To the surprise of absolutely no one.

I'm in the process of moving to a new place but once I get stuff set up at the new place over the next few weeks I intend on... well, fixing GDQ videos for a while. I don't think there's anything seriously wrong with any videos this time, thankfully, and I've figured out how to offload the actual encoding steps onto The Cloud(tm) so my desktop won't have to get tied up for weeks on end any more.

After that... I dunno, probably BM0 (100% either Jason or Shantae) and Carol?

It's almost as if the entire hobby is made out of ultimately arbitrary decisions.

In all seriousness, though, "modding the game to remove RNG" is definitely an outlier when it comes to weird poo poo that people allow for category decisions, so I don't know why it's so surprising that a lot of people are giving it some intense side-eye.

You're right, though, in that ultimately it's all about what people are willing to run, otherwise romhack runs wouldn't exist at all. :v:

To elaborate on this in a more serious way: even if it were clean "enough" (debatable even if I were being massively charitable and assuming sub only mode) it's too noisy to be anything other than a massive crowd aggregate reaction. Think of a stadium crowd cheering. You wouldn't try to have a deep discussion with somebody five rows back at a sports event so I think the same approach applies here when the crowd gets to a certain size.

I'm going to agree with Murph on this one, given that most of the runs I really like doing are about this length. When you're starting out fight the urge to just reset constantly, getting in full game runs is just as important as practicing individual sections (and if you reset a lot you're really just practicing the first part a ton).

Earlier tonight I did a few runs of a category for Blaster Master that I never really put any serious effort into (glitchless) and after three runs I had it down to like 46 minutes when I was originally thinking 48 minutes was a reasonable starting point.

Then I did a few derust runs on Metal Storm and my very first run of the first loop was a mere 17 seconds slower than my old PB and 12 seconds faster than my SGDQ2014 run. After not playing the game for something like a year and a half. Second loop was quite a bit rougher, but still within acceptable parameters considering how long it's been since I put any effort into it.

Think I'll be good for GDQx submissions by Saturday.

It seems like for a lot of folks there just isn't a desire anymore--if ever--to extend the well meaning benefit of the doubt to GDQ. Right or wrong or based on past perceived slights or bumbling or inaction or whatever, it seems that there's people who saw this whole ordeal--and the deleted tweet--as par for the course for GDQ. And I think on that reasonable people can certainly disagree; none of us are emotion cops

To me though, especially reading Coolmatt's tweets and replies right now, this isn't an organization that feels duplicitous. I think on the whole these are well meaning, honest people who don't condone harassment and are trying to do good

Keeping most enforcement discussions internal to GDQ makes us look a lot less active than we actually are. Even in this thread there's a lot of either outright incorrect information (not lies, just people getting stuff wrong) or speculation about things that I can't address. I have to be careful even discussing things that I think are 'public knowledge'.

It's pretty neat.

You know, I knew about a wrong warp to Level 9 from 3 that didn't mess up the graphics or cause other weirdness, but it only left you with like 12 minutes left on the timer, so you couldn't actually win. This, on the other hand, is completely great.
