To add to what's already been said, before their most recent operation what Israel is doing could have been described as Apartheid & Ethnic Cleansing with Genocide as hyperbole, but in their last operation they specifically bombed hospitals, electric plants, and water purification systems in a way that has crippled Gaza in every way imaginable. For a good while there was an uneasy peace where Gaza was better off freedom-wise than the west bank, because while the blockade was in place Hamas had multiple tunnels to import/export and allow passage through their borders, the city had a functional-if-strained economy, and they had cracked down on rocket launches (which is impressive when you consider how extraordinarily cheap the rockets are to create, even for the average citizen).
