freebooter posted:With an early election - why do the ordinary punters always whinge about elections? I know we're all political junkies who love them, but seriously, I don't notice any difference whatsoever between ordinary times and election season except a handful of ads on TV. So what gives? Maybe the parties are so good at electioneering now only the people who aren't engaged are targeted and bombarded with things we never see?

bandaid.friend posted:ATM down the road was replaced with a touchscreen model and it's stuffed. First of all why would I want to be prodding at the display like an idiot. And of course it broke, and there's no fall back, the buttons on the side of the display don't do anything. I just want my money. It's a bloody outrage. How do I get dumbshit ATMs looked into in the inquiry? And how the gently caress are blind people going to use a touchscreen with no haptic feedback?

JBP posted:Everyone attacking the ability to re-hold a vote is out of line. If the rule didn't exist you'd have all sorts of stupid loving hijinks as MPs try to get people blocked or trick people into not attending. You can't just have a vote and go that's that when it's not representative and the representatives that weren't there want to be heard on the issue. Actually nah, if it takes all MPs of every party having to attend every single vote I'd happily make them do it (barring sickness, grief etc.)

Isn't he the one who called himself a libertarian, before saying he was okay with data retention (the old 'if you've got nothing to hide' argument) and thinks marijuana should stay illegal while calling it 'whacky tobaccy' Other than being against cannabis that's a textbook definition of libertarian. They're just Pinochet worshiping fascists.

The breast thing only applies to refusing classification and allowing customs to seize those films if they're imported. It's not a case of people getting charged with looking at child porn if they're watching sex workers with A cups. On that basis I wouldn't be surprised if 'Twink schoolboy destroyed by Teacher vol 3' would also be seized by customs but I don't think the person importing it wouldn't be charged with anything.

Whitlam posted:During the Voluntary Assisted Dying stuff, while the public hearings and inquiries were going on, there was this particular high-profile activist who attended most days. Because of the nature of his terminal illness, he had an oxygen mask and other breathing equipment with him, sitting in the gallery, minding his own business. During the lunch break one day, a group of people from a religious organisation who were also watching went up to one of the attendants and asked if the guy could be removed as it was distressing to them to see him. You know this makes their paranoia that we'd kill off all disabled people with euthanasia make a lot more sense. They'd like to, but are compelled not to.
