Beartaco posted:There's a dirt path on the way to the gym and every day there's at least one blackbird lying in the grass with its feathers ruffled looking absolutely ghastly. They'll fly away when I get close to see if they're okay, so I'm assuming they're just sunbathing. Wouldn't doubt it, sounds kinda like the bird equivalent of when squirrels get hot & go spread eagle, I used to see that all the time in the summer at my old apartment

I've seen it happen to squirrels, it's funny watching them try to climb when they can't tell which way is up

RoboRodent posted:I remember a friend who was living in south Korea for a while talking about her roommate who insisted on buying expensive imported certified organic food, when the local farmers sold their produce cheaper, needed the support, and most couldn't even afford pesticides anyway, they all used duck gangs. Reminds me of when I was little & my grandparents had a neighbor with a chicken coop. Whenever he had new baby chicks, we'd take them out to the field behind his house like a little army & help them hunt bugs

Google usually helps me identify all the wonderful Sparrows, Wrens, Nuthatchs, Hummers, Tits, Finches, Barred Owls, Eagles, Falcons etc that stop to say hi and grab a bite to eat on their way North/South every year, but it's failing me on this lovely boy, closest I could find was a bullocks Oriole, Orange color and correct range (PNW) but doesn't seem to have those striking orange streaks on the wings. That's one handsome borb, love the colors/pattern of its feathers
