Pookah posted:Looks like a raven to me, or maybe a carrion crow? The beak length and shape look very raven-y anyway. The standard british crow is a rook isn't it? It's definitely not a rook. I'd say our "standard" crow is the Carrion crow. Bigger than a jackdaw, smaller than a raven. Rooks are there but not in the same numbers.

Yeah I don’t trust people who jump at the chance to get their murder on for ‘ecological reasons’. It would require a systemic approach, not weirdos with BB guns.

Pookah posted:I'm guessing it's because Athena was traditionally accompanied by an owl and she was the goddess of wisdom. I just looked it up and they don't really know why the association of Athena/owl started though. Possibly a link to Ishtar/Inanna of Sumer? She's like one of the earliest goddess's and I assume she might have inspired following myths. Ishtar was sometimes depicted flanked by owls.

For instance, there are thousands of species of birds that eat fruit but only one that looks like a toucan. And hummingbird beaks are specialized for drinking nectar, yes, but they also regularly catch and eat insects. Excommunicated for crimes against birbdom
