Sometimes the TAS timing rules (the last input) make thing amusingly stupid.

Two seconds of input to change the control scheme -> game plays demos and jumps to the end screen after 1 hour and 45 minutes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmn6ZHn1-nI
http://tasvideos.org/5799S.html

quote:

The demo which plays is not a proper video file, it's effectively its own TAS which plays a specific input in order to produce the demonstration. However, it doesn't update the movie according to the current Input configuration, which means if we change which button does what it results in the demos no longer producing the intended effect.

What does happen, will be standard deaths on most stages, which would otherwise cause you to reset on your current level. The exception here is for the bonus stage "Apu in Agrabah", which upon failing results in it advances you to the next stage instead. You will then find that the next stage the game tries to demo, is not the intended "Agrabah Rooftop", but instead the stage after the previously selected one, IE level 04. This then happens every cycle, such that next time it tries to play the demo input into level 05, then 06, all the way up to the final level. The demo cycle 'completing' the previous Apu level, means that the final level then gets advanced, and 'completed', resulting in the final credits being displayed. These are different from the regular credits which come up while waiting, since they contain the romantic background of both the rug ride and the kiss, and thus is a definite ending.

Goldeneye runners go off the in-game time, which only measures to the second

so I assume some of the levels that have like a 50+ way tie for the Agent WR are solved but I've never seen a Goldeneye TAS.

All but one Goldeneye TAS times are at least few seconds faster. Runway record is actually faster than the TAS (which is 7 years old). The TAS uses the hardest difficulty which makes the perfection even harder for the human players.

Yeah IIRC most games don't capture footage and reshow it for a replay as that would take a ton of memory. They just simulate the exact motions again and gently caress with the camera or whatever. If the motions were too hosed up to recreate, shenanigans ensue

tbf I haven't watched the vid yet but that's my thing to say about video game instant replays

I remember playing Worms (2?) and after killing the last opponent a replay was played. In the replay the enemy worm somehow survived so the round continued with the computer's turn.

TASvideos now accepts Linux-games emulated with libTAS.

Very nice, since the tools for Windows and DOS TASing have been quite limited.

I hadn't really thought about a planescape torment speedrun. Does that game have a lot of skips? I imagine they'd try to do as little in the way of combat as possible. What does the final party end up looking like? I can't imagine they'd go for Nordom because he's kind of outta the way, Morte and Annah are given to you and Dak'kon and Grace are freebies, idk if it'd be out of the way or not to pick up the water bottle to recruit Ignus, and Vhailor's right at the end to pick up too.

I should probably just watch a speedrun of it so I can see the questions answered myself :v:

I watched the 35 min run. Puts everything to strength and wisdom (for xp) and maxes the thief skills. Then runs through the plot points and stealth punches everyone who objects. Morte and Annah are used for some fast travelling tricks but dumped after the beginning. Strategic deaths are another way to fast travel.

Back in the 90s we had a lame CD-i sponsored tv-show. Competitors called from home and used their phone to play games that weren't designed to played with phone. One of those was Burn Cycle. Nobody ever got past the first enemy.
