I'm getting Invention of Lying or (coincidentally) Liar Liar vibes from this where the premise is amazing but the movie will push that aside for a by-the-numbers romcom. Also how much does this movie cost? Beatles licensing can't be cheap.

It looks okay! Will Smith looks much better than expected. I think him being blue all the time would make him stand out much more when he's around real actors instead of a cartoon. His comedic timing was pretty good also.

Jafar doesn't look or sound menacing enough, and I expected Will Smith to be the problem based on the teasers. I'm going to take my seven year old step-daughter to this and probably have a good time, even though I generally think the live action adaptations are heartless.

The downside of watching movie trailers on YouTube is that my feed is constantly full of those MovieTrailerClips and other channels that put up a grainy thumbnail with a re-host of the trailer, or call it a new trailer but it's actually all the teaser trailers glued together into one video, or put a spoiler in the thumbnail/title. Or worst of all, if there's leaked footage, put THAT up and call it a trailer. I've tried to hide them but it's no use.

Speaking of, could there be like a rule that we don't post trailers from the aggregate channels? I actively seek out the trailers uploaded by the original studio channels themselves because these other channels seem to be click-baity leeches that either add watermarks or intros or post like a 30-second new clip on top of all of the previous trailers to make it seem like there's a new 4+ minute video.

Do they even have a deal with the studios? Why do average people get immediate copyright strikes and these channels don't?

Wondering this as well. I guess the studios feel it's free advertising and it's not like they care about ad revenue from trailers when they're making tens of millions on the films through profits and tax loopholes, so they leave it alone? I hate them because they're the first place I usually see new trailers thanks to YouTube's algorithms, and if I watch any movie trailers I get the awful grainy thumbnail misleading clickbaity videos recommended to me everywhere.

I am enjoying the irony of the lifecycle superhero movies have had. People wanted superhero movies, so they got them. Then they wanted good ones, got those too. They wanted to see their heroes team up and fight each other, then that happened. Then people started complaining that they were tired of them, and why can't studios try something different? "No, not like that."

It's weird that "Young adult horror stories from the 90's rebooted as a movie where the stories are real and trying to kill kids" is a movie genre now. Goosebumps (which was actually entertaining), Scary Stories (which sucked except for the monster designs), and now Are You Afraid of the Dark, which looks like it's aimed toward the same age group as the show but not the adults who have the nostalgia for it. Which might be for the best.

So the trailer didn't do much for me at all. It's spectacularly edited, but if you go on Netflix right now there's a few dozen movies with the basic premise of a monster terrorizing an Anywhere, USA style town. And usually it's a child or children as main characters with skeptical but cautious adults along for the ride and a tough but friendly town sheriff. Hell that's basically the premise of Stranger Things season 1, and we all know how that already took massive influence from other stories like it, so this is nothing new. But after reading that short story, I really want to see the movie, because holy poo poo it is a great story.

Going out and saying it'll probably be at least decent. I'm not thrilled on them moving it to Anywhere, USA and starring a bunch of kids, because the hostility of New York was important to the movie's aesthetic and this would be a very different script if Stranger Things Fever wasn't at an all-time high. But it looks fun despite all that. Me in the 90s would be pumped for this movie, so I can't be too cynical.
