There will be no terrible voice acting, as voice acting will be limited to a foley artist huffing helium and gargling Mountain Dew to simulate a rapidly deflating acid mole rat. There will be no terrible writing excepting the LP chronicling goon endeavors to build a giant wooden phallus that towers over the rolling hills of West Virginia. Surrounding it, a band of Jet-addled, leather daddy styled raiders exploiting emotes to gesture lewdly as the feral ghouls descend.

Todd wants people to break the game? The one thing you can count on is Bethesda games breaking themselves without player input.

The latest example I stumbled upon was the Workshop menu in Fallout 4. You know how it lags for a few seconds when you press the key? And it gets worse the more settlement mods you pile on? That's because every time you press that key, the game checks every single item record to see if it can be placed in your settlement, even the ones that wouldn't make sense. It does so all over again for each submenu and doesn't cache the results.

A modder fixed it last week.

SplitSoul

Yeah, this was what I was talking about :

quote:

It boils down to the game using some incredibly inefficient code to figure out what objects you can build in workshop mode. Whenever you start Workshop mode, the game evaluates the conditions on every single constructible object in the game to find out if they belong in the workshop - this includes even non-workshop items like weapon mods and chems. And it does that not just once (!), but repeats this loop for each and every workshop submenu you have!

If you install a mod that adds two new submenus to your workshop, one would reasonably expect to incur just a small overhead of a couple of additional checks. Instead, in reality, this causes two more loops through every single craftable object in the game.

As you install more mods that add any kind of craftable object to the game, entering the workshop will inevitably and perhaps noticeably slow down, even if these objects have nothing to do with the workshop.

And to make it all worse, every time you exit the workshop, the game tears down all this data it worked so hard to build and starts over!

Like that example a few pages ago (menus checked for buildiables). Is unoptimized yes, but work ok for the stock game. It somewhat break with mods, but the shipped game was fine.

Not really. There's also the massive slowdowns around Boston as the game is needlessly rendering a ton of poo poo you can't even see. Also had to be fixed by a modder.

I'll give them that it's their most stable game to date, but that isn't really saying much, and it's evened out by breaking a lot of mods every time they add a new paid mod to the in-game store, some of which need their own unofficial third-party patches.

Their QA managed to let an FNV release bug slip through that deleted your cloud savegames.

Start learning to manage your stash and carry weight early on, because it will add up quicker than you're expecting early on and you don't have the benefit of unlimited containers. Myself personally, i create bulk for everything over 100 units of the bulkable crafting materials and save around 200 of each material you can't bulk. When I accumulate 10 bulk of materials I start vendoring them. I'm also a bit of an extreme case because I pick up literally every weapon dropped and scrap them with the scrapper perk. If you want to follow this path, start learning where to find crafting tables so you can break things down to component junk. Also, the Pack Rat perk is worth a ton of carry weight if you play this way.

Thanks. I was already doing some of this when I realized I needed to scrap a lot to get my Sims on. Thankfully there seem to be a lot of crafting tables around, so I can extend my trips by breaking poo poo down every once in a while.

Went shopping for plans and was invited into some random whale's enormous house and nested shelters that he had, I would soon discover, meticulously crafted into a mannequin whorehouse and sex dungeon, complete with a chalkboard price list, a TV helpfully labelled "PORN" and countless rooms with scenes like this:

I cannot imagine how many hours and how much money he must have put into this, the place was absolutely huge and he seemingly owned every piece of furniture ever released. I first began questioning my choices when I was led into a basement club and a sign said "ADULT XXX". We descended through multiple stories of increasingly demented wank fodder as he kept doing the point and laugh emote. My journey ended at something he'd labelled "SUCK FLY", a wall-mounted bloatfly head, upon which I demonstratively bolted for the exit. I was simply aghast at how much effort this person put into arranging his fuckdolls, I wish I'd taken more screenshots.

How do I make my turrets stop wrecking my camp by firing on friendly merchants?

SplitSoul
Dec 31, 2000

Sensenmann posted:

All turrets can glitch out like this. There is one during Rad Rumble that will do the same and fire on everyone without doing any damage.

Solution is to just not build any turrets in camps. Ranged enemies stay outside their range anyways, plinking away at your camp, and melee enemies get hit like 1 out of 20 shots. Any defense items in your camp will attract more mobs, so having none will severely decrease camp attacks. They also eat a lot of budget.

They do it consistently, problem is they damage my poo poo with misses instead of the invincible traders. Also the mobs frequently spawn inside the structures.

Didn't know defenses made it more likely, guess I'll get rid of them.
