The YOSPOS thread covers the bitcoin bubble in pretty good detail. There is also the major issue where one of the larger exchanges, Bitfinex, apparently owns another company called Tether through a series of shell companies in the usual shady corporate jurisdictions. Tether issues tokens which are supposed to be backed 1:1 by USD. Tether has also carefully avoided any audit and buried a line in their Terms and Conditions explaining that tokens have no monetary value. Bitfinex lost access to banking services because of anti money laundering laws. So rather than allow users to make USD withdrawals Bitfinex pays out using tethers which are supposed to be just as good. Nevermind that no one has successfully redeemed a tether for cold hard cash. Tether has issued close to a billion dollars of tokens which they claim is backed by USD reserves no one has ever seen. In short, an exchange is secretly printing hundreds of millions of virtual dollars to pay out withdrawals which is contributing to the rapid rise of this bubble.

Most Israelis spend 2-3 years as a conscript from about ages 18 to 21/22. From the IDF soldiers I've talked to, most of them live at home and take the bus to their post on the days they're required to report in. They can get away with this because Israel is smaller than New Jersey and a posting on the other side of the country can still be a 2 hour bus ride. Israel has an exemption for the ultra orthodox who choose to attend yesheva (religious school). Incidentally, ultra orthodox who were never conscripted make up a vastly disproportionate number of the settlers founding communities, sometimes illegally, in the West Bank because they have a religious obligation to reclaim all of Eretz Yisrael.

45 ACP CURES NAZIS posted:How did the Israeli government get to where it is? Did the more radicals self select IE the normal jewish people stayed in the country they lived in while the more right leaning ones decide to move into a country surrounded by hostile countries? This has certainly been the case among the members of my temple who've since moved to Israel. One of the guys who was all gung ho about joining up used to complain about how Ronald Reagan was too soft in standing up to the Soviets.

Gobbeldygook posted:The passage of net neutrality had no effect on your life. It's repeal will also probably have no effect on your life. Your favorite corporate dystopia fiction isn't becoming real just because we're returning to the rules from two years ago. Net neutrality rules were the culmination of a decade of legislation formalizing restrictions regulators had enforced for 20-30 years. Assuming good faith, your argument is rooted in incorrect facts. It's going to take decades to undo the damage this administration has done in a matter of months, isn't it.

Soylent's Guide to surviving crazy rightwing family Christmas parties: 0) Be told over and over again how Trump is supporting "my people" by moving the embassy to Jerusalem. 1) Drink every time the above happens. 2) Wish people Happy Holidays. 3) When called out apologize and wish them a Happy Hanukkah. 4) When called out a second time explain you don't acknowledge Christmas because Christianity is just an idol worshiping Jewish heresy that fundamentally misunderstands the messianic prophesy. 5) Uber back to my sister's apartment and pet her doggo while marathoning Law & Order.
