I'm trying to build up my PS chops to the point where I can put together things like these scenes: myself and not buy PSDs. I'm slowly building an understanding of frame animation, layer styles and smart objects, but 3D and timelines are still real hard. Still can't figure out how to make an actual backdrop and not just a flat surface for the background of this guy. The thing I'm most proud of thus far: I made a frame by frame PSD of the first part of Cash Bone. I'm hopefully having an artist draw me some bones soon. I'll probably redo the second half with more artistic license. Here's some end products of that PSD: Next I'm trying something quite ambitious. I'm going to try to edit out the text from this clip and replace it with "It's easy". I've got a servicable layer style and font currently, but both have room for improvement for sure. Where I'm at: https://imgur.com/7SQam2x Where I need to go: https://imgur.com/Z4Ypd2k I would love tips, critiques, suggestions for future projects and to see what y'all working on. Next on the docket?: Make something like these glitchy screens Something resembling the Classy Game Covers of yore. Your requests! |

I should have said in OP that I can't draw, in case it wasn't obvious. I had a good time getting set up with guides and all that jazz, but once I had to decide what to put in it got real hard.

Thank you. I made a new version with a 3D backdrop, but it's not rendering right. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-dWbC60Hic I don't like all them lines all over the background. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-dWbC60Hic So I tried to make that 3D scene, got a cyclorama scene from Adobe, couldn't get the shadows to look right, turns out I wasn't rendering to final ray traced. I started a 3D final ray trace and now I'm pretty sure Photoshop is going to be rendering this for days. After 2 hours: |

I did the thing I thought I had to do and it worked: I was trying to do a different thing where I delayed the start of the gifs, but by moving them on the timeline they are totally not visible before they start. I want them to hang on frame 1 and then start. |

I know you're focused on photoshop right now, but if you find yourself wanting to do a lot of things like that spinning 3d logo, have you considered learning blender? it's got a bit of a learning curve and it might be a distraction to try to learn two different tools at once. but blender has a really impressive feature set, and it's free. it's not necessarily the right tool for every task of course, but it has some fairly sophisticated animation capabilities (among many other things).

3D seems like, really hard. I just wanted to kick the tires a little bit. Running a ray trace draft now. I can actually almost see the progress bar move! Edit: It's bad! Papa Was A Video Toaster fucked around with this message at 00:15 on Feb 23, 2018 |

Does anyone know a way to kludge together animating scaling a mask in Photoshop? I've tried making a layer mask and creating a clipping mask to an underlying layer in the shape I want, both vector and raster. Edit: Figured it out. Embedded the mask in the smart object. Scale object, scale the mask. Papa Was A Video Toaster fucked around with this message at 06:10 on Feb 24, 2018 |

How do I change/limit the colour space non destructively? To get this effect I changed all the Hue values to 140 (firmly in green) in the GIF compressor (Save for Web in PS). Edit: More accurate colours: Papa Was A Video Toaster fucked around with this message at 20:04 on Feb 25, 2018 |

https://tvsveryown.deviantart.com/art/Retro-Console-Color-Tables-732760233 I used that Wikipedia article to make color tables. Making Gameboy .gifs gonna be a breeze now. I tried saving some of the GBC ones with 6 or 8 colors, but I couldn't tell PS that only the first 4 were primary, so I'll have to go back and redo those. (They are not included in this pack.)
