Welcome to the time-lapse thread. Time-lapses are so popular around here that the last thread got archived, but they are fun I think people should make more of them. Why take 1 bad picture when you can take 3,000 of the same bad pictures?

I'm not going to explain what a time-lapse is. You know what a time-lapse is. What you're here for is to make fun of my time-lapses, so let's get right into it.

Recently I was trying to get this picture, and was unhappy that I wasn't able to capture how creepy it was with moon rising and the fog slowly bubbling towards me. By the time I thought of shooting a time-lapse it was too late, but next morning I woke up and the fog was still around, so I shot this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUcipogiBls

- Watching the fog clearing up is somewhat interesting. Could probably trim a bit from the beginning. The end definitely needs some trimming; it's too wide to actually see anything of interest save for a little fog way out in the distance.
- This was my first attempt at doing the zoom/pan thing. I think I like it overall.
- Color banding is a bit distracting in the nearly-pure-fog portion of the video.

Up next, we have ~* TRAINS *~. I lucked out in that they happen to be building a light rail station near me, and they just so happened to be putting up an elevated portion of track recently:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tj39HeYSc1U

- Turns out that having something interesting to capture makes a significantly more interesting time-lapse. Who knew?
- Was a bit disappointed that I didn't get the full setup->tear down. I had to reset maybe a half hour in because I started before they turned the spotlights on and those really hosed up my exposure.
- Added a really minimal zoom out on this one. So minimal that it's barely noticeable even if you're looking for it. Need to be a bit more aggressive on that.
- Overall I like the shot here. Wide enough that you get a bit of context and see the Caution: Wide Loads arriving and whatnot. I do think it would be cool to, say, zoom in on a girder as it's being lifted up. Don't think I have enough pixels to get super-close at 4K though.
- As an aside, the official video of this is here. Mine is better :colbert:.

I still have a lot of practicing and learning to do, but things are coming along. I've even gotten comfortable enough with the shooting aspect of that I may try to do some from outside the comfort of my own home. In the meantime, my hard drive is filled with less-interesting construction stuff that needs to be post processed.

Cool poo poo. I liked it so much that I watched all three train station videos.

I've had the urge to get into time lapse stuff percolating in my guts for a while. I just picked up a motorized gimbal, and one of its features is a mode specifically for doing motion time lapses, which seems cool. It'll move along a programmed path, stopping and triggering the shutter at intervals.

I never end up doing it, because it's such a big time commitment, and I don't want to go through it all and then be like, "Well, that doesn't look cool at all."

I’ve done this more times than I’m proud of. Flipping through your shots after a few hours and realizing you hosed up and/or nothing interesting happened is significantly more demoralizing than when that one shot you were excited about turns out to be a dud.

The real time sink for me has been post processing. I have a few scenes shot that I’ve been putting the finishing touches on, but I keep getting distracted trying to automate the more tedious parts of my workflow and not finishing them. And I’ve been busy putting together my wedding album, so not much time for somewhat interesting videos of a parking garage being demolished.

i have to have a car because otherwise i cant drive around the country solving mysteries while being doggedly pursued by federal marshals for a crime i did not commit (9/11)

Cool stuff, OP. I especially like the train station one. While watching I began to wonder how the scene might look shot through a tilt shift lens. Would the miniature effect still work with a time lapse?

FYI LRtimelapse is a god send for any and all timelapses. Mostly just to stop flickering in exposure over long shoots.

I made a cool and interesting time lapse in Queenstown couple of years back.

Went to Vegas a few weeks ago and made a time-lapse of the Bellagio fountains.

Wish I was setup to take shots with an interval shorter than 1 seconds here. Also wish I had taken a slightly wider lens to get a little bit more of the scenery in.

I have been using LRTimelapse and it is quite good outside of the whole Java thing. I also have a shot of some clouds that's similar to this that I've been meaning to process for a little while now.

Here's some more construction! This time we have some parking garage demolition.

Shot this one a while ago. My few couple attempts at post processing turned out pretty poorly because I tried to ignore the lighting changes from the stupid sun. Also have a short jump a bit into the video because I didn't start with enough battery.

I tried making a timelapse of a tiny cilantro plant sprouting in my windowsill using a macro lens, and accidentally captured thousands of tiny bugs that were invisible to the naked eye. I have no idea what they are or if they'll become a pest, but I am kinda turned off by how many there are. Watch in HD for the full effect:

This is cool. How long did you shoot it for?

I’ve been shooting a bouquet of flowers dying for the last couple days. Stupid things are living longer than I thought and I have to pull my camera tomorrow morning.

Here are some flowers dying. Pretty happy with what I got. Not so happy that I couldn't let it go for another day or two.
