I've been trying to stop using my smartphone at night to sleep better, and I'm cheap - so I've been reading more books.

The hot new thing at my library is "holds" you always used to be able to put a hold on a book at another library, but now they put it on a shelf to check out. This includes books *INSIDE* the library, so if you're too lazy to grab stuff off the shelves just put holds in and pick it all up tomorrow!

This has had the other side effect there's less people walking around and more spots to look at porn quietly "work from home".

Anyways, "The Fire and the Fury" has a 567 person waitlist (!) for my county and I'm too cheap to buy books. What should I read instead? I've got a cool book on the cia (Legacy of Ashes), Neuromancer, Godel Escher Bach... or maybe put something else on hold.

Anyways, library chat... commence!

as someone who didn't grow up in a Big City this was the biggest culture shock going to the Big City Public Library, feauring study rooms booked by bums for naps and blue lights in the bathroom so they can't find their veins :/

It's a warm place where you don't have to purchase anything and they won't kick you out. Not a lot of

I go to the library on my computer.

Buy a Kindle Paperwhite. The screen is good for reading, unlike your smartphone or tablet, and you can rent books for free from your library.

i have an old kindle so it's convoluted but you can put books onthere.

but often some books aren't on the kindle. plus then amazon knows all the stuff you read :tinfoil:

i don't have a problem. they don't seem to wreck the bathrooms and are quiet, so more power to them.

Yeah they're usually pretty quiet. Funniest thing I saw in a bathroom was at Panera, an employee with Down syndrome was washing their hair in the toilet.
I don't eat at any Panera ever now lol

Same but I buy them. Mostly because I love just sitting by my bookshelves full of books and reading. Plus Amazon delivers them and they're always on hand for a reread whenever.

There’s a library a three minuets walk from my front door and I would love to go there more but don’t because the human beings inside make it extremely uncomfortable for my sight, smell, hearing, and touch senses.

I'm only 31, bro. Sadly right now 2/3 of my books are in boxes until I land a better gig and move somewhere with a room I can put my bookshelves up in.

I didn't have two whole bedrooms but it did have a small den attached to the living room that was perfect for a comfy chair, small end table, a tall reading lamp, and like four tall bookshelves. I miss it and wish that company didn't go to poo poo and I'd still be there.

But then I would never have started doing really loving cool nuke work, so eh. Everything will work out.

Book chat.

I got a book I’ve been meaning to read. I think it’s called Solaris, short scifi story about human psychology in space. I also just got the Three Body Problem which I saw mentioned in GBS.

I read Anatomy of the State and the Communist Manifesto over winter break and gave my sister Monkey on a Stick for xmas (about the Hare Krishna cult).

Books rule.

Liberaries are pretty great. It's a good place to read some decent comics without having to buy them. Or waste your cash on comics that turn out sexist or phobic. The latest additions shelves always have some neat stuff on them. Lately I've been reading 'Wicked Like A Wildfire' by Lana Popovic and just finished He Said She Said by Erin Kelly. Also if you like tense horror slash ghost slash mountain climbing stories, I suggest The White Road by Sarah Lotz. Creeped me the hell out.
