The reason no arrests are made so often in domestic abuse situations is that the victim drops the charges or won't cooperate, for whatever reason, but quite a bit is because the abuser, whether directly or through third party influence, gets them to drop it. Many abusers can be emotionally manipulative as well. In those cases the police have nothing to go except the initial report, thus not enough evidence to make an arrest on their own. This is why it's so sad so many OSU fans are hanging their hat on the fact that no arrests were made, shows how much most people just don't understand domestic abuse cases.

I think this is by far the worst take, and I can't for the life of me understand it. The absolution of the loving terrible work that the Powell police department did in this case is ridiculous. What Meyer did or didn't do stands on its own, but people are using him as some stand-in that would provide justice for Courtney Smith. No matter what Meyer did as a bystander, that makes the police 100x worse. The only people that could have provided true justice for her are them, and they failed miserably. The only reason that Meyer found out about it in the first place was because it was reported to police, who did a grand total of gently caress-all.

The juxtaposition of "ho hum the police's hands were tied" and "Meyer should have brought the hammer down" just makes me feel like :psyduck: into infinity. It's completely insane. You don't get to skewer Meyer without the justice system being even more culpable.

No one is asking Meyer to throw the guy in jail.

Hell at this point since he's obviously not going anywhere I'd settle for a real apology.

My entire point is that people are focusing entirely on Meyer and literally absolving the police of responsibility in a case of domestic violence that they literally ignored for years. The poster I replied to stated, verbatim "In those cases the police have nothing to go except the initial report, thus not enough evidence to make an arrest on their own". It's not just him, the media and everyone in Columbus is doing the same. That's absolutely insane. If he had been thrown in jail in the first place this never would have ever gotten to this point. Urban Meyer's culpability isn't pushed up the totem pole of justice just because you and I can put a name to his face. He's pretty far down on what would provide actual justice for Courtney Smith, or what would have prevented her from further abuse.

Losing sight of that is just a bad of an offense of putting football on a pedestal as the people who are victim blaming to save their team. The Powell police are by far the most culpable in this situation and no one is talking about it, and even people who hate Meyer for this are absolving them of guilt. It's insane. Even people talking about the amended report are only talking about it in the sense of "how does this affect Meyer".

It's like, "The police covered up a domestic violence case for years and did nothing to help the victim, but how does this affect some football coach?" What? Huh? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Engler was also involved in other instances where he has pushed for the university to pivot toward the future and away from the case that put Nassar behind bars for what amounts to the rest of his life.

In a recent meeting, according to sources, Engler walked in and told a team planning an event: "Get that teal poo poo out of here."

Engler's comments have sent a clear message, Denhollander said.

"Engler's attitude toward us survivors is a whole new set of problems. It's just compounding (the issues). It's why survivors aren't coming forward. They've seen what has been happening to the Nassar survivors

"They (Engler and the board) think it's all about money. They are too worried about liability, It's been like that since the start.".

Tulane-Wake Forest is probably going to be the most interesting game to watch next Thursday.

I could see either team winning but Wake Forrest having an o-line of 4 5th year seniors +1 4th year junior might be the key to the game.

However, Wake is starting a true freshman QB and Tulane's QB owns.

edit: speaking of Tulane, they had Justin McMillan from LSU announce he is transferring there today. Tulane needed a backup QB so this is good news. https://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/2018/08/justin_mcmillan_tulane_lsu.html
It's a good thing LSU is too scared to play Tulane in men's sports or they wouldn't have allowed him to transfer there.

Yeah

They seem to have revised the program a bit and dumped the workout that caused that, but the handling of it was shameful and Doyle should have been fired.

There was also a pretty ugly sexual assault case in like 2007 but Kirk did what he was supposed to do and kicked both players off the team right away, the investigation just got bungled above him
