 God I miss how black and white, mustache-twirlingly evil and monstrous old cartoon villains were. Seriously Zeon is pretty much anime space nazis in regards to how guilty you feel about killing them, and it is fantastic.

 Also love how the direct contact communications work, simply because this is actually a thing that happens in universe. None of the more common nonsense of shouting at each other over open comms.
