
Robert Evans bought this hotel?
Yeah. Seems Evans bought the thing in 1969. He owned it for three years, then sold it to some mope for a song.
So he sold it seven years ago?
You must be tired, Hyde. You're repeating everything.

No, that's just how Kyle has been since the beginning of the game. Jeff even called him a parrot.

Anyway, he sold it to Dunning Smith. You probably met him by now. I don't know what you found here, Hyde, but that place has a troubled history.
Tell me.
Dusk used to be a real party joint, but in 1969 it just shut down. You follow me? Means Evans shut the place down the moment he bought it! Now why the hell would a guy do a thing like that? Who buys a business just to shut it down? And why'd he sell it to Dunning Smith? My thinking is that Evans played Smith and dumped the place, but I don't know. Lotsa questions here, Hyde. You might not like where this night of sleuthing ends up. I'd get ready for a bad surprise.

*knocking sound*

You got visitors at this hour? You're busier than I thought.

Well, I'll leave you to it. Watch your back.

Ed hangs up.

Yeah?

Music: Resolution (Yes, it uses the confrontation music)
Oh. Rosa. Now what?
Oh, Mr. Hyde, it's just terrible!
Rosa! Pull yourself together! What's going on?
It's Mila...
What about her?
She hasn't come back! He came and took her, and she hasn't come back! Mr. Smith came and took her away!
Dunning?
Yes! I was trying to take Mila back to my room, you know? And then Mr. Smith just came out of nowhere! He told me to take Mila to the police first thing in the morning. But then I... I told him. Oh, what a fool thing I did! I told him she could speak and that we knew why she had come here! Then he said there was no need to call the police at all! And then he said that he was going to have a little chat, and he took her away!
Wait, he took her?
Yes! Oh, what is going on?
Where are they?
I figured they went back to his room. But no one answers when I knock, and...
What should I do, Mr. Hyde?
Go back to your room and sit still. I'll go find them.
All right... If you say so.

Rosa turns and scurries off down the hall.

(Dunning and Mila are having a chat, huh?)
(I guess I should try his room first.)

Light He's got a light above the mirror.
Mirror Hey, now there's a handsome devil.
Bottles It's a bottle of shampoo.
Sink Sink's nice and shiny, Dunning sure is a neat freak.
Towels Clean towels. Nice.
Tissue It's toilet paper. Bet the old boy's got some nice two-ply stuff in here.
Toilet That's the cleanest toilet I've ever seen. Rosa must scrub in here, too.

Bed Dunning's bed. Bet it's not as lumpy as the one in my room.
Curtains Curtains are closed. Guess he doesn't want anyone peeking in the window.

Zoomed-in newspaper The date on the paper is 1972. ...That's seven years ago.

Overflowing with a sensibility that is subtle yet bold, these canvases charm easily. They can also capture the purest essence of a thing in a single fleeting moment. They can also capture the purest essence of a thing in a single fleeting moment. Must notably, the work Angel Opening a Door is a masterpiece. It so opens ambiguities in the viewer's powers of imagination that even a layman can..."
(Nice fifty-cent words, pal. I wonder if Summer wrote this. But why would Dunning keep a newspaper article on Osterzone?)

Zoomed-in brochure There's a hotel brochure on top of the desk.
This brochure...
(This is the same brochure Mila was carrying. The one from ten years ago. Why would Dunning have one of these, too?)

Music: Play It Again

There were five in all... Two on the first floor, and three on the second. I found one of the second-floor paintings in the hallway. And I found another one in my room. The last one on the second floor was in...

The utility closet
No, that ain't right. There's no apple painting in the utility closet.
Room 214
No, that ain't right. Room 214 was empty.

You know, good thing we got Room 215 since if someone else, like Helen for example, got that room, the apple hunt would be much harder.

Room 217

Music: Midnight
That's right. The last second-floor apple painting was in Room 217. I found five apple paintings in all.

Music: Play It Again

I had Rosa open Room 111 so I could look at the final painting. Then I rearranged the letters that I found in each of the paintings. Had to mix 'em up so they matched the number of apples in the paintings. When I finished, they spelled out the name...

HELEN
No, that ain't right. That wasn't the name the letters spelled out.
KEVIN
No, that ain't right. That's some other bird in this hotel.

JENNY

Music: Midnight
That's right. They spelled the name Jenny.

Music: Play It Again

I found Mila on the floor. Her breathing had stopped, so I had to give her mouth-to-mouth. When she came to, Mila was able to start talkin'. I grilled her for a bit and learned a few things. Like that she had been to this dump before with her father. When they came here, Mila was...

Nineteen years old
No, that ain't right. Nineteen is Mila's current age.
Thirty-three years old
No, that ain't right. That's my age.

Nine years old

Music: Midnight
That's right. Mila was nine years old when she came here with her old man. She made friends with a girl named Jenny.
Guess the shock of seeing Jenny get abducted put Mila in a coma.

Music: Play It Again

And she was in that coma for a long time. Kevin told me he knew her from his time at the hospital where she stayed. And the name of that hospital was...

Red Crown
No, that ain't right. Red Crown is the name of the company I work for.
Nile
No, that ain't right. Nile was the name of the criminal organization that Bradley infiltrated.

Robbins

Music: Midnight
That's it. She went to Robbins Memorial Hospital in Santa Monica. She only woke out of that coma six months ago.

Music: Play It Again

Then Ed called and told me about the hotel's previous owner. Seems Robert Evans bought the place ten years back, then dumped it on Dunning. Then Rosa showed and told me that Dunning had taken off with Mila. Dunning wasn't in his room, but I tossed the place anyway. I found something in his desk drawer. It was...

An old pamphlet
No, that ain't right. The old brochure was on top of the desk, not in it.
An old newspaper
No, that ain't right. The newspaper article about Osterzone's paintings was on top of the desk.

Birthday cards

Music: Midnight
That's right. I found a whole bunch of birthday cards. They were all addressed to Jenny. When I saw them all together like that, I figured it out. Jenny is the name of Dunning's daughter. The one Rosa told me about.

:monocle: I thought you didn't think of that since you didn't mention it in the actual chapter.

Music: Play It Again

What kind of shady dealings were they up to? Evans and Mila... Dunning and Jenny... Two men and their daughters. And what about the Kyle Hyde that paid Mila a visit? Was that you, Bradley?

Music: Silent Moon
Outside,in the L.A. night, the worst side of humanity has license to roam. And here? Inside this hotel? Am I going to find something that I don't want to see? I guess it doesn't matter. I'm getting close to the truth, Bradley. ...And to you.

Louie will appear only after getting 4 letters. The white question is optional. Oh, and since this is NG, Louie won't give us the mysterious cassette tape.

That's all that's new in this time period. Really. So let's do something else instead, like matchstick puzzles!

Even the matchstick puzzles are the same! :sigh:

Edit: gently caress it, I'm merging this with what should be the next update.

Music: Same as previous updates (Sapu)

Rosa is available only after asking the orange questions to Louie.

As I said before, trying to quit the minigame just gives hints on how to solve it. So this quit button won't actually work.

All right, this minigame. You actually have a time limit here.

[img][/img]

The background will turn black starting from the top. Once all of it turn black, this happens.

What are you waiting for? Hurry up! Oh my stars!

Wait some more and...

This makes no sense. I think they hosed up and got the sprite command for both of them swapped.

Music: Drunken Waltz (Really? This song? Not Countdown?)
WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!
Huh?

Music: Dream's End

Why couldn't I help Mila?
What have I done? Now I can't look for Bradley. Now I'll never...
Ah, what have I done...?

Hyde went back to his room and didn't come out until morning.

Dunning: 7
Rosa: 7
Louie: 6
Jeff: 6
Martin: 4
Iris: 3
Melissa: 2
Helen: 1
Kevin: 1

Welp. Mila pretty much just died. The Drunken Waltz really ruined the mood, though. Oh, and this also happens if you try to quit the minigame.

You have 30 seconds before Rosa tells you to hurry up and 10 more seconds before you fail. The timer stops when Rosa talks, so it's very lenient.

If we tap on Mila's body...

Music: Sapu
You've got put your face next to hers, Mr. Hyde.

If we tap outside Mila...

That's not going to do Mila any good!

If we repeatedly tap Mila's cheek...

It worked! :woop:

There's no choice in this "confrontation", so no Game Over.

Nothing to do here. So we quit the question screen.

Music: Insomnia
(...Hold it.)
(What did Kevin just say?)
...Mila.
...That's it. That was her name.
Kevin knew about Mila?

Music: Sapu

The pager won't ring until we finish talking to Kevin. So we do that.

And we're done with this time period. These alternate updates keep getting shorter.

Yep. The game doesn't explicitly say that it happened, but that's probably what happened. The Drunken Waltz really feel out of place with that in mind.

Hobgoblin2099 posted:

He does, which is what we did in the original timeline (by closing the lid). Touching her cheek seems to work too somehow.

The conversation with Ed and Rosa is the same.

Even though Kyle told Rosa to stay in her room, she's in 111 instead. I guess she wants to think of it as her room?

Music: Hangover Blues
Got a minute?
What is it? Mr. Hyde, I have a ton of work to do. I can't chat now! Busy, busy, busy!

I thought you were already finished with everything? Is this just leftover dialogue?

Music: Sapu

This is also the same.

We can actually do something new in here.

Not with the picture, though. That gives nothing new.

Fridge That's a pretty big refrigerator.

Paint There's a glass bottle in the refrigerator.

(There's a blue sludge inside the bottle. What the hell's this?)
(...I think this is paint.)

You mentioned this 2 chapter ago, Kyle.

I obtained this paint offscreen in the main timeline.

You need to look at these three things to exit Dunning's room.

The quiz itself is the same, with Kyle still mentioning mouth-to-mouth even though he just touched Mila's cheek in this timeline. Oh, and he get clonked after that, too.

Chapter 9 Summary

There's no summary for the last chapter, so this is our final one.

We're getting close to the end and as I said before, I'm planning on LPing the sequel (Last Window: The Secret of Cape West). The problem is that there's no guide listing all the Game Overs in that game like the one for Hotel Dusk that I'm using and some of the Game Overs there are kinda obscure. For example, I don't know how to get the screwdriver for the alarm Game Over. Do you guys know where I can find the list of Game Overs in that game? I'll allow the use of spoiler tags for explaining the Game Overs in the second game since I don't have PM.

So that means Spoiler tags will contain spoilers for Last Window: The Secret of Cape West. Please don't spoil this game, though.

It's been forever since I played that, but I'm pretty sure you get the screwdriver out of Kyle's room. Then you can unscrew the alarm box and watch Kyle forget he's supposed to catch the case :v:

This is exactly what I'm talking about and what the guide say is possible, but I can't actually grab the screwdriver. Kyle won't grab it when I examine it in any of my playthrough and you can't leave the 4th floor after getting ready to disable the alarm.

Mr. Hyde! Wake up!
Oh, what am I going to do? You can't be... Are you DEAD?
Land sakes, Mr. Hyde! Get up!

Huh. Looks like we don't play as Jeff, who is secretly a vigilante hell bent on vengeance after Bradley kicked his puppy after all. Too bad, FoolyCharged.

This sprite is weird. Remember when I said that every sprite has a short animation? Well, this one ends up in this:

...Yeah.

Music: Midnight
You're alive!
Must be. Being dead wouldn't hurt this bad.
Thank goodness! I'm so glad you're not dead! Are you going to be all right? Well, are you?
Yeah, I... I think so. Head's killing me.

Got me a whole 42nd Street traffic jam blarin' away...
You going to make it, Louie?
Yeah, man, I'm breathing. But I got a knot on my noggin the size of a baseball.
You and me both.
I'm glad that's all it is! To come in here and find the two of you on the floor...goodness! I near to fainted clean away!

"I'm near to fainted clear away!"? I think she means "Nearly fainted."

What on earth happened?
We got thumped good. Some dirtbag hit us from behind. Yeah, Hyde?
That's my take on it. I walked in here and saw Louie on the floor. When I went to check on him... Somebody dry-gulched me. Never saw it coming.
Who would do such a thing?

DeathChicken posted:

RIP Kyle Hyde, murdered by the Pillsbury Doughboy

Maybe him? No hat, though.

Didn't see a face. How 'bout you, Louie? You see who sapped you?
Naw, man. All I saw was stars and the floor. I was checkin' out the shelves in the cellar when I got whacked.
Oww...can't believe how much this hurts, man!
Know how you feel.
That's enough whining from both of you! Pull yourselves together and act like men!

Music stops
Mr. Hyde, Mila hasn't come back yet!
She's still gone?
Yes! And I'm as worried as can be! I can't believe any of this. Just when the girl starts to talk, she up and vanishes!

Music: Rainy Night
Whoa! Hold up, Mama Sass. Mila started talkin'? When this happen?
I ain't heard squat 'bout that!
I just haven't spoken to you about it yet, Louis DeNonno!

Poor Louie... :smith: (Of course, since he hasn't known Mila's mental age, he's still fallen for her.)

No one tells Louie nothin'. So when did Mila start talkin'? ...And did she say anything about me? Huh?

Like that.

Focus, Louie. We were in Room 111. Rosa opened it so I could eyeball an apple painting.
Apple painting? The one what you been lookin' for?
That's it. There are five of them in this joint. And each one's got a different letter of the alphabet on it. String all five of them together and they spell out a name. Jenny.
Jenny? I don't know no Jenny!
Jenny? That's...
But that's the name of the girl Mila was talking about.

Wow. Kyle really did hide a lot from Louie and Rosa, huh?

Yeah. It is.
Whoa, whoa! Slow down! I just got cracked upside the head, remember? Did Mila start talkin' while you was looking at the painting?
No, it was after. I came out of the room and she had keeled over.
What? She, like, fainted?
For a fact! Poor thing lost consciousness, and then stopped breathing!
Oh man...trip...
But Mr. Hyde gave her mouth-to-mouth and saved her life!

The game over if we fail that minigame kinda gloss over what happened after that. I think it's for the best.

Louie, please, don't. I swear, guys, he drops this after he learns about her mental age!

You're an idiot, Louie.
Once Mila came around, she started talking And that's all there is to that!
I think Room 111 triggered something.
What's that?
She remembered coming to the Dusk ten years ago with her father.
You think that's true?
Yeah. Sounds like she was playing in 111 with this Jenny kid. Then somebody up and snatches the kid right in front of her.
Aw, get outta here!
I took Mila back to my room and Mr. Smith showed up. He told me to take Mila to the police in the morning. Well, I told him that Mila could talk, and that we don't need the police's help. Mr. Dunning's eyes got as wide as hotcakes, and he said he had to talk to her!
Wait, so he took Mila? Man, this is trippy. But I think I follow you so far...
There's more. Kevin Woodward knows Mila.
Melissa's pops?
Woodward's a doctor down at Robbins Memorial Hospital. Mila was a patient there for a long time.

It's true that Kyle didn't mention any of it to Rosa, but Mila did! Mila said that she's been sleeping for a long time in Robbins Hospital.

Not exactly. She was in a coma for ten years.
Oh my stars...
Then six months ago, she wakes up. Woodward says it was a total surprise.
Man...now my melon's really achin'. You can't make up crap this weird.

Your boobs are aching? :prepop: (Sorry, that's a very low-hanging fruit.)

I mean, the first results for melon head is an urban legend, and the first results for melon brain is how to make a brain model out of melons. I never heard of melon meaning head elsewhere.

Lemme make sure I follow... Mila was here ten years ago, yeah? I dig that. But then she goes under for ten years? That's crazy.

So basically for Mila that kidnapping incident happens only 6 months ago. No wonder she's traumatized.

It gets crazier. Woodward told me Mila's old man used to visit her once a month. Nice guy, right? But right before she opens her eyes and returns to the world? The old man vanishes. No one's heard from him.
Oh, that poor man! It's possible he doesn't even know that she recovered.
Possible.
And that's why Mila's trying to find him.
Yo, Hyde, you sure WE ain't still knocked out? This is the freakiest story I ever heard.
Better sit down then, Louie, 'cause I ain't done.

I'm really sorry :negative:

Right before Mila came around, she got a new visitor. Wasn't her old man, either. It was somebody using the name Kyle Hyde.
All right, that's enough! You gotta be kiddin' me, right? 'Cause if that's true, then you-know-who was at the hospital!
I know.
Whole thing blows my mind, man...
Mr. Hyde, I'm awfully worried about Mila! We have to hurry and find where she and Mr. Smith have gotten to.
Yeah, I know. But we also have to check out this wine cellar.

Long recaps and bad jokes aside, we FINALLY get to actual gameplay! We can't exit the room, so let's talk to Rosa and Louie.

Where we supposed to look next, Hyde?

Mr. Hyde, where's Mila?

:sigh: Well that's useless. Let's just check this place ourselves. This place is called the Wine Cellar despite not being underground.

Music: Monochrome (Map)
Music: Straight Chaser (Examination)

Like in the pantry, I'll number the top left cabinet '1' and continuing to the right.
Shelf It's a shelf designed to hold alcohol. Bless you, shelf.
Cabinet 2 There's nothing in these boxes.
Cabinet 3 It's a dirty wooden box.
Cabinet 4 It's an empty box. ...Master gumshoe Kyle Hyde strikes again.
Ex-master gumshoe Kyle Hyde. :colbert:
Cabinet 5 and 7 Alcohol is leaking out of a crack in the bottle. What a terrible waste...
Cabinet 6 upper box It's a box from a distillery I've never heard of.
Cabinet 6 lower box It's a box with the name of some distillery on it.
Cabinet 8 It's a dirty wooden box. Who uses wood boxes anymore?
Cabinet 11 It's a box. The name of a booze company's written on it.
Cabinet 12 It's a case of whiskey.

Box There are more whiskey bottles in this case.
There are three bottles in here...
Box (again) There are bottles of whiskey in the box. Ah, my old friend.

We can't examine the poster on the left.

Barrel An entire barrel of beer...
Cabinet 1 There's a whiskey bottle on top of the shelf.
This whiskey... It's the same stuff that was in the case on the back shelf.
(This bottle's only half full. This...)

Obviously Kyle won't pick this up if he hasn't examined the whiskey box.
Cabinet 2 There are bottles of booze in here.
Cabinet 3 It's a wooden box. It's too dirty to make out the lettering.
Cabinet 4 box There's a rolled-up newspaper in this box.
Cabinet 4 bottle The label is coming off these bottles. I can't read any of them.
Cabinet 5 Expensive-looking bottles of hooch.
Cabinet 6 upper box It's a box of liqueur. The label is in some fancy language that I can't read.
Cabinet 6 lower box This box is partly crushed, and the bottom is bulging out.
Cabinet 7 These labels have a bunch of grapes on them. Now that's creative.
Cabinet 8 It's a stack of dirty wooden boxes.
Cabinet 9 Yep. More bottles.
Cabinet 10 This box is full of tattered paper. Thrilling.
Cabinet 11 It's a pile of boxes. Maybe I can build a fort later.
Cabinet 12 It's a box with a simple label.

Use half-full whiskey bottle on whiskey box

Hmm...
What's wrong?
Something about that whiskey bottle seems odd to me.
Huh? Like what? It's just a whiskey bottle. Not a thing odd about it. Trust me on this one, I know whiskey.
Spare me your expertise, Louis! If I say something's odd, it's odd! Why is there a half-full bottle of whiskey in the wine cellar?
If you're going to open a bottle, why wouldn't you put it in the bar?
Wait a... LOUIS! Have you been down here drinking on the sly?!
What? C'mon, Mama Sass, gimme a break. I run the bar! If I wanna drink, I'll pound 'em down up there!

Wish we got more other people interacting with each other like this.

Half-filled bottle The whiskey bottle I just put in the case is still there.

Let's continue examining the area.

Cabinet 1 Boxes with the names of alcohol printed on them.
Cabinet 2 Boxes of booze. I've never heard of this company... I'll have to amend that.
Cabinet 3 There's a whiskey bottle on top of the shelf.
This whiskey... It's the same stuff that was in the case on the back shelf.
Kyle will not pick up the bottle if he's already holding one.
Cabinet 4 upper boxes Empty boxes. Wonder if they're lonely.
Cabinet 4 lower boxes Boxes of hooch. If I turn into a life of crime tonight, I'll come back for these.
Cabinet 5 More wine bottles. ...Never was a big wine guy.
Cabinet 6 upper box A big beer box. Nice.
Cabinet 6 lower box It's an empty wooden box. Smells moldy.
Cabinet 7 Wine bottles. Who cares?
Cabinet 8 It's a dirty wooden box.
Cabinet 9 Wine bottles covered in dust.
Cabinet 10 Some boxes of alcohol kind of shoved together. Must be Louie's work.
Cabinet 11 More empty boxes.
Cabinet 12 Boxes full of liquor.

Use half-full whiskey bottle on whiskey bottle in cabinet 3

I'll pour the whiskey from the bottle I picked up into the bottle that was on the shelf.

Now I'll put it back in the case, and...

Use whiskey bottle on whiskey box

I put a bottle in the case.

*Clicking sound*

(What was that sound?)

You can also do this by grabbing one bottle, placing it here, grabbing the other bottle, then using it on the original one.

Shelf

Huh?
