We don't exist in real life, but we're working hard in your delusions!
I just dropped into this series fairly cold, and boy do i have a lot of unpack.

I also looked into the manga, Yakubi Kentaro can draw nice bodies but can’t make a visually distinct female character. 02 looked almost exactly like a ToLove-Ru character.

Protag looks like the most generic character A-1 is capable of making, but he’s growing on me.

Finally, the femdom anime we deserve.

Given Hiro looks like an extra from Birdy:Decode, there's hardly any evolution to who they got doing character designs. At least for him, the rest of the cast looks better IMO

People can argue the reason for the fanservice in KLK, FRANXX can't do that yet.

But given what we have, I hope it's a good one.

Altnernatively and also, they want to make a horny show, and that’s fine too.

I like the idea of a society so far removed from human sexuality that they don't see their bondage room mech cockpits the same way we do.

But then we have the scene in ep1 where Dr. FranXX just straight up grabs Nana's rear end. Creepy as it was, it could show it's not that ultra utilitarian, but the parasites live ultra controlled lives instead. They're already shown to be disposable.

I'm still wrapping my head around how the female partner is the interface/control console for the mechs. Their hoods are instrument clusters, their controls on their hips. They have heels (why?) Rewatching ep1 right now 0ni is wearing the appropriate suit for her mech.

I don't know, I'm going to watch it with my brain off until I can make more sense of it.

Since we can deduce that the franxx are designed by Dr Oldmansqueezeyourass, every part of this framework was done on purpose by an old perv. Here’s where I’m stuck,

Homegirl’s a dashboard in all this.

As far as sexual metaphors go, oh boy. Forgive me for being 7 pages behind this discussion but the more i think about all this, the less likely we’re going to see subversion in all of this. Kentaro Yabuki illustrating the manga seems to tell me everything i need to know about the direction it’s headed. But the female pilot just bein an interface to jack into is the worst metaphor for a sexual awakening story. I would hope this story goes in the direction of more mutual control when piloting. I’ve got conflicts in my head between Give and Recieve I don’t have the context to explain properly.

I’d like for there to be a move towards “piloting” as equals, I’d love if they go with the femdom angle for 016 and 002, they seem to be dangling this, but god knows if they’ll pull it off.

Why would the tie-in manga's artist be relevant at all to the story?

The series is so far being a really dumb kind of sexy and they picked an illustrator perfect for that role. I’ll probably be madder over his use of Sameface in end like I already am with A-1.

and they okay'd Mitsuru piloting with her despite her not actually wanting it initially but they seem absolutely against Hiro piloting in a way that just seems weird.

From what I can gather, they'll never promote someone to a pilot without a partner, but Hiro does have some bullshit mcguffen for not being thrown out, like he's got some extended warranty or a 90 day return policy or something. The counsel of spooky men and women seem to find the fact that Hiro can pilot with 02 as some oddity, but they don't seem that interested in going forward with him. Once 02 and Hiro go they'll probably spend the rest of the plot chasing after them because he probably has something like the password to the home router printed on the bottom of his foot or something.

The Modern Sky
Aug 7, 2009

We don't exist in real life, but we're working hard in your delusions!
I think this more has to do with the mentality going into the Franxx with 02. He was all like "Imma pilot gud now" but didn't exactly say he wanted to pilot with 02 herself. This time he's owning up to being her partner and not leaving her alone and stuff, which could maybe be the reason why so many of her other pilots began to die after so many times in the seat. That's a pretty good message, to put your heart into it.

And speaking of heart, Futoshi and Kokoro are still my favorite pairing and I hope nothing bad ever happens to them ever.
