the Orb of Zot posted:Can someone give a decent summary of what’s new in Dom 6 so I can laugh at all the new ways for things to go wrong and ruin everything Expanding slightly upon jsoh post: -Seven new nations -New magical path, ‘Glamour’, the magic of illusions, dreams and forgotten legends, with all related stuff (new spells, new summons, new items, new blesses). -Reworked cavalry system, now riders and mounts are simulated as individual entities, mounts can have their own magical items, armor, and there are new related abilities.. -Reworked scales, economy and magic vs mundane armies balance, trying to give more time where mundane armies matter, and increasing armies size. -Provinces are a bit more mutable, their scales and even their type can change in more interesting ways. -New blesses, and a more flexible bless point system. -New multiplayer ingame lobby system, although old methods still work. -New cave layer system, that is in a separate map, Age of Wonders style. -New map system that can use templates to build random maps. -New modding options: blesses are now moddable, map layer system also can be used to create custom maps with custom layers, and mods are Steamworkshop-enabled now. -Improved UI, and a pair of QoL features that should reduce the micro a bit. -Possibility to do non aggression pacts with AI, and see diplomatic status.

Im shocked neither of you mentioned what seems like the second biggest change (glamor is #1): the size of a dude on the field is no longer 1-6 but 1-10, giving a near double increase in the granularity of giants sucking.

Huge units do get the intrinsic ability to force their way past smaller enemies, so it is now harder to block giants using ants.

Is the new riders system a buff to Ys and their sacreds? If you can simply bring your fire breathing horses/kelpies back to Ys to get new riders, that would be a small bit of help.

Does a significant enough size difference give free trample attacks to the larger unit? Probably not, but it seems like the sort of thing Dominions would do.

Depending on how things settle, it may be a nerf to the poor big lizard riders of LA Agartha. At least in Dom 5, you get to keep the cave drakes when the rider bites it. If they translate this directly into the new system, you'll now gain the ability to get the entire rider+drake combo back at half price, but don't get to keep a growing squad of cave drakes to screen your cavalry. So either the drake riders get some massive buffs to compensate, or their slow asses will suck even harder in Dom 6.

Overall the consensus is that the new rider system is a net buff for any heavy cavalry, but I think I read Y's horses has been nerfed a bit, they don't have that high armor anymore so it's more like a sidegrade for them.

Since my MO3-LP is winding down, I'm thinking about launching a video LP if I actually manage to make it through a game long enough to get a sizable enough number videos before my inevitable defeat at the hands of my own stupidity. But it's just one of multiple ideas I'm mulling over currently, another idea I had was a Starfield-LP. Also a video LP because I'm planning ahead this time and screenshot Let's Plays are simply too much work to run more than one at the same time. And my backlog of planned screenshot LPs is already enough to make even an immortal god wince.

Uhh. Since I finished it and uninstalled it, I don't want to ever hear, read or watch anything related to Starfield again. Maybe it's all an excuse to make a very comedic LP, I guess.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuLf2pT-x8Y How, how you can make a video called 'primer for new players', make it as long as a movie, and still barely explain concepts and only do 2 turns and 1 single battle in that time. How. At that pace, the primer will be 7+ hours in total. Which is opposite of what is needed, you cannot say how Dominions is a game that shouldn't be as feared as the fame implies, and then put a 7+ hours tutorial. People have finite time. I would seriously make a *real* primer for new players video, except for the fact that I'm not English native and my spoken English isn't up to the task (people would wonder what word I said exactly in too many instances, which is contrary to wanting to do a video that helps people in learning something) There is another guy doing videos, btw, here is a stream https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVx2kjX1FOQ Turin Turambar fucked around with this message at 21:07 on Jan 12, 2024 |

...I'll admit, I was NOT expecting Muspelheim to be a cold favored nation. And honestly going to need the spells, because having Fire Power on your cap only sacreds (particularly the Jarl) when you presumably want neutral/cold scales in general doesn't seem great. edit: For those not checking the stream, Muspelheim's recruitment list is literally just normal Jotun and Gygja with the exception of their cap where they get a site giving cap-only recruitment of Muspel Jotuns and fire versions of Niefel Jarls, Giants and Gygjas. Cold favored +2 for the entire nation other than the cap, where it's Heat favored +3 instead (and they get a site boosting it to the max of 5). Streamer unfortunately hasn't really gone through the vast majority of the spell lists, but Conjuration at least is just standard Norse fare with no addtions. Huh, interesting take but I'm not sure how well it will work out in practice. I guess you take low domscore since I'm guessing you can't afford that many sacreds anyhow and hope you have warmer neighbors to invade?

# ? Jan 12, 2024 22:54 |

That's basically my initial take as well - I'd really been expecting a Fire version of Niefelheim instead of "literally Niefel except for the cap." But it's at least possible there's some cool fire-related (maybe even affecting the nation) stuff in their research paths, so not exactly making a final judgement or anything yet.

TheDeadlyShoe posted:i like double threat muspelheim. it offers the possibility of a hard bless fire strat and it also means you cant just counter them by killing their cold scales. Muspelheim got the beach bod and is ready for it The problem is that it isn't actually a double threat - or at the very least isn't based on what's been shown. Normal Jotun don't get any benefit from cold, they just don't take fatigue penalties and come with snow move. The dangerous part of engaging Niefel in their cold scales is entirely based on their cap only sacreds, which Muspel obviously doesn't get. So unless you're like, I dunno, summoning a bunch of Draugr or something, the cold scales do literally nothing positive for you other than helping out your economy. But they also dumpster the stats of your sacreds due to Fire Power. Meanwhile, trying to go against that and just go Heat scales certainly helps your sacreds, but your economy will suffer and all your non-cap troops will eat huge fatigue penalties since they favor the cold. i.e. You don't NEED to kill their cold scales, you can just march right in and have an advantageous engagement since they can't effectively bring their sacreds to bear.
