St. Valentine's day is comin' up, and you know what that means! Break out the pinking shears and painful misunderstandings, it's time to make valentines! On Valentine's we make valentines, which really sounds stupid when you think about it. Does your family gather in the den and exchange christmasses? Do you go door to door collecting halloweens? No that's stupid. They... Uh anyway it's time to make valentines, but what a time the winter of 2018 is for such a thing. 2017 ended with a worldwide women's rights movement boiling over into streets and headlines, and a hard-earned international focus on sexual abuse in the workplace that has only begun to intensify. Whoever or however you date/marry/procreate is your own business and I just say hooray for love, but as a person interested in dating women interested in dating men 2017 was not a great year for expressing romantic interests. Not in the midst of Lysistrata, and especially not with office supplies. So straight cis-men had a brand correction and yes we had it coming, cool. The ascendant role of women in business and politics is a good thing absolutely. But I think we can all also agree that these societal developments make the prospect of flowery cardboard and candy sentiments delivered to offices and kindergarten cubbies around the world more complicated this year than it has been a while. Just how are we supposed to make valentines this Valentine's? If any community could save this holiday this year it's y'all. And if we can force Photoshop Phriday to update in the process all the better...

I'm bitter I couldn't reboot a decade-old photoshop contest for internet nerds. I don't know if that's volcel or incel but it definitely doesn't add up to holiday coitus. Happy Valentine's Day I guess. At least St. Patrick gets me...
