What are the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and/or Canadian Championship? These two competitions are the tournaments to determine the best club, regardless of level of play, in their respective country. What this really means is any team, regardless of how good they are, can win a trophy. What's so important about these competitions? Other than the trophy, the winners of these competitions get access to the CONCACAF Champions League, where they will proceed to lose to a Mexican team in depressing fashion. Who will be 2019's Toronto and lose the Final to Chivas on PKs? Well, it could be one of these teams! Who gets to play? All professional teams are eligible for the competitions unless they are a USL reserve squad (I'm looking at you, los Dos); amateur and semi-pro teams must qualify to make the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. For the first time ever, League1 Ontario and the PLSQ, Canada's third-level leagues, will see representation in the Canadian Championship in the form of their respective champions. How do the competitions work? Canada: 6 teams USA: 94 teams Canada: Home-and-home with away goals rule USA: Knockout Canada: First qualifying round (Oakville vs. Blainville) Second qualifying round (Ottawa vs. qualifier) Semi-finals (Qualifier vs. Toronto, Montreal vs. Vancouver) Finals USA: Play-In Round (NASL corpses and NPSL teams near them enter) First Round (Amateur and semi-pro teams enter) Second Round (USL teams enter) Third Round Fourth Round (MLS teams enter) Four Rounds afterwards The U.S. Open Cup is usually bracketed by geography, but the Fourth Round and Round of 16 will have draws to determine fixtures. Are these games televised? Canada: Yes, on TSN and RDS USA: Not really. Some matches will probably be streamed online, and the final will be on ESPN2 (probably). Other than that, it's the discretion of When does this start? The U.S. Open Cup starts with three play-in matches on May 6th, with the First Round Proper beginning two days later. The Canadian Championship begins on June 6 and ends August 15th. Is there really going to be FC Miami vs. Miami FC? If you count FC Miami City vs. Miami FC 2, then yes we've run out of ideas.

Went to the DCFC game; had a great time despite not being able to get beer at the end of regulation Pissed that their round 2 matchup is against 2017 semi finalist FC Cincinnati. I was hoping we’d get to make a run this year and maybe play an MLS team, but FC Cinci will savage DCFC.

They're playing in a tiny stadium next door to their usual very large stadium, so there's not all that many tickets to be set aside in the first place. It does suck for Detroit though, they brought a pretty good group down to Louisville in 2016. Holding out hope that they have the grit to avert the dumbest timeline where we have to play Cincinnati twice in four days.

I was at the DCFC/Bucks match as well. PKs seem to be the trend, as I belive four of their five Open Cup matches have gone to PKs. It's a bit tiresome to have to play the Bucks in three of those, but I suppose it's a nice early season barometer to play one of the better amateur teams in the country. I'm also puzzled as to how there aren't more FCC season ticket holders who aren't also pissed at their own club, seeing as they're playing at a field that fits like, a fifth of their ST holders as it is. Having to enter a ticket lottery for one of twenty eight tickets is absurd and makes everyone involved look silly. gtkor posted:Generally from what I can see on twitter, it is more fun at the moment to have a go at the DCFC supporters. I have seen other explanations about it being midweek, but I would have thought they would get a pretty good turn out either way. I mean, ultimately I can kinda understand the business decision behind it. We drew 60% of the crowd we'd had for prior friendlies because it was mid-week and weather was threatening, and I'm guessing FCC's FO wasn't interested in running Nippert as when they had to make the call, it probably seemed likely they would be playing a team that likely didn't have many fans of their own or that anyone would've known/cared about. I bet if the Bucks had won, this wouldn't have been news in the slightest. sleepwalkers fucked around with this message at 15:10 on May 11, 2018 |

It is weird to me that more people aren't making an issue of it, I would have gone to Nippert, but didn't really have much of a chance to get a ticket before they sold out at the smaller venue.

Managed to get my grubby paws on a ticket to the FCC/DCFC match via a DCFC supporter who couldn't make it. Looking forward to making a bunch of noise in our tiny block and half looking forward to having a heart attack watching the match itself. Still in the market for a good bar in Cincinatti, though...

After that was done, if you wanted to get out of OTR, you could probably start heading towards the bars closer to the stadium to make it for the walk and all that.

Las Vegas Lights put away FC Tucson 4-2, but came real close to screwing it up in the second half. As is tradition, there were at least two yellow cards for LVL, and as usual the crowd hurled pu* chants during goal kicks. I think their next opponent is "FC Golden State Force", a PDL team out of Whittier, California.
