I usually console tank their mandate & stability and give them max war exhaustion a couple of times per year until they break, even when I play in Europe and don't plan on expanding east (beyond colonizing the spice islands). I think I might still be carrying a grudge from my old Japan game....

I like playing Norway, but I'm not really fond of the grey colour. *Edit* On closer inspection it looks like it could be the yellow color from Scotland too, it's kind of hard to tell the difference from the screenshot. double nine posted:I'm colonizing/conquering the malacca and Philippines trade nodes. So far, I've just thrown every province I acquired into a trading company, but I'm not sure if that's the best way to do it, because the provinces are very high development and if I trade-company the province I can no longer convert it. The goal is to push as much trade as possible into the Madagascar trade node. If you don't put them in a trade company or state them they'll be stuck at 75% autonomy, which means you'll make way less money off of them. Due to the state limit it's probably better to put them in the trade company, especially since that also has the benefit of giving you an extra merchant once your trade power in that node gets big enough. If you want to convert them then you have to do it beforehand. I guess you can always take a province out of the trade company and convert it later, but it'll be next to useless for a couple of years afterwards. Speaking of the colonies, I played my first EUIV game that lasted all the way to 1821 the other day (after about 500 hours played of the game), and it was strange seeing Florida turn into the United States and getting events popping up saying that their relations with England had grown worse, when I had conquered England a few hundred years earlier

If you max out Innovativeness and keep it full until 1821, it unlocks Victoria 3 which will be included in the patch.

If they don't release a DLC containing nothing but 100+ Mann achievements, there's clearly no one at Paradox with any business sense.

The first thing that crossed my mind when I read about the coal and furnace manufactory being added to the game was "who even needs more money at that stage in the game?". I guess it makes more sense now that they are reducing income and upping expenses elsewhere, but they still comes so late in the game that I wonder if there will be any point to them.

As cool as all of that would be I'm guessing the main hurdle is making the AI capable of actually using all of the systems well enough.

The worst part of conquering large amounts of land is the busywork of trying to find enough high development provinces with low production/trade values to give to the estates so they'll stop their wining for a while.

There was a post about this earlier in the thread.

I don't care about achievements so I have the female advisors/generals thing added to the NI of whatever nation I play. I don't know what the bug is supposed to be but it hasn't ruined any of my games at least (I think). The only thing I don't like about it is that when my ruler is female too her consort will almost inevitably cheat on her with one of the female advisors, even if they're twice the age of my ruler

If what was mentioned previously is correct, naval combat width in EUIV is individual to each side and is affected by admiral maneuver skill, and since the British admiral had 4 more pips in maneuver than yours they basically outnumbered your fleet in every engagement. They got a 50% bonus to engagement width vs your 20% bonus. Still pretty amazing though.

Same. I only knew about the Thirty Years' War by name before playing EU4. When I encountered it in the game I started reading up on it a little, and oh boy did that explain a lot of things about Europe that they didn't teach in school when I was a kid. I wouldn't say the game itself teaches history or anything, but it's definitely had me looking up historical events that are incredibly fascinating that I'd probably never learn about if I weren't playing.

The fact that the DLC is still in the top sellers list on Steam and that the number of reviews are increasing (but the average score is not) says a lot about people who buy, play and complain about Paradox games and Paradox's DLC policy. You'd think the terrible score would stop people from buying the DLC at least until it's fixed, but I guess Paradox fans are a strange breed of people.

Publishers tend to be very opposed to pushing back announced release dates for any reason, so I wouldn't be surprised if they just went "you can fix it later" to the devs, who were very much aware of what was going to happen but weren't heard.

Anno posted:They are the publisher, though. And this is arguably their flagship title. It’s so weird to knowingly crush it’s reputation. No one cares these days about a delay, and it’s not like it’s quarter end or something where they want to hit some financial target. Have you seen that meme gif with the lady who says "it's a banana, what could it cost? $5?" ? It's like that, but the woman is corporate management asking "how bad could it be?". At least, that's the only thing i can think of. I mean, it's either ignorance or malice, and while the former isn't excusable it's at least preferable to the latter.
